Summary:
McNulty has a theory about the dead witness from D'Angelo's trial. He visits the judge again and gets his supervisor even more pissed off at him. The office for the new police team is in the basement and shitty, matching the quality of most of the officers. There are a couple of union good old boys, some young lunkheads and assorted misfits. Nobody talks to each other. While McNulty and his old partner pick up D'Angelo for questioning, Greggs works with Bubbles to get photographs of the dealers. D'Angelo slightly breaks down in questioning and writes a non-incriminating note to the (non-existent) family of the murdered witness. He is swiftly pulled out by a lawyer and rebuked by his uncle Avon.
Three of the young lunkheads decide to bust some heads at the high rises after a night of drinking. Things get out of hand as one pistol whips a kid and they start getting stuff thrown at them and shots fired from the surrounding apartments. Daniels works up a cover story for them.
McNulty is woken up not just with news of the lunkheads but also with the media talking about the witness being killed. His supervisor is pissed yet again.
Daniels has a talk with his wife were she advises him not to play the game because it is rigged against him.
McNulty gets drunk yet again. The pistol whipped kid is blind in one eye.
Random thoughts:
The Chicken McNugget scene was fun if a bit on the nose.
Larry Gillard is doing a great job with the D'Angelo character, makes me retroactively sad how wasted he was in The Walking Dead.
Other nice moments were the discharging of the firearm in the office to truly show how shitty these guys are before the big fuckup. Also the teamwork of McNulty and his partner to break down D'Angelo.
