UPDATE: By now, anyone who wants to vote probably has, and the majority is clearly 'no images', so we've added the following to the rules thread
Out of respect for users who are at work or on mobile devices, please use links to images instead of posting .gifs, .jpgs or other image files into the shoutbox, regardless of whether the images would otherwise be 'safe for public consumption'.
Should pictures and gifs be banned from shoutbox, so that it is only vertically scrolling text. Some of us view TIF and shoutbox while at work and would prefer that an image not randomly pop up, letting our coworkers know that we are not actually working. Let us know what you think. We are listening...  Edited to add: We're looking at adding something along the lines of the following to our 'policies' page:

Although we could just go with sarapen's idea about executing people.

I will respect the consensus, but my preference has always been that people share images/gifs with a link and not directly into the box. The people with this preference have been pretty clear and consistent about this making the site more useable during the day. The people who don't want the ban have never given a reason beyond, "it's not against the rules, so whatever losers, I do what I want!"

Yes and unlike the others, if they are not banned I will NOT respect the consensus and even though I don't know how to do it, I will immediately start posting nothing but pictures and gifs of questionable/NSFW material until I am either fired, banned, or both.

I had a long, contemplative post full of questions about liberty and the rule of law, the rights of the group vs the rights of the individual, Free Speech vs Shitposting, and other important concepts that have been debated throughout history, but I hit a wrong button and it all got erased.

I'm mildly curious Multiple users asked us to change the forum rules because they can avoid visiting any of the image heavy threads while at work, but don't want to have to worry about things in the shoutbox, so we put it to a vote. It's not any single thing, but a slow accumulation. |
