James Chance, one of primary figures of the No Wave movement (Chance is arguably the dominant personality on the first side of the No New York compilation) and, while it’s the sort of musical scene that would have had a short (if influential) lifespan anyway Chance certainly had a persona that matched the sound.

It's annoying me how many outlets seem to be leading with "Hunger Games actor."

I have never seen the whole movie so I only know it by reputation, but I think a lot of boomer women’s love of MASH comes largely from Gould and Sutherland both being there and that short-circuiting every other critical impulse.

It's annoying me how many outlets seem to be leading with "Hunger Games actor." Should be ‘Infamous Don’t Look Now Sex Scene Actor’. I only recently learned the story of what happened to Don't Look Now's cinematographer as a result of that scene. During production, he passed out drunk at a party and woke up to Warren Beatty kicking him in the face. Beatty was a producer on the movie and had just found out about the sex scene having been shot and was furious. No doubt he was still infatuated with Julie Christie from McCabe and Mrs. Miller.

MASH may be the closest adaptation of a book ever put to film. It was the first film where Altman used overlapping / natural dialog and sound editing, giving it a documentary feel. There wasn't much like it at the time, and it's still rare. There's a grainy rip of the full movie on YouTube. I don't know if women particularly loved it, but Gould and Sutherland definitely didn't hurt. Easy on the eyes and almost effortlessly cool.

This hurts. I have enjoyed his music, his mystery novels, and his occasional TV appearances for decades. Richard Kinky "Big Dick" Friedman was one of a kind. R.I.P.

Mull was, according to Elvis Costello, the originator of “writing about music is like dancing about architecture.” He was also a pretty great painter.

Robert Towne, Oscar winning screenwriter for Chinatown. Also wrote plenty of other films including Shampoo, The Last Detail, and the first two Mission Impossible movies.

Although I generally 'boycott' Polanski, I have to make an exception for Chinatown, mostly out of respect for Towne. Such a bleak, gut punch of a movie. Last Detail is pretty great, too.

I had never heard of Faerie Tale Theatre before Ms. Goblin showed me this episode, a favorite of her childhood. It was quite good. I know she struggled with mental health later on in life but I hope she found peace by the end.

Richard Simmons, the day after his 76th birthday. No cause of death released, but he was found by his housekeeper at home. My high school best friend struggled with his weight for a long time. He tried some of Simmons' programs, and Simmons wrote encouraging personal notes to him on several occasions. Always seemed like a genuinely nice person. He removed himself from the public eye around a decade ago and wouldn't say why, but thankfully it seemed like the concerns he was being held against his will were untrue. I was just thinking "Waitaminute, isn't it late for DougDoug's annual charity stream?" and now am really saddened that Rosa, the world's coolest otter has passed at the ripe age of (nearly) 25. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_(sea_otter)
