Rest in peace, Doris Day. She had a pretty good sitcom back in the 70's, but the only thing I actually remember about it is a scene where she and costar John Denher feel they are threatened in some way. Denher has a butter knife, and Doris at some points asks him if he is going to use it, and he says "Only if need be, only if need be."
Colonel Potter on MASH once told a story about falling in love with Doris Day upon seeing her at a USO show. He remembered "Nothing ever came of it, I never even got to speak to her." or something like that.
When Rock Hudson was very ill with AIDS, at the beginning of the epidemic, his last public appearance was on the first episode of a Doris Day cable show about people and their pets, since both loved dogs. She was a close enough friend, and he trusted her enough to appear with her, despite his illness and the fears and stigma and prejudices of the time regarding it.
R.I.P Doris Day, indeed.

Meanwhile my 25-year-old coworker thought Doris Day was just an imaginary person from We Didn't Start the Fire. (I should probably make sure she knows those are all real people, right?)

Well, except Peter Pan. Gah! I was too slow, I was trying to craft a joke about him and James Dean in consecutive lines. (One an icon of wild youth, destined to never grow old, the other one...)

For the second day in a row, someone I thought was already dead has died for real this time. Tim Conway dies at 85

That actually almost works.

Aw dude, Chris Reccardi died. He was an animator that played instrumental roles in stuff like Ren and Stimpy, Spongebob, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack etc. Here's his pilot for The Modifyers, a show that really should've been picked up:

Man, Leon Redbone was only 69? I thought he was about 60 back in the 70s!
"On The Tracks" was a favourite album for a very long time, with a great Chuck Jones cover.

Leon Redbone was weird and funny and a great singer and musician, and absolutely, totally unique, and the world is worse off without him.

And what of Lazarus? Robert Brown, who played Lazarus, is still around at age 92.

Yeah, I'm afraid so, in The Three Doctors. You can probably infer a fair amount from that title...

Paul Darrow, star of cult 1970's/80's sci-fi show Blakes 7 has gone. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-48501099Sad days indeed. He's been reprising his role in Blakes 7 for the past fifteen years or so on the Big Finish audios, where he (and the rest of the returning cast) have been simply phenomenal. It's little secret that Blakes 7 is my second-favourite sci-fi show (after Doctor Who, surprising no-one), and its blend of realism, cynicism, humour, realpolitik, and characters makes it a simply brilliant piece of science fiction. Produced on a budget of about £3.99. I know Blakes 7 isn't especially well-known outside of the UK - I think the DVD's are not even available in the U.S. - but it's a show that's vastly worth spending time discovering. If you're interested in dipping your toe in the water the Big Finish audios are a great place to start (they're some of the best work Big Finish has ever done, in fact). www.bigfinish.com/hubs/v/blake-s-7And my own write-up of the series, from this very forum tolerabilityindex.freeforums.net/thread/980/gateway-geekery-blakes-7
