After extensive consultation* and an overwhelming response**, I figured I'd create this thread, since a bunch of us are Lego fans, and it gives us somewhere to talk about it. During the Purgatory times, I've been doing a bunch of sets - my wife had gotten me the James Bond Aston Martin and I finally put it together, and I've ordered the Boba Fett helmet (expecting it tomorrow), and I've dug into my backlog and built a bunch of smaller sets. But the big project - something I've wanted to do for a while - is Brick Vault's TIE Bomber, which I bought the instruction for a couple of weeks back, and have been gradually getting the pieces together for. I've ever done anything quite like this - either I build a set, which has all the pieces, or do something on my own, where I just deal with what I have onhand. And I had most of the pieces for it, but I'm doing a mix of ordering and substitutions, and I'll probably place a Bricklink order to finish up everything I still need. Weirdly, 1x12 plates are hard to find, but they can be subbed out for the most part. Anyway, I thought people might want a place to discuss Lego. *Asking a question on the random thought thread ** One dude (Thanks Hachiman!)

That TIE bomber build is really cool. There's a few other TIE variants like the Defender that I have been looking for online. I kind of missed the boat on the Star Wars sets that I really wanted since I wasn't quite at the right age or place in life. Like, I felt that I was too old to be buying legos (wrong in hindsight) and my daughter was too young for any big sets. I'm not really feeling any of the new designs from the Disney movies. Lucas' design team had a better eye for what looked good. I mean, Ren's TIE fighter looks like garbage. But now that we already have a pretty big collection and it only will ever get bigger, I have a little more freedom to get a set I like every now and again.
I've actually been on a big boats that float kick for the last year. All the kids love bathtime and lego, so its an obvious choice. Its actually been annoying to see that many of the models advertised as floating can barely float though. How do you make a barely buoyant plastic shell, Lego?

E-wing would be cool! Thinking about the Z-95 Headhunter based on the X-Wing parts rather than the official set. The Inquisitor's Tie as well would be a cool build.

That TIE Fighter is very cool looking! I'd love to see how that turns out.
I've built several of the small Star Wars sets, and those were pretty fun. The only major Star Wars set I bought was the Millennium Falcon. Oh my goodness, that was worth every penny. It is AWESOME. It was so delightful to build it, to watch it take shape, to realize all the detail. Oh, definitely one of the most fun LEGO sets I've ever had.
I'd love the full Harry Potter Hogwarts castle, but I definitely can't blow $400 on a LEGO set.
Otherwise, I gave all my LEGO pieces to my niece a couple years ago. She loves them. She builds houses for her dolls. She built a race track once for her matchbox cars. I'm really happy that she gets so much fun out of them.

For anyone considering getting any of the Brick Vault Instructions, they're having a 20% off sale today for May the Fourth. I picked up the Defender and the E-Wing. The E-Wing actually comes with designs for three different color schemes plus a stand.

Don't think I have the money to get all the parts though, now that I gave all my bricks to my niece. Grrrr.

Anyone else hunt for used lego in thrift shops and second-hand stores? They do occasionally end up there and its always a thrill to find something considering the resale value of some sets can be so high these days.

I would genuinely love them to do a minifigure set based off of Sesame Street characters. I would easily buy all of them.

I really only want Lego to do mini-figs and then just have random block assortments to build whatever. My daughter just wants the random mini-figs to play with but can't be assed to build the actual things you're "supposed" to build with the fancy sets you have to buy to get a Lego Little Mermaid figure, preferring to just build random structures with those "Here's a bin shaped like a Lego with a bunch of primary color Legos inside it" Legos. I think I'm probably in the minority though since Lego has gotten more and more elaborate and set based as the years have gone by.

You can buy just the figures you want there (and I can help you figure out how Bricklink works if you need it), and then buy the big classic brick collections if those are the pieces you prefer.

Luckily, it's "only" $550. I'd love to get it but I don't know what the hell I'd do with that monstrosity.

I also could use other minifigures and pretend that they're captured time travelers. "Oh no, Billy the Kid, how did we and this Stormtrooper end up in ancient Rome?" "I don't know, Firefighter guy! We'll have to figure it out after teaming up with this Lego Friend Stephanie and winning our freedom!"

I think I mentioned years ago on this very forum that in 1999 I was in Rome and walking past the Colosseum when a dude in a gladiator outfit mocked me for my Batman T-shirt: "Ehi, Bat Man, dov'è Robin? Ho ho ho!", which are strong words coming from a dude in a gladiator outfit. So I would probably have Lego Batman hang around the place, is what I'm saying.

Lego needs to put out some new boats that float at a reasonable size and price tag. The really small one doesn't float well at all and the model that comes with the fishing boats is better, but also a little on the small side. The annoying thing is the only other ones they seemingly put out are the gigantic tankers. My kids like taking their lego to the bath tub but I'm not shelling out for one of those gigantic sets just for it to be a bath toy. They need to put out something mid-sized like a nice yacht or another mid-size science vessel. C'mon Lego, help me part with my money!

I got the McClaren Senna from the "Speed Champions" series for my birthday. It was set #75892. I ended up putting it together with the oldest. It was a fun build with a sharp design and even had a neat little wrench tool for the driver that was actually functional for prying and dissembling some pieces. I ended up putting it on my desk in a little case. I don't think I will be taking it apart for awhile because it was an absolute pain to put together.

I know they've had firefighting boats in the past- I think this one was the one I had growing up (Also listed for less here, though that one is less clear on the completeness of the set.) The new one you linked appears to be the police's special shark unit, though it is not immediately clear if that means the unit that apprehends sharks or the unit that works with sharks to apprehend bank robbers or something. Further inspection leads me to guess the latter.

How did I miss this thread before? I could obviously talk about this subject for hours as I still have a very large collection of LEGO sets and parts.
I keep trying to sell my 7-8 year old Friends sets that I bought as an investment and/or future gifts for BGirl. (She has some Friends, but much more prefers the Jurassic Park/World themed dinosaur sets!)
That Sesame Street one is beautiful and I would love to own it, but probably won't. The higher priced sets are affordable to us now, but I mostly stick to getting smaller ones for me and slightly larger ones for BGirl.

Yeah, this one is on my radar. I kind of wanted something a teeny bit bigger, but its hard to argue with the price. I wouldn't get smaller than this one though because the smallest boat that they advertise as buoyant is not really buoyant at all. I had that hull that they reused for the police boat when I was a kid and that thing is unsinkable. Unfortunately, it has since been claimed by other family members.
