RIP Mira Furlan of Babylon 5 fame. Notification from J. Michael Straczynski's FB page:
She was also very memorable on LOST. A real shame.

Bruce Kirby, character actor and Colombo recurring actor (as several different characters, most often Sergeant George Kramer). He was also the father of the late Bruno Kirby.

I can never, ever express just how much I love the Mary Tyler Moore show and Leachman was such a pivotal part of that. Very sad indeed.

I guess these people aren't really regular-person famous but they're famous to me - four medieval historians have died this month: Ronnie Ellenblum, Giles Constable, Jean Richard, and Michael Clanchy.

We should do a memorial viewing of "Wild in the Streets" and in his honor sometime. It's one of the seminal "Hippie Horror\Establishment Nightmare" exploitation movies of the late 60's. Cheesy AF, and unintentionally a hoot as well. "It's only Tiger's Milk".

He was supposed to have done some sort of standup/spoken word thing at my university that I was going to go to (I think it was free for students or super cheap) but he cancelled at the last minute so I can neither confirm nor deny that he was legitimately funny during his early 2000s standup set.

RIP Michael "Double K" Turner of underground hip hop duo People Under the Stairs:
(Hadn't really thought about these guys in years and now I'm kinda bummed to see that they were still releasing albums as recently as 2019 and I haven't been paying attention)

Not new, but someone was talking on Twitter about Lux Interior passing away twelve years ago today. Always a good excuse to listen to the Cramps, but I can't seem to find the AV Club obituary, where one poster responded with "Who?" and was mocked so mercilessly they never returned, at least under the username "Bellona".

George Schultz. Secretary of state for seven years, worked hard among (and sometimes against) the hardliners to end the cold war, and did it all with a tiger tattooed on his ass.
I, for one, think that more of our political leaders should have tattoos on their asses. At the very least, it indicates the possibility of a sense of humor.

Mary Wilson, a Supreme; 76, unknown causes. Besides being a Supreme, she was also an advocate for musicians' rights and an overall fashion icon, publishing a book in 2019 (her fourth overall) on the Supremes and their gowns.

In David Foster Wallace's essay on the porn industry, Big Red Son, the first amendment defence comes up a lot, leading him to wonder what the founding fathers would've made of a film like Anal Virgins III.

Ben Franklin would have written a series of letters to young men about the virtues of the different films in the series along with recommendations on the best practices for viewing and storing the media.

The weirdest thing to come out of that was after he and Jerry Falwell agreed to do a joint speaking tour/debate series on the limitations of First Amendment protections. Having dinner together before their appearances, they actually became good friends and remained in contact until Falwell died.

Based on an earlier entry in Poor Richard's Almanack titled " A stiffy in time, saves sixty-and-nine"
