Watching Looking and Togetherness back to back has become one of my favorite things. They're both great shows on a lot of levels, and the filming of both is gorgeous.

Finished up Louie last night—one of my favorite TV shows ever, and the fourth season was one of my favorite seasons of a comedy (and more) ever. In addition to being just so all-round sensitive, the casting’s spot on. Although I didn’t recognize any of the actors in the marijuana two-parter, they really felt like Massachusetts people in a way that rarely gets communicated on TV or film. And I wholeheartedly approve of Charles Grodin as Louie’s new doctor (edging past Jane as my favorite supporting character) and F. Murray Abraham playing both his uncle and father (and both so distinctly, too).
Now on to Transparent (I saw the first episode last December but didn’t immediately continue because everything not-Jeffrey Tambor-related was just so Los Angeles that it kind of turned me off. Though I’ll probably watch Man in the High Castle (is it just a pilot or a bunch of episodes so far? I’ll find out soon enough) first to do my part to try to get it picked up.

In one of the flashback sequences on the show where Louie is remembering a kind of annoying friend of his, that friend is played by Nick Kocher, of Britanick, easily my favourite YouTube comedian series thing. Since that's the only time I've seen either one on TV, it's one of my favourite guest spots by default. It's a pilot. Amazon releases all their pilots to viewers to give their two cents on. It's one of the best regarded pilots of this stage, however, so I guess it's one of the ones most likely to go to series. |

Yeah they drive that particular joke (and others) into the ground early and often, but it becomes a little more subdued a few episodes in. I found it an acceptable low-stakes watch, but wouldn't blame you you for not going further into it. |

@iffy: I haven't rewatched Beer Bad yet, hence it having no grade. We skipped over it for the time being. I'll wait until we're further into season 4's post-Hush slump. Nonetheless, I have to disagree with you, Beer Bad really is terrible. You really do seem to be generally softer on the show than I am, which is fine. I've been in that position. There are definitely critics/my fellow fans of other shows who seem way too harsh on them.
And as for Wild at Heart, I really disliked it the first time I saw it in 2010. It didn't help that I was completely unaware that this was going to happen and the behind the scenes reasons that it did. It seemed to come out of nowhere, be badly rushed and unearned. There's nothing that frustrates me more, particularly with this show, than when it gives me emotional pain and it didn't even execute well enough to earn it. I was really surprised when I watched it last week and found that the execution was actually pretty solid. It even does a good job of exposing some of the issues in Willow and Oz's relationship, that the flipside of his trademark stoicism is difficulty in being upfront and communicating, which helps take away a bit from the out of nowhere thing. That said, the out of nowhere issue still applies. My knowledge of the production issues that led to this being the way it is aside, it doesn't totally succeed as an organic development and doesn't feel having been built up to at all.

I'm with Lady Bones on Beer Bad. Everyone's out of character, and the whole thing was a throwaway written for an anti-drug PSA grant that they didn't even get awarded. What a waste of an episode. |

Roy Batty's Pet Dove: Yeah, Green Seat is definitely a good one, it won me over on the show, pilot-wise, but the eyes sequence at the end of Light is pretty iconic for the show, and for good reason.

Eh, I felt like the final twist was kinda bullshit, in its eschewing any meaningful emotional resonance in favor of cheaply-earned deus ex machina, although it was certainly more exciting than last season's dull finale. Seriously though, congrats on the win. Also tangentially related: from the commercial that aired during the Super Bowl, Fast and Furious 7 looks like it's going to be hilariously stupid fun, even if it is a bit concerning that Vin Diesel still seems to have that concussion. |

Banshee episode ranks for season 3.
Episode 1, "The Fire Trials": A-
Episode 2, "Snakes and Whatnot": B+
Episode 3, "A Fixer of Sorts": A
Episode 4, "Real Life is a Nightmare": A-
The only real difference between my grades and the AVC's grades of the show is the A- for episode 4. I have absolutely no complaints about the episode, it just gets a minus because Banshee has a notch higher it could go, as seen by episodes 3 grade. I have a sneaking suspicion that next week's episode is going to be one of the best the show has ever done. The show is just on a fantastic roll right now.

Eh. My problem with it so far is that the two leads have NO chemistry so far and are both pretty boring. However, I'm interested to see what they do with it and Tom Noonan and Kirk Acevedo are great supporting cast members. I'm gonna give it a few more episodes and if I keep mentally grading it a C, I'll stop watching as I have plenty of other things to watch. |
