I found Haribo Ginger Lemon gummis at an Asian food market. I've never seem them before. The usual (fairly stiff) Haribo texture, frosted with sour sugar, but much more gingery than I expected. 7/10.

I'm gonna say that soda is a candy-like object thus allowing a post here. Had an Antarctica soda last weekend. It's been yonks since I found the Brazilian staple in a shop. The cost was exorbitant, but the uniqueness of its flavour made the purchase worthwhile. Having the chemical dryness that briefly parches the throat at first sip or gulp (the kind of which you get in a quality grape soda), this guarana soda is a clear pour with a light yellowish tint.
I also received the treat of Inca Kola. It pours a vitamin-piss yellow and tastes like cheap bubblegum with the familiar overtones of a B-vitamin boost commonly experienced in original flavour energy drinks. I haven't enjoyed it yet, but my memory of it does not diminish lo these years past since I had regular access to it.

Mixing it up with snack/fast food talk.
Heggie's Pizza is one of the few frozen pizza brands with the wisdom to recognize that "pizza" and "frozen pizza" are two fundamentally different foodstuffs. It doesn't try to ape "delivery style" pizza; it just tries to be the best a frozen pizza can be--in this case a cracker-thin midwestern style crust that doesn't sog up despite being topped with a shitload of cheese. 4/5
Wendy's has been serving top-tier chicken sandwiches since long before Popeye's instigating the Great Chicken Sandwich Wars. The new Italian Mozzarella Chicken sandwich is no exception. I mean, I kind of hate myself for loving it so much, because it must be a million calories--it's a puck of fried mozzarella atop a fried chicken breast slathered in marina sauce--but it's good. 5/5

When I was growing up, Hubig's pies were sort of the ubiquitous local packaged sweet snack - little fried pies, made the same way they were since the 1920s, cheap (under a dollar), and that kind of horrifically unhealthy/delicious that the best processed snack food is. While I didn't get them all that often, I did every so often, and it was something I'd pick up whenever I went back to New Orleans. I even had a friend pick some up occasionally for me when she visited her family in Baton Rouge.
In 2012, the factory burned down. Due to a variety of circumstances, it took forever to open a new one, and it didn't happen until earlier this year. Once it did, it only had a limited selection (just apple and lemon), and a decade of pent-up demand meant that they were hard to find even in the city. Ordering them online was completely out of the question.
It looks like the demand has died down a little, finally, because I was able to order a box (six of each) this morning, and it should be here by the end of the week.

Cherry Dr. Pepper is the closest thing to Cheerwine that I can obtain regularly. For that, I adore it and raise it above US-produced or Indonesian-produced Dr. Pepper.

I got some Chinese Lay's potato chips (I thought they were supposed to be Japanese, but all the test is in kanji with no kana at all, so I'm assuming it's Chinese and they're actually hanzi): Cucumber, Mexican Chicken Tomato, and Texas Grilled BBQ. The latter were the best, even if the name is a war crime in parts of Texas; the middle ones were OK but tasted mostly of tomato; the first ones tasted so strongly of cucumber it was simultaneously impressive and disgusting.

Lay's Bobo Chicken Flavour
Coming in a greyish-chartreuse bag with branding and pandas clouding out picture of the dish, this spicy surprise chip has the distilled lemongrass/medicine flavour one associates with the Sichuan peppercorns that get thrown into the hot pot at a restaurant. Opening the bag smells like cleaning fluid but the chips have a unique citrus pungency to aid the spice. The spice emulated from the Sichuan/Chengdu dish is admirable.

Jarritos Mexican Cola tastes good. It has a fizz that other Jarritos has. The flavour profile is diverse but has a grape soda shadow in the background I couldn't shake.

PepsiCo ditched Sierra Mist and replaced it with "Starry." It apparently is a genuine reformulation rather than a simple rebranding, but I've had Sierra Mist maybe twice in my life, so I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference. On its own, I'd rank it between Sprite and 7 Up--"crisper" than Sprite, but not as citrusy as 7 Up.

Lay's Tomato and Mushroom Hot Pot
The Asian groceries in greater Auckland have most all the flavours some may have seen profiled in YouTube's "What's this Wee-urd Foreign Shit?" content. Tomato and Mushroom Hot Pot Lay's start with a strong tomato sauce flavour. You know, the spoonful of crushed tomatoes from the can flavour. The mushroom hit is akin to the tang of a powdered mushroom soup base sampled without hydration.
I will return to these chips again. They are good.
Lay's Sichuan Spicy Hot Pot
Adequate but not as distinguished in its flavouring as the Bobo Chicken Flavour Lay's. Most of all, the dust isn't spicy enough. I've had hot pots that have made me weep with endorphins of pleasure. This bag of chips doesn't approach the ramp to that ecstatic ascendance.

Warheads' Blue Raspberry Soda
[For the metalheads] Like Cronos wailing "Power burning - Hell and Man. Raging Torment - Take my hand", this soda isn't gentle. As Mr. Lant once composed the whispers of his muse into a thunderous bass riff, the packaging asks you to "Chance the warhead. Win or Bust".[/end For the Metalheads}
I passed over the Green Apple and Watermelon, to settle on the known unknown of Blue Raspberry. There isn't much sour going on in this drink as in the candy/lolly. There is a powerful fizz and syrup ratio that probably becomes some sort of plasma in the drinker's mouth.

Time to get on the Town Bus! Town Bus is the snack making arm of GRB Dairy Foods, a large corporate entity in India. The Town Bus recently arrived at the NZ version of Grocery Outlet. I have tried the following: Butter Murukku - Without the coriander seed bite and focus on butter flavour, these crunch sticks of chickpea flour are a much smoother and quieter munch than other murukku. Masala Peanuts - Answering the question "Where have you been all my life?", these fried peanuts clog arteries and fill hearts with unoxygenated blood. They are also very, very tasty. Thattai - a rice and chickpea cracker. Fried. Some corn solids in the mix. Could be the new dipping cracker in the North American market if GRB makes a large play there. Ribbon Pakoda - another chickpea paste fried up. Nice undercurrent of spice in the loud, crunchy snack.

The Strawberries and Cream Doctor Pepper is quite good, at least in the zero sugar variety. It's just on the edge of being too sweet, though.

C ordered another box of exotic Kit Kats. Chocolate Orange: I loved these; my new favorites. Chocolate and citrus are already one of my favorite combinations, and these nail the balance--the chocolate is just bitter enough to provide an interesting contrast, and the orange is almost more floral than fruity. 5/5You may have figured this out by now, but they carry Chocolate Orange Kit Kats in the food section of Costplus World Market. Favorite items from Japanese grocery: senbei crackers - only the salty kind, the sugary ones from the Filipino grocery are a pass baumkuchenRoyal Milk Tea or similar - The cans are widely available at my local grocery stores, but the powdered mix is also quite nice. It reminds me of when I used to eat coffee-mate (sans coffee) as a child.

A new-to-me extruded corn meal snack, the reckoning.
Cheas Naks (Cheese Flavour)
In South Africa, these are popular. The puff is so firm that it feels like styrofoam when having a nosh. The cheese flavour isn't as prominent as any Cheeto. The cheetle left on one's hands isn't as excessive as its North American progenitor. No sniglet creation for this snack has value unless it deters those seeking new snack experiences. Not recommended.

Bells Are Ringing
This post is about Ding Dong. Not the Hostess snack, Ding Dongs.
Ding Dong is a Filipino-produced snack. It comes in a variety of compositions.
Ding Dong (Mixed Nuts) is what I believe to be the original. In my estimation, it is the best version of Ding Dong. It is made of up of salted: peanuts, toasted corn kernels, fava beans, cashews, and peas.
Ding Dong (Mixed Nuts - Hot & Spicy) - same nut mix, more added salt and spice. Not recommended unless you need more salt in your diet.
Ding Dong (Mixed Nuts - Real Garlic) - same nut mix, more added garlic salt. Recommended only if you need to remember you've snacked 2-3 hours after snacking.
Ding Dong (Snack Mix - With Chips & Curls) not the same mix; more crackers and things, fewer nuts. Recommended as respite from the tyranny of Mixed Nuts Ding Dong.
There is a BBQ version that I never see often enough to make the choice.

Hostess Strawberry Cheesecake Baby Bundts
these are smaller than I thought they would be - 3 bites or so. Pleasant artificial strawberry flavor. If you're into snack cakes, not a bad way to go. Might try the lemon at some point.

On a whim, Owlette brought home Pepsi Peeps yesterday and it was possibly the most disgusting soda I've had in my life. If you told me they literally just melted down Peeps in a microwave and dumped them in the bottle, I'd believe you. Don't know what I was expecting, I suppose.

I got my annual Shamrock Shake today. Is it a great shake? no. Have we made advancements in shake technology that far surpass this? sure. But I do love the nostalgia hit of my minty March friend.

The shake is just okay, but the Shamrock McFlurry is pretty great. I still get at least 1 shake every year, though, in protest of all the years I've spent where they weren't available.

Lay's Roasted Garlic Oyster Flavour
Another Lay's from abroad. This one is apparently different from the Taiwanese Oyster Vermicelli flavour. It is the kind of chip that you need to eat more than one of to get the flavours really saturated on the palate.
At first, strong, I do mean this, strong oyster liquor flavour rides right over the roasted garlic flavour I last encountered in the French Garlic Baguette Lay's. The first flush of briny, mollusk flavour needs a few handfuls of chips to settle and let the roasted garlic mingle. After that, if, like me, you've chosen not to bin the bag after first reaction of "blech!" the chip flavour grows on the consumer.

Lay's Grilled Squid
This chip is the wavy format. The format is used for some other "grilled" flavour chip in the Asian offerings of Lay's chips. The increased surface area does allow for more flavouring to attach to the chip. This is a good thing. Now, the review. The "grilled" flavouring is the same used in Lay's other "grilled" chips. The squid flavouring takes a relaxed in the back seat trip on this chip, and it is for the better. Only the slightest of the creaminess one usually experiences in a squid rings appetiser bobs up once in a while during the crunch and munch session on each chip. Recommended for those already familiar with the "grilled" Lay's if you want something that pleasantly surprises.

Dr. Pepper Cherry (from Poland)
O Smaku Wisnowym appears at the lower third of the can, telling us in Polish that the drinker does indeed have a beverage with cherry flavour. This is a black can that differs from the current North American Cherry Dr. Pepper and its green can. It contains both sucralose AND sugar, for that extra sweet tooth decay. I can report: Smakuje dobrze. Dunno if these EU stragglers would appear anywhere in North America.

Peeps gummis. All the flavor of Peeps (weirdly sweet vanilla?) paired in a completely wrong fashion with the texture of a soft gummi bear. No. No. A thousand times no.
