I KNEW HE, HE HAD WISTFUL TREES IN HIM! I want to think all photogs have taken at least one picture of wistful trees.

I shall never be a real photographer. I don't have one photo of wistful trees! Alas.
The black and white one of Randy Johnson's doesn't do anything for me, but I really enjoy most of the rest of his Africa photos.
Anyway, the DBacks have now hired Randy on in some unspecified capacity. He thinks he might be working on some minor league player development. Can you imagine Randy Johnson as one of your pitching coaches? Hopefully the DBacks have some young, tall left-hander in their system.
And then hopefully Randy can teach that devastating slider he threw. Because I really miss seeing that pitch.

I took some wistful pictures at the savannah rapids today, and yes I did take one of a tree and put it in a black and white filter. I'm just too lazy to upload it right now.
And yeah, Randy Johnson will hopefully help make the DBacks respectable, even if I thought the former manager and current owner are everything wrong with baseball when they always talk about the unwritten rules and plunking people, uggh.
And an aside, the HOF vote always brings out the worst in baseball for me. Sure I like it when guys who get in get in, but the people who actually vote are always the most insufferable assholes. Like the guys who don't vote randy johnson or pedro because some old player never got a unanimous vote, or Rob Parker just being Rob Parker, whining about advanced stats, never voting in guys like Barry Bonds and Clemens. Look, they did steroids, but were good enough without it that they should be in. Just put an asterisk.

Ugh, the HOF voting has become a joke. I mean, I'm sure the voters were all stupid and/or jerks before. But now we have blogs and twitter, etc, so now we all have to hear about it all the time.
When that whole plunking disaster happened I tweeted out that it was the last straw for me, and Gibson and Towers should be fired. Some asshole responded that I obviously wasn't a real fan. And if I wanted to call myself a baseball fan I should take some time to understand the unwritten rules. And then whined about me insulting him after I called him a moron.

So the Nationals are very, very good at pitching now, right?

Famed guy who had sex with Meg White and saw Meg White boobs more than once, Jack White, apparently has a baseball card now. In other news, 2015 Topps baseball cards look like shit.

The Super Bowl is over. Is it baseball time yet? I want it to be spring.

I'm excited! Several players have already started working out at the spring training facilities!
I'm going to DBacks Fan Fest this year. I'm hoping to meet Paul Goldschmidt. This season probably can't be worse than 2014, so... OPTIMISM!

In a totally heterosexual way: Mmmmmm, Yoan Moncada.
Also, Paul Goldschmidt is the cousin of a guy who used to work at my summer camp. Small world!

Today the Diamondbacks traded Trevor Cahill. And the entirety of DBacks fandom checked to make sure it wasn't still April 1st.
Wooo! And Atlanta even took almost half his salary! And they gave us a 24 year old prospect who had to repeat A+ last season. So, it's almost not entirely a salary dump!
WOOOOOOO!!!

Hooray baseball! I love baseball season. Even though I'm a Blue Jays fan, which is a recipe for heartbreak and frustration. Especially in years when the entire rotation is cobbled together from Very Old Guys and rookies with nothing in between. *sigh*

*reads names* I dunno, I feel like most of this is making fun of Hispanic and Asian people for having names.

I don't make fun of those names. I think those are some of the most fun names in MLB.
How is Tuffy Gosewisch not one of the coolest names ever? That's my favorite name on the Dbacks (MLB). In the minors they have a kid named Socrates Brito.

Is it a bad thing in baseball when a 24 year old prospect is still in A+? *checks stats* 24 isn't necessarily doom when you're dealing with a guy who was drafted out of college, but... This guy seems like kind of a lottery ticket. He started off as a catcher who could hit, but it looks like injuries or lack of defensive talent moved him out to left field. He got injured again last year and hasn't really hit well in both attempts at A+ ball, so... I wouldn't expect much out of him. In other news, Melvin and Justin Upton are playing on the same team again.

*reads names* I dunno, I feel like most of this is making fun of Hispanic and Asian people for having names. The tone must be misconveyed. I'm not making fun. It's pure admiration. And the Hispanic and Asian names stand out as especially great names just like the "white people" names stand out as especially great names.

In other news, Melvin and Justin Upton are playing on the same team again. Braves spent all offseason trying to unload that guy, and get it done the day before the season starts. Curious once details emerge how much of his salary they'll have to pick up. More importantly, they got rid of Kimbrel! NOOOOO! Yes, I know it's kind of extravagant to carry an elite closer when most people don't expect you to actually win games, but damn that guy was fun to watch. And I have my doubts about San Diego actually being a contender in spite of their outfield acquisitions.

Curious once details emerge how much of his salary they'll have to pick up. As I read it, the Padres are on the hook for the entire contract, as well as Kimbrel's yearly salary. However, the two major-league outfielders that went to Atlanta have about 24M in salary owed to them, and Quentin's already been designated for assignment, which implies that trading him was purely a money-equalization move. Basically, Atlanta traded away about 60 million in debt and a closer in exchange for a bench player, a junk player, two prospects (one being a starting pitcher who looked great in AA before having a weak 3/4ths of a season in AAA last year), and a draft pick.

DBacks also released Cody Ross, and just ate the $9.5 million he was owed. So, they are paying $15 million for guys to play elsewhere. Hey, I'm just glad they're not trying to keep doing what they were doing last year.
DBacks are now the youngest team in the league. So, even if they finish in last place again, which is a possibility, at least it will be interesting to watch.

I'm actually excited for the Padres' season for the first time in years. Despite the opening day loss, I love seeing that their new guys are already generating runs.Obviously, the Giants will win the World Series next year, but I think the NL West will be an interesting three team contest this season.

Even though they'll lose a lot. But, yeah, the Padres will be fun to watch. It'd be great if they beat the Giants and Dodgers for the NL West title.

I had hoped for a better outcome against the Dodgers in the first three games but the good stuff I saw from the Padres made me very happy. The new guys on offense are all producing already. Pitching just ran into Adrian Gonzales on a crazy home run streak. In other baseball news, we're going to the Albuquerque Isotopes home opener tonight. In the off season, they became the Rockies Triple A team.

Sigh. In the first three games, the Rangers have been outscored 19-3. Somehow, those three runs all came in the same game, so we actually have a win already. But I suspect it's going to be a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong season in Arlington. Maybe the Mavs will make a surprise playoff run, or maybe Jerry Jones will trade the entire offensive line in order to draft Jameis Winston, something to distract us from what's going on at the Ballpark.

I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about the Mets this year. I don't quite buy that they'll get a wild card spot (Central and West seem just too stacked this year), but I can see them consistently staying on a pace to end up in the upper 80's win wise, maybe making a overly cautious mid-season trade that's at best a wash, ending up in a respectable enough 2nd place finish and really gunning to go deep in 2016.
