Not in the spirit of the thread, obviously, but I first remember being aware of St. Vincent when I saw the album cover posters to Marry Me pop up in our independent record stores (of which there were three downtown at the time--the wrong one closed). At the time, our local music scene was really top-heavy with waifish, ethereally pretty singer-songwriters showing up at houses with acoustic guitars and hypnotizing gullible undergrads (presumably, of course, this is true of every local music scene). In a magnificent display of superficiality, I rolled my eyes, thought "oh, not another one," and kept on my way. Fast forward a couple of years, Tom Allen plays "Marrow" on CBC 2, I'm intrigued, pick up Actor from the record store the next time I pass by, and almost without realizing it, play it all the way through eight or nine times over. Never looked back since. Good on you for picking it up the first time.

Ooh, quit thread! For me, the ender was basically Hello Gutter, Hello Fadder in season 11, the Maggie/Homer episode with Homer's perfect game in bowling. After that I was no longer a regular watcher. Edit: to balance, El Viaje Misterioso De Nuestro Jomer is my favorite.

I didn't feel the need to investigate backwards until Nimrod, which is still maybe my overall favorite of theirs (I don't even skip Time of Your Life, I just pretend I haven't heard it a million times).
