Neither of them understand human relationships, but only one can be the worst.

Lucas has to win based solely on Attack of the Clones. Dear God, that is so bad.

I'm torn between Michael Bay and Zack Snyder.

I'm torn between Michael Bay and Zack Snyder. Bay, maybe, but Snyder isn't even trying. Or isn't trying to do anything more than string together iconic moments, at least.

Cameron has his issues, but Kyle's love for Sarah Connor's photograph in T1, Ripley's (motherly) love for Newt in Aliens, and Tom Arnold's unrequited love for Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies should exclude him from this list.

Lucas just can't write love stories. We have Attack of the Clones for Exhibit A and for Exhibit B, we have Indiana Jones and Miriam's creepy backstory in Raiders of the Lost Ark. "I was a child!" "You knew what you were doing."

I'm torn between Michael Bay and Zack Snyder. That does sound like a pretty awful love triangle, but still a better love story than Attack of the Clones.

Cameron has his issues, but Kyle's love for Sarah Connor's photograph in T1, Ripley's (motherly) love for Newt in Aliens, and Tom Arnold's unrequited love for Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies should exclude him from this list. i've said that Cameron doesn't really write women as "WOMEN", he just writes them as *gasp* people - until he is required by some situation to think "oh this is a GIRL" OR how would a ~lady~ react?" and then it's all shit. Like - Sarah Connor's roommate, Ginger, skates perilously close to nothing but a sexpot to be set up as The Total Opposite Of Sarah because he's writing "overtly sexy girl" and nothing else. (And to be fair, all my Ginger-appreciation has come retroactively; when I first saw it (80s), my reaction was just "kinda slutty girl", which I am positive is what he was going for.) Rose in Titanic has her good aspects, but most of her awful ones are clearly Cameron thinking "now what if I was a teenaged girl mad at my mom and I met a cute boy?" It's like if he's not looking directly at a romantic subplot that he writes women just fine, and often even really great - obviously Ripley, also Vasquez, John's foster mom in T2, umm...what's her name in The Abyss (I don't remember enough about Avatar or True Lies to say anything), but as soon as eros comes into it - just the worst. And it's specifically the "unmarried people being attracted budding romance" type of subplot that is shit. He's not terrible at already-attached or married couples.
