I can't decide whether I like THIS set or the ISS more: These are both gorgeous, model-quality sets. I love them SO much!

A few weeks ago on a whim I bought the LEGO Speed Champions McLaren Senna set. (The small one, not the HUGE model version.) I really liked putting together such a small set with so much detail - even if much of it comes from stickers - so I ended up buying a bunch more of the Speed Champions sets over the past few weeks. Mrs B jokes that this is a GOOD thing, because my mid-life-crisis "buying a crazy-expensive sports car" only goes as far as buying toy versions!

I wish they made an entire line of detailed medieval buildings to match, like the Creator city buildings. My next planned sets are the small Creator Space Shuttle Transport, the White House and the Statue of Liberty (despite the flat-shield face that I'll probably replace).

Yeah, Mrs B got the Village set and we had it displayed on a shelf at our apartment with several of the other castle sets. I missed the windmill though, that one's neat!

Lego Maniacs I need your help. My kid got a set of assorted Lego guys. It's one of those educational sets where small children are supposed to learn about jobs or whatever so you got like sushi chefs, Tony Hawk, firefighters, drummers for new wave bands, and Big Business, but there are two figures I have absolutely no idea what they're supposed to be. My child asked me and I quote, "What are their deals?" So that is the question I pose to you fine folks this evening, what are their deals?

Me: "Oh, this should be easy!" *locates actual educational manual to accompany the set online* *set does not have a list of the jobs anywhere* Uh, well...the kid is probably holding the head of a Chinese dragon, and the woman...is a paper lantern...repairperson? Here, this is the best I can do: images.kaplanco.com/content/PreS_Minifiginstructions.pdf

Like literally every other figure in the set is blatantly obvious what job/role they're supposed to be but these two? No clue.

There's an amazing-looking Daily Bugle set that just got announced (and is releasing extremely soon - VIP Access 5/26, general access 6/1) that I"m apparently obliged to get:

Have any of you been to Legoland? The 'world's largest legoland' is opening sometime this summer, less than half an hour from my apartment. I'll probably check it out this summer, assuming it's opened by then, and then maybe get season tickets? It looks like all the trees are made of lego, so if it's more kid-oriented, I may not, but if there's enough outdoorsy / festival type stuff to do that makes it worth evening visits, we probably will.

It probably depends. The rides at the one in Florida are mostly kiddy. There are some wonderful gardens there, though the Florida one is built on the ruins of Cypress Gardens and I think the gardens are from that. It's interesting if you like Lego - we've been several times - and there's plenty of theme park styled stuff. But without the Lego connection - especially miniland - I don't think we'd have been as many times as we have.

Legoland California was kind of depressing. The rides all had two hour waits (in November), and were basically standard amusement park rides with a LEGO theme stuck on top of them. The built models were cool to look at, but overall it was NOT worth the price of admission. That's saying a lot coming from me.

That Sandman with tornado base! And Blade! And Punisher! AND FIRESTAR! (I wish they had Iceman to go with her and Spidey..I loved watching him make his ice-slides in the cartoon.)

I'll second ABz B👹anaz review. At my last job, I actually did a little work with Legoland Japan and was gifted with some tickets for a park preview before it officially opened. It was alright. Everything simply had a lego theme, which actually got old faster than you think. It was like being in a big toy store. Perhaps the most disappointing thing was that the lego sets for sale were fairly limited and the prices weren't actually any better than a toy store. Apparently, this is because the operator of the parks is actually not connected to Lego. In other lego news, they are looking for a master builder for the Tokyo Lego Discovery Center. I was seriously considering applying until I figured I would probably have to work with kids and I've heard they make you submit some custom lego project of your own. Can't I just be paid to play with Lego at home?

Can't I just be paid to play with Lego at home? This changed relatively recently - Lego bought out Merlin (who owned the parks) and owns Legoland again. I don't know how much it's changed the parks, though; it may not have had time to filter down.

Gotten into Technic and just finished the McLaren build. It took forever but I was happy with the cost to time use ratio. The smaller cars are cheap but I usually finish in like an hour. This took several evenings.
Oh, and word on the street is that we are finally getting an MCU Minifigure series! I am seriously excited if this is true. I didn't care much for the DC series, mainly because they focused on such weird and random characters. The Marvel series sounds like it will have characters from the recent small-screen shows and movies like a Scarlet Witch in the new costume or Sam Wilson's Cap. I'm going to deck out my desk with Sam and Bucky once these come out.

This website must have been loaded recently because I was looking online a few days and it was still only speculation with the list of characters leaked. These all look pretty good, but I can't stand Marvel Zombies so I'll pass on the zombie Cap. I like how Bucky gets a shield included in his set along with some knives. I feel like more so than DC, and this is perhaps why DC hasn't done as well in the nerd culture wars, Marvel has this huge bench of pretty cool characters that a toymaker(or filmmaker) could dig into. So they could easily make more of these, hopefully with some X-men or second stringers like Squirrel Girl. Star Wars is similar in that it is this universe is full of fun background characters so if you opened up a Star Wars set and got some random Tusken Raider or bar patron or something you wouldn't be disappointed. Fingers crossed for both more Marvel and Star Wars mini figure sets.

Me : I want a Lego pirate ship Mom also me : We have a Lego pirate ship at home The pirate ship at home :
I'm actually pretty happy with this. As a kid I would always end up picking a minifig and a small vehicle to play with and building this with the bits and bobs lying around really brought me back.

I made the LEGO Bonsai, cherry tree* edition. It used a lot of fairly regular pieces in new and interesting ways.
* it also comes with green leaves, which can be built and changed quickly, but I bought it for the cherry tree leaves. Even if they're frogs.
