I've got Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo fever like you wouldn't believe. Is it okay if I post some Final Fantasy 7 music in this thread? I am noticing a distinct lack of cowbell in these music videos. I was reliably informed that the only prescription for a fever is more cowbell.

Not really big on cinematic orchestral covers, especially when Final Fantasy VII's original soundtrack is so distinctive and memorable to begin with, but I suppose they do an alright enough job with it based on what I've heard through the demo. Not a complete hackjob like what they did with the FFX remaster

I've haven't downloaded the demo, and may not, but I watched my choice of FF streamer play the demo on YouTube, and it looked fun. Seems like you have a lot of options at any given moment in how to attack.
Though, I do now fear that the way they're making this game a full-length experience is just by making boss fights take forever. The Scorpion Sentinel looks neat and all, but that's way too long for such a repetitive fight. (Granted, my streamer may have been playing poorly.)

Is this demo on the Playstation shop for cheap as free or do I have to buy Brave Fencer Musashi to get a demo disc or something?

The big boss fight that caps off the demo is pretty dull and repetitive. Doesn't exactly bode well that even Final Fantasy XV had more enjoyable combat, but I wonder if it'll be somewhat mitigated by Classic Mode

Doesn't exactly bode well that even Final Fantasy XV had more enjoyable combat, but I wonder if it'll be somewhat mitigated by Classic Mode And elements that could be cool, like hiding behind the debris to avoid the big laser, are rendered lame by how programmatic they are. "Oh, some new debris just fell into the arena, he must be about to do the big laser." Like if you the player were responsible for managing the debris, or even positioning yourself so some of his other attacks knock the debris into the arena ... like, there could be something there. But when this fight is THIS long and THIS routine, before the end of the FIRST time playing it (or watching it), it felt like going through the motions.

The combat looks terrible. I haven't seen classic mode yet, but god do I hope it is much better. I do not like the staggered/pressured shit.
I'm going to play the demo just to see how it feels vs just watching it, but I don't have high expectations for the revamped combat.

Well, I once again find myself wildly out of step with the rest of Videogamebox, because I loved this. I played on classic mode and thought the combat felt great, and I didn't think the Guard Scorpion fight took too long at all. This is going to be a day 1 pickup for me.

Getting Badger from Breaking Bad to voice Wedge is an inspired casting choice

The demo is 7 gb? Goddamn.
Also, the Kotaku story about playing ff7r certainly led to some horrendously dumb comments. My favorite one was that people who are waiting to play the whole thing are dumb, because we could be dead in 4 years. Both a horrible comment, yet also true.

I played the demo. It is a mixed bag? Like, I want to relive FF7 with better graphics, but that's all I want. I don't need combat changes, or extra dialogue, or side quests. I just want a prettier FF7, and this is not really that.
I tried out classic at first, but it felt like autopilot. I switched to easy, because this is not a type of combat I remotely want to engage with. It feels like a stiffer and less fluid Kingdom Hearts game.
It is very pretty though, like unnaturally good graphics for this gen. Which is why their is so much extra dialogue and small scenes, it is just a loading screen*. Basically a better version of Mass Effect elevators.
Even after all that I still really want to play a FF7 remake. Even this one, it just sucks that it will only go through Midgar. Most of my best memories of that game are AFTER Midgar. I saw someone recently say that Midgar was most of disc 1, and that is just flat out not true. There is actually a shit ton inbetween Midgar and the end of disc 1. We won't be getting any of that for at least two years. It is just hard to separate that.
One last thing, out of all the changes they've made, they kept the stereotype part of Barrett's character. Turns out voice acting was the last thing Barrett actually needed.
*I skipped multiple cutscenes during the demo, because I saw them last night during Giant Bomb's unfinished. A short one only hit "loading" for a few seconds. A longer scene was noticeably stuck at "loading". Hopefully with the actual full release it won't be that bad, but I figure no one will actually skip scenes on the first go round. But there will likely be A LOT of dialogue scenes if this demo is anything to go off.
