I am a strong believer in the John Waters quote about not fucking people who do not own books. We can go a step further and judge each other's bookshelves, share yours below. Here is one of mine. My only caveat is that I work in a library so I tend not to buy many new books.

I've unfortunately divested myself of a lot of books to save moving space but I still cling to these and a couple oversized ones not pictured

Ooh, Shelfies!! Bear in mind this is after we moved from a house with a full-wall library with a sliding ladder & had to sell/give away over 3000 books... (These are now in ebook form, but who wants to see a shelfie of a Dropbox folder?) The shared fiction with Tonks: Occult/research: Bedroom - comics & a couple collections (Andrew Vachss' Burke series & the Repairman Jack saga) plus a few specials (Colin and Robert Anton Wilson-related). (And yes; I put Alan Moore next to Grant Morrison because I can.)

Here's the bookshelf from the old place in Bristol: I miss it pretty much more than anything else about my time there... Yeah, that's a big cuddly ant top right.

Seriously though, that is an awesome bookcase.

I see I am going to have to up my game a bit. Here is my non-fiction shelf, mostly philosophy and anthropology. And my paperback science fiction. My wife tends more toward non-fiction, culture and politics. Here is the zoom out of the shelves upthread, the left side is mostly my wife and photo albums. I built these shelves when we moved in 8 years ago.

Too many small bookcases to post, so I'll just stick this one in - my dedicated Stephen King shelves. Everything's there, I think, apart from the Werewolf illustrated book, which I did use to have. They're arranged in order of publication, because I'm like that. Note the space remaining on the bottom shelf. When that's full, the man will keel over dead. It is written.

Thinner's also there, a couple of books before (that fucked with my anality, as I went with the pub. date of the omnibus), as is the one-time-only read The Regulators, pretty much directly below, and the pretty great Blaze below that.

Oh gosh you guys, I am too ashamed to post any pictures of our bookshelves, they're so dusty and full of stuff stacked in front of the books. At least the living room shelves have my nice/personally important books on them. Most of the stuff in the back is Lifemate's textbook and photography book collection. The library and the Baltimore Book Thing are my other shelves.
I actually would take a picture of my work bookshelf with journal and textbook collection, but no pics allowed on facility!

At least you've got bookshelves, ganews (insert "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch); not only do I have to wait until I move, but my books (and CDs, and most of my DVDs) are all boxed up, too. Actively jealous of these wonderful pictures.

I'm going to use this thread as motivation to get shelves built in my living room. Probably around July or so.

I moved a little while ago, and my books are all in boxes. Right now I don't even have any bookshelves (they stayed with my ex when I moved out). I so look forward to having shelves and books out again, even though the Littlest Dump is now 18 months old and grabbing every damn thing he can reach. Anyway, they looked pretty cool back at the house, before I pulled them off the shelves and boxed them up. Wish I had a photo of that.

My current living arrangements are closer to Judkins Moaner's than Post-Lupin', so I make do with the space I have, which basically gives: That's for the part I'm not too ashamed to show, there are books everywhere.

Yeah, that looks familiar. Mine used to look like that, only it was in the closet and now they're all boxed up. Once again, I can't fucking wait until I get to take a shelfie.

In a former life I owned a great many books, records, and a bunch of other cool shit. Most of the books weren't worth much (the records eventually paid my rent for a painful couple of months), but those things are easily re-acquired. What I miss most is that BOYS & GIRLS CATALOG stand peeking out from under Piggy & Pinocchio. It was pretty much my favorite thing in the world, and irreplaceable. I "rescued" it from the branch library I worked at for over a decade. I held onto it until last year, when it was improbably destroyed in a storage unit flood.

God dammit, I missed the Shelfies thread! Here's my corner unit. There are other bookshelves scattered throughout the house, but this one is the most organized. All books are alphabetical by author, except for the ones that are just crammed on top for lack of space/effort. My wife for some reason insists on also putting pictures and other such tchotchkes all over the shelves, which in some cases makes books hard to get to, and in other cases takes up entire shelves that could instead be used for quality book storage, hence the other bookshelves scattered around the house.

My trans-Atlantic move meant that basically everything I could bring as an ebook was brought as an ebook, and that the majority of my reading is now electronic. Unfortunately, I’ve continued to pick stuff up after going to exhibitions and used-book markets (and record-stores), so most of my books are big and picture-filled:

This isn't everything in my room, but it does feature a few of my bookcases. I specifically took this picture because of the new one I "got" (i.e. someone had left it next to our townhouse complex's dumpster, even though it was perfectly fine and I decided to steal it), which made me able to put a TON of books from the floor and various boxes onto actual shelves. The new one is the big wooden one I'm standing next to; the other two I've had for many years now.
And yes, that is me there (and one of my cats- wish he had been looking at the camera as he is ADORABLE). You can also see some CDs and DVDs on the left bookcase. Most everything on these shelves are my review books for my blog.

Sometimes I want to post pics in this thread, but then I look at Post-Lupin' wall of wonder and think eh, why bother? Ditto. Mine are a total mess. I have no wall space. So, I have bookcases scattered in every room. Wherever I have room for them. And I have all sorts of other stuff stacked on them. Blank DVDs/bills/mail etc. Not to mention all the books still in boxes because I just don't have room for them.

Sometimes I want to post pics in this thread, but then I look at Post-Lupin' wall of wonder and think eh, why bother? No, go for it! Those are the shelves we left behind years ago. Current arrangement is a more modest affair by far... well, 4 sets of shelves (general fiction, my bedroom special books - no, not like that, and mine & Tonks' professional libraries).

Somewhat related to this thread:
I had a dream the other night that I got a new apartment. Now, sometimes when I'm dreaming I realize that it is, in fact, a dream and decide to kind of design it to my desires. So I expanded this dream apartment to a HUGE one and was designing it in my head as I slept. Anyway, every single room was basically lined with bookshelves.
This is indeed how I would want it in real life. And I had areas of rooms designed specifically for my favorite people, so @iffy had his own section, as did @taxman, my friend Danny and my folks. All set up in the way they'd like best.
What I'm saying is I'd basically live in a library if I was vastly wealthy.

I have never really gotten out of my "poor college student" phase so the majority of my reading is from the library, but here's my somewhat sparse collection.
