Being a young is no excuse. oppy all along Ehhhhh, he's... okay. Most of his early stuff is weird, but some of his recent output is decent enough.

I ended that conversation with: "You love the Beastie Boys!!! (Um, yes, you should totally listen to Beck. Start with Odelay.)"

I know I've said before how part of My Cousin Vinny was filmed around my hometown, even on the road where my parents still live.
I would like to name my band The Yutes.

I have this friend who is about 10 years younger than I am. Tonight he texts me "I'm thinking I should try listening to some Beck. Thoughts?" OMG, I felt old. Edited to add: You guys, this text conversation is depressing. Me: Um, haven't you heard any Beck songs before? Him: Don't think so? Me: Loser? Where It's At? Him: Maybe? Me: Two Turn Tables and a Microphone? Him: What? Me: How have you not heard Odelay??? Him: I was 7 when that album came out! I was seven too... seven months. But Beck is timeless! Unrelated, Carly Rae Jepsen is lovely. Earnest uncomplicated happiness in audio form. Carly Rae Jepsen is fantastic. Everything pop music should be.
This song - and this version specifically- is so good it almost hurts me.

Why hasn't anyone covered the Bruce Springsteen song "Cover Me"? No one has the balls. What if Emmylou Harris did it?

What if Emmylou Harris did it? Not sure it would suit her voice. Neko Case, however ...

I must've been listening to it for about 20 years before I realised Clash City Rockers was a dig at Bay City Rollers.

If we an Unpopular Music Opinions thread too I would post my fondness for "Seein' Red" by Unwritten Law.

In the vein of Unpopular Music Opinions, I thoroughly dislike the song "Under Pressure" for hipster scum "everybody likes it and it's overplayed" reasons.

Someone switched MLS and MPC!
Anyway I have La Di Da Di and EPC/BEP playing in my car and it’s weird how close to each other they sound, like everything Battles did in between never happened

I deleted my 8bit cover of the Game of Thrones theme because it had 100k+ plays and the rest of my tracks are sub-200.

What is the name of that song where That One Band rubs matches against the microphone?

My random music comment for today is that a few weeks ago my turntable mysteriously stopped working between playing side 1 of "Bubblegum" and trying to play side 2. I assumed my cat had chewed through the wire and then dragged my feet on replacing it, and then when that didn't fix the problem, dragged my feet on trying to come up with some other troubleshooting. Finally, this week I looked at the cartridge and discovered the whole end of the arm had come unscrewed! Who ever knew that could happen?! (Uh... probably everyone, right?) Anyway, my turntable is finally working again and it's making me happy. To celebrate, I just ordered the black-and-gold variant of the upcoming Kishi Bashi album.

There's a Good Charlotte album coming out tomorrow and a masochistic part of me wants to listen to it and the new Blink-182 album back-to-back.

I just heard that cover of "Just Like Heaven" by Dinosaur Jr. and it made me so angry that that exists.

Opposite view: As a person who waited, waited....and waited for this video to premiere on MTV's 120 Minutes when it debuted in 199(?). I was ecstatic about it. I'm sure you don't care to hear bout my CD-single now lost to oblivion, or how much I like the video - what with the Ernie and Oscar moshing around the TV screen.

On the original Unpopular Opinions thread (RIP) I stated that I didn't care about Dinosaur Jr. or Built to Spill. Mostly either of those bands just give me no strong reactions, but that cover of one of the best Cure songs really displeases me.

For Our Consideration: most rock bands, especially metal bands, would be vastly improved if they went all-instrumental.

Post-Lupin, I'm offering this pyrrhic counterexample. How else could we learn that, "All is lost, none has won."? And, what would Mike Patton think about your position of consideration? He'd be awfully upset, I'd bet.

The other day, on iTunes, I rearranged the 2-CD version of Sandinista! to make 3 'discs' as in the original 3-LP release. It's somehow a lot more approachable, though it's still my least favourite Clash album by far - even if they'd boiled it down to the absolute best songs, it'd still be my least favourite.
I've also rejigged the Live 75-85 Springsteen boxset, and Dylan's Biograph, in this way. Pretty nerdy, I suppose.

As for repulsionist 's point about Patton, I'd contend that his vocals count as instrumentation at this point. By his own admission, he writes his lyrics solely based on the sounds the words make, not by any meaning. Also, he doesn't truck with that cookie monster shit. All cookie monster vocalists should be shot out of a canon into the sun. I get so angry when a metal band makes an amazing record and then ruins it with shitastic vocals. Deafheaven, I'm looking at you and Sunbather.

I got the feelz hard from listening to "Goodbye Horses" on Tuesday night. I felt Q Lazzarus's pain, telepathically. "And I said, 'Oh no, Sir'."
