The relevant facts:
I have an iPhone SE (2020 - the new one) My husband has a Samsung Galaxy S9
I bought a small portable bluetooth speaker last month - specifically the Sony SBS-X12 if anyone's curious. It works great. BUT.
When I first opened it, I paired it with my phone - easy peasy, plays great, no problems. Last week my husband tried to pair his phone with it as well, and couldn't find it on his list. He gave up then, but tried again today - this time, I told my phone to "forget" the speaker, it came up on his list no problem and he paired it and played on it.
Except now I can't re-pair my phone; I suspect I'll need to have my husband "forget" the speaker in order to get it to work. (I actually wonder if it will work tomorrow when he's at the office and his phone is not in range.)
It's not the end of the world or anything, but it is annoying to have to un-pair and re-pair the speaker every time the other person wants to use it.
So the question is, is there any way around this? Is this a common thing with bluetooth speakers/accessories? Why is technology so great and so stupid all at once?

Update: TWBE is in the office today and my phone still won't recognize it/pair, so .... this is dumb.

I use my bluetooth headphones with my tablet and notebook. Usually that isn't a problem, I can even relatively easy switch devices while using the headphones.
About every two weeks or so one of the two will stop recognizing the headphones though. Only solution there I found is, as you did, remove it from the bluetooth list and start a new search AND putting the headphones back into search mode after turning them completely off.
In your case I think there could also be an Apple/Samsung issue, like both going "Ha I have this device connected now, the competition can't see it anymore due to this weird software trick".

I also have problems with my fitbit notifications sometimes, but I figured that was a fitbit issue; I don't pair it with anything else. I did kinda wonder if there was some sort of dueling phone brand thing going on. I haven't seen if my iPad recognizes the speaker. I did check, and you're SUPPOSED to be able to pair multiple devices, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a portable bluetooth speaker that I keep in my car. When it gets too warm, it won't pair anymore. I have to wait for it to cool off. This probably won't help with your problem, but you created this thread, and this seemed like the place to mention it.

Good news but also I feel a little dumb now: Figured out how to pair both of our phones at once. The instruction sheet was unclear, but the website helped -- had to hold the power button down to put it in "pairing mode".
