Chipping in a bit late, but I liked Zapp's Voodoo Chips when I could get them. Charles Chips were pretty good 35-40 years ago. Their tins sure were greasy when you finished one. "Chippin' It!"

The seafaring people of Japan are masters of salt and this is the platonic ideal of potato chips.

CHEESE AND ONION Walkers has Worcestershire Sauce flavour and they're my favourite. you've got to try McCoy's cheddar and onion, real man crisps, I like to eat them ridge by ridge *drools* It just occurred to me no one's mentioned prawn cocktail, do Americans not have it? It's one of the staple flavours here.

We don't even get Walkers here in Canada, only at speciality stores - I also like their pickled onion flavour. And though I am a Canadian I've always hated ketchup flavoured chips.

The bar down the street has a bowl of free pretzels and frankly pretzels are starting to supersede chips in my estimation.

CHEESE AND ONION I thought it was a myth, or something only available in far off lands, when lo and behold I came across this at my local grocer:

Pastafarian - Limited time only! The packaging should be blue, but otherwise all above board! Have them with a citrusy drink.

Picking a favorite chip would be like picking a favorite child, if I had (or actually liked) children.
For basic right from the bag crunching, the cheap, generic Aldi store brand Clancy's BBQ chip is pretty good. They don't smother it in seasoned salt, like many brands do.
Ripple chips are fine for sour cream based dips. Salt and vinegar are a nice change of pace, and sometimes cheddar or sour cream and onion satisfy. O'Grady's Au Gratin was superb, but these apparently no longer exist.
We have the usual national brands around, your Lays and such, but generally I find them overpriced and too salty. When I was a kid we had actual local and regional brands, such as Kelly's from Decatur IL (The Chip with Zip!), Chesty's, and another I can't remember right now. Kelly's used to come with a baseball team button in each bag, and if you collected all the teams in the league, you could send them in and get a free baseball. I somewhere have a copy of the factory cooking specs for Kelly's chips.
Some of the current regional brands I see here and there seem to be Jay's MikeSells, and Uncle Ray's, sort of the Dr Bronner's of chips. Each bag features a short story about Uncle Ray's life. He was in the Navy, ya know.
Lately, I find myself eating more nachos with salsa and/or guacamole than tater chips and dips. YMMV

Yo, crew. I ventured to an Indian grocery last weekend for some fresh curry leaves. I found and purchased a 40g bag of Lay's India Magic Masala chips. They're worth seeking out: spicy, sweet, cumin-hit late in the flavour game. Yum!

I know the survey is "chip" and not "potato chip", but it almost feels like tortilla chips should be in a separate category.
At any rate, my favorite flavor isn't on there. Currently it's jalapeno and onion, which is sold by Pringles in Japan (though I haven't seen it around as often lately, so I fear they may be discontinued). A much fuller flavor than the standard jalapeno Pringles. There are also these yuzu and black pepper kettle chips that are only available in the fall (seasonal foods are a big thing here).

All dressed and barbecue are the same damn flavor I've heard All Dressed described as a combo of BBQ and Salt and Vinegar. It certainly has a different "tang", at least according to my taste buds, than BBQ.

Hadn't looked at this thread in a while, was surprised to see Plain in the number one spot. Realize I made an error in including it, cause plain isn't really a flavour beyond "fried potato" + salt.
