Has anyone here heard of the author Kim Newman?
I started reading his Anno Dracula series in 2016 and over the course of 4 months read all the ones available at the time.
I've also read a couple of short story collections and the standalone novel An English Ghost Story, all of which I liked as well.
He's fast become basically my favorite author.

I can picture him from rare appearances on British TV, but for a while there I would get him confused with Kim Stanley Robinson. Fact is, I haven't read word one by either of them.

I liked the first book the most. Picking out the cameos from various media was fun. Sean Connery's character from The Man Who Would Be King is there, as well as Lestat from Anne Rice's books, and a bunch of others I can't remember offhand since it's been years since I've read the book. Much later you get another Sean Connery character in the person of James Bond. Also Sherlock Holmes apparently died in a gulag run by vampires before the series even started.
My enthusiasm for the series has kind of waned, though. I've had the Apocalypse Now novel on the wish list of my library for 2 years now and still haven't gotten around to borrowing it. I think the last book in the series I read was the one about Dracula's wedding in the early 60s. Maybe it's the modern setting. I mostly liked the series, though.

There's definitely something special about the first book but I'm very impressed with how consistent the quality is for all the books, including the newest one, considering Newman took an over ten year break from the series.
