It was very lovely and warm over the weekend and then a cold front blew in, and dammit I think I have to turn the heat on again, and I don’t want to. I was just coming here to complain about this same thing! We finally had GLORIOUS days -- two of them in a row!! -- over the weekend, and then yesterday... falling back down to earth. I mean, I realize it's still early May, so I can't expect June weather. But that little nibble of it was so tantalizing! (Ugh. I just checked the forecast, and we're looking at "near record lows" on Saturday. DAMMIT!) It's even chillier today than it was yesterday, and rainy! thankfully we'll get back to 60 tomorrow, but next weekend is gonna be kinda cool too

Crazy jet stream!
It was 106 here today. Supposed to be 103. We're setting heat records.

We had two lovely days in the low to mid-60s and then the temperature crashed overnight. Though at least we're not getting snow today like some parts of the northeast. It's chilly, but sunny. Basically half the country is way colder than normal and the other half is way hotter, as Desert Dweller noted. We'll be back into the 50s tomorrow, which is definitely cool for this time of year, but at least it's not February temperatures.

Yeah. This is nutty. I'm on Twitter seeing it snow in NYC, meanwhile it is 101 degrees here. Now, 101 in May is not weird or unusual. However, several days in a row of 105-106 was more like early June, not early May. Probably 10+ degrees above average for early May. We're supposed to drop into the low 90s for the rest of the week, which is back to normal.
I already miss May 2019, which was freakishly cool, with temps often in the 80s. It was basically a repeat of March. (We had several months way under average last year.)
On the plus side, with these higher temperatures we may actually get rain this July/August. We were told that the freakishly cool temperatures in May-July last year actually prevented the atmospheric conditions that bring the rain in July/August. It was bone dry last Summer, which was alarming. Be careful what you wish for!

Yesterday was humid with thunderstorms and we had some real downpours overnight, but today it is mid-70s and absolutely perfect. One of those days I wish we had a deck or patio. Ahh.

It definitely feels like summer now, with a high around 80, high humidity and intermittent thunderstorms. Expected highs in the 80s over the weekend with more storms... time to play chicken with the air conditioning!

We just got a massive thunderstorm here -- the wind was so strong it snapped branches off several of our trees, and it actually hailed, which I'm not used to seeing. Those chunks of ice were at least an inch long! Our cars are fine, and miraculously, so is my herb garden.
Now the sun's coming back out. It's still nearly 90 degrees (Fahrenheit) here, and the storm did nothing to alleviate the humidity. I am so grateful for air conditioning.

It’s freaking HOT here and has been for awhile, and will continue to be. Chicago can get humid, but honestly it isn’t often above 90 for looong stretches. Not this year. Love air conditioning but it doesn’t cool our bedroom well so ... ugh.

Yeah, yeah, I live in the desert and it's July. I know. But still. I can't even sleep tonight because it is so hot. My AC is working, but there is something oppressive about this level of heat. It is 3:30am and it is 93 degrees outside.
It is supposed to be 117 degrees on Sunday. Blech. I wish COVID didn't exist and I could just go sit at a movie theater all day, instead of having to spend my own money to blast AC all day.

I will say it's not Arizona desert hot!! But we reached a high of 95 yesterday, and we've now had I think two straight weeks of 90+ degree days. Back in 2012 we had a brutal heatwave and 46 total above-90 degree days. We average 16 a year. We're currently at 14 in early July. And yeah, we can afford the increased electric bill, but my office frequently had ice cream and popsicles over the summer...

It's been toasty here in NJ as well. And dry, at least immediately locally to me (I know there have been plenty of spotty afternoon thunderstorms around, but for the last few weeks the closest we've gotten to rain was threatening skies and a few grumbles of thunder -- never a big, soaking cloudburst). That all changed with that tropical storm that blew through a few days ago. We got 2.5 inches of rain on Friday! And just in the nick of time, because we're having the deck sealed and the guy doing the power washing on it spent literally all day Thursday at it, to the point that he emptied our well. It was a few hours after he packed up for the day before we had any kind of water pressure in the house again. (Clearly he was the "power washing a deck" equivalent of those people who leaf-blow every single loose shred of vegetation off their lawns. Like, dude, enough! It's clean! It's fine! Leave some water for the rest of us!)

We actually *finally* dropped below 90 after - I think - 15 days of it. Yesterday it was about 81, today it's currently 81, and we slept with the windows open last night. It was glorious. This won't last, though, and we'll probably need to turn the AC back on tomorrow.

Yeah, this is not the place if you want variety in weather. Though, I can say that it does make one truly appreciate rain. The thunderstorm last night greatly improved my mood. Well, it dropped the temperature around 20 degrees, which also helped.

It's fucking hot. 118 on Thursday 116 on Friday Supposed to be 112/113 over the weekend. And the pools, malls* and movie theaters are all closed. Sigh.
*Technically, the malls aren't closed. But you can't actually go into many of the shops, a lot of it is still curbside pickup.

It's ...cool?! for the first time since June. Low 70s, overcast. It will slowly get warmer as the week goes on, but not hit 80 till Thursday or Friday. The AC is off, the windows will be opened once the landscapers stop working... ahh.

Tropical Storm Isiasis is currently passing through Maryland. It's pouring down rain, and the wind is just picking up. It's supposed to clear out by 4 PM or so, but before then my area is slated for 3 to 6 inches of rain. I moved all my herbs and pepper plants under the eaves last night so they won't get as much as they would just sitting out in the open.
Here's to hoping we don't lose power! Wicomico County already reported a tornado.

It got toasty again over the weekend (more humid, highs around 90) and now the grass is getting crispy. We need rain. There's been some in the region but so far none has really hit my county and today is basically our last chance for the week. So, I hope we get some rain.
Speaking of rain and Isiasis, everyone OK from that??
EDIT: So um not only is there rain coming but there's a giant storm system with 80 mph winds coming!!

It's decorative gourd season, motherfuckers!
It's supposed to be 106 here for the next two days. Welcome to October.
Now seeing tons of memes getting posted by locals of the sort that have "It's sweater weather" or "decorative gourd season" or "time for pumpkin spice" on the top with the 100+ degree days forecast underneath it.
Edited to add: Literally wore a tank top, shorts and sandals today.

Meanwhile our high is the 50s today, I think. I'd gladly take about 20 degrees off you.

Its fall weather here for sure. Highs in the 50's or 60's and nights in the 40's.We had a few cloudy days and a little rain, but it's still dry overall. Harvest has begun. I got the wood stove cleaned out, but still need to sweep the chimney and stovepipe.

It was 102 degrees here yesterday, October 16th. We have had 145 days of 100+ degrees. That is about 50% of the days of 2020, so far.
Sigh.
Just saying, I am wearing a t-shirt, shorts and sandals today, October 17th. People got excited about the "cool down" which brought our temperature down to 96 today. This is 10 degrees above normal.
The local news orgs keep posting articles that have headlines like, "Fun things to do for Fall (even though it still feels like Summer)". Hey, I suppose an outdoor barbecue would be safer for Thanksgiving than more traditional options.

Last fall and winter were incredibly mild here -- I'm not convinced we ever actually even had a freeze. I recall there was a hard frost late in May, but it seems almost like that was our first one for the winter too, right on its way out. No such problem this year, though! We had a good, freezing overnight late last week, cold enough to warrant putting the last of my winter blankets onto my bed. And then we had a bunch of all-day, pouring-rain kind of dreary days, followed today with blustery winds. Any remaining warm-weather foliage is on notice here; basically, we're slamming hard from the colorful part of fall into the brown part of it.

The last two weeks of October were pretty dreary - a lot of overcast days and chilly, and when the sun did come out it was blustery and COLD. But this week actually looks pretty pleasant - it's mid-50s today and supposed to get up to 70 by the weekend. That won't last, of course, but it's nice to have a smidge more warmer weather before we really settle in.
