James B. Sikking, 90. Had an illustrious character actor career, but the first thing I will always think of him in is this scene:

Jacoby Jones, 40. Maybe only famous here in Baltimore, but I will always remember him fondly for the "Mile-High Miracle."

On BlueSky, at least, there was a bad spate of people using Duvall’s death to talk about Kubrick, a lot of which has been debunked over and over again. I did see one behind-the-scenes clip from before they were going to shoot the axe-through-the-door scene. When Duvall goes behind the door she does a little “goodbye” with a cute little wave and laugh.
Kubrick took things seriously, of course, but it really drove home it was all pretend.
I only have seen a couple of episodes, but I think part of the specialness Fairy Tale Theater was that it emphasized the “pretend” part of acting—these are stories we make, not a world we enter into, which is something valuable but often lost given the emphasis on canons, immersive worldbuilding, etc. that’s spread across all media now.

Cheng Pei-Pei, 78. Absolute legend in the wuxia game. Probably best known to non-"All I watch is kung fu movies" freaks as the villainous Jade Fox in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

John Mayall, 90.
A big figure in the British Blues scene of the 60s, and beyond. His Bluesbreakers album with Eric Clapton was pretty seminal, and he also brought Peter Green and Mick Taylor to prominence.

Edna O’Brien, novelist, 93.
Damn, another one of my favourites gone. At her most unflinching she would have Cormac McCarthy looking over his shoulder.

Francine Pascal, creator of the Sweet Valley High book series, 92.
Are those books good? No. Did they burn themselves into my brain forever because they were soapy, pulpy nonsense featuring attractive Californian teenagers? Yes. And I'll always think of a lime-green Triumph as what all the cool girls drive thanks to Francine Pascal.

Have to admit this was a case where I thought he was already dead (must have been stories about his families fighting about the inheritance years before he shuffled the coil)

Dismiss Star Wars and claim a minor character in a Kubrick as the sum total of his career. Here, off the top of my head, The Lion King, Field of Dreams, Matewan, Bingo Long, Sneakers...
