I just finished watching the premier and I must discuss it, so spoilers if you're worried about that kind of thing.
Holy shit that was awesome. We start off with Vampiro being interviewed by a psychiatrist to hopefully be released from an institution. Those were a lot of promises you made to that guy Vamp, and just doing your job breaks at least one of them.
Caterina is now in charge of the temple, and Fenix returns to use the Gift of the Gods for a shot at Mil Meurtes. But Caterina has other plans, someone has been looking for Fenix to take the Gift from him. King Cuerno and Fenix for the Gift of the Gods? That match sounds like it is a gift from the gods! I can't wait for it. Comercial break, "The following is for the Gift of the Gods championship." Oh shit, I don't have to wait!
Oh, and there's Mil Meurtes sitting on a throne watching over the temple, that's a lot of skull and bones on that arch over it Mil. It's a tough style to pull off but it suits you.
And in a complete non surprise, Fenix and Cuerno deliver an excellent match. Although in what was a huge surprise to me, Fenix loses to Cuerno! WHAT!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I can't believe that happened, with Fenix and Meurte's past I would've thought that their showdown would have been inevitable but it seems that other things are planned.
Oh, Son of Havoc, Ivelisse and Angelico have arrived, I wonder what's in store for them. What's that Caterina? A triple threat match for a shot at the Championship, and the winner faces Mil Muertes that night? Well that's a way to screw around with their fragile friendship. Some fun triple threat action is in store for us with Ivelisse stealing the victory! And now she's going to have to face Muertes.
After Muertes comes down from his throne and enters the ring we get a little bit of a staredown between Caterina and Mil and Ivelisse, Angelico, and Son of Havoc. But wait! The disciples of death come out of no where and attack Angelico and Havoc and drag them off leaving Ivelisse to face the mountain of death that is Mil Muertes by herself.
Ivalisse doesn't back down but Mil just shrugs off strikes. She's doing her best but can't really do much against the big man. Mil picks up Ive but she counters it into a tornado ddt and gets a two count. Caterina enters the ring to distract Ive and Ive grabs her, but Mil is behind her, MIL CHARGES TO GO FOR A SPEAR! IVE THROWS CATERINA INTO MIL'S PATH AND SHE GETS DESTROYED!!! MY GODS SHE'S BEEN BROKEN IN HALF!!! Mil can't believe it, Ive goes for a school boy, two count! Ive charges at Mil but gets a powerslam for her efforts. Mil picks her up, Flatliner! It is over.
Now Caterina returns to the ring, she goes down to give Ive the Lick of Death... but she stopped. No, she wants Mil to hurt her more! Mil picks her up to deliver another Flatliner, BUT HERE'S PRINCE PUMA FOR THE RESCUE! He kicks Muertes is the head and pulls Ivelisse out of the ring. Muertes is furious and has some harsh words and trash talk is exchanged between the two of them.
Wait, what the hell? Now Pentagon Jr is in the ring. Muertes doesn't see him, LUNGBLOWER TO MUERTES! Pentagon Jr starts setting him up to make another sacrifice to his master, AND HE BREAKS MUERTES ARM! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!?! HOW CAN THIS BE HAPPENING!?!?!
What a goddamn ending, is this the end of Mil's reign as champion? I'll have to wait for next week to see.
Oh good, after the credits we get a little bit more, with former owner Dario Cueto. It seems he's up to his old tricks with another underground fighting ring and some chumps who are looking to catch some action. $20 gets you in guys, but you have to let Mr. Cueto use that big key of his to open the door for you.
"Who's fighting tonight?" one of the chumps asks.
"You are." Mr. Cueto's mischievious smile brightens all our lives. And the door is closed.
And from the sounds that are coming from behind that door, it does not sound like they are doing very well. Or are going to be alive for much longer.
So guys, I think it's safe to say that I'm going to have to punch a hole in time to get to next week right the fuck now because I need to know what happens next damnit, and I need it now!

Lucha Underground announced on their Facebook page that season 3 is going to happen.
That is awesome, especially since there won't be that sort of will there, won't there after last season finished.

And because life has to be an asshole to balance things out, Bret Hart announced on his Facebook page that he has prostate cancer and is going in for surgery in a few days.
You beat that stroke Hitman, you can beat this too.

You beat that stroke Hitman, you can beat this too. That's pretty bogus news. I always liked Bret Hart as a younger man than I am today. Honestly he's the main reason I suffered through the Mantaur/Todd Pettengill years of the early to mid 90s rather than giving up on wrestling. Hope he beats this.

Finally got around to watching this weeks Lucha Underground. Unsurprisingly, it was quite enjoyable. Spoilers ahead if that's something you care about.
Kobra Moon made a fairly impressive debut. She has some nice high flying moves, that hurricanrana to the outside was just crazy good. I liked how they did the finish for her match, the drama of Bengala walking towards the ropes only to fall backwards and then get fully locked into it gave it a bit of a surprise finish since you thought he was going to make it to the ropes and break it up.
Next we had Drago facing off against Jack Evans. I do not like Jack Evans, pretty much because he's a showboaty jerkface. Which is what he's trying to do for heel heat and it's definitely working on me, the guy is mega talented in the ring. Drago is also super great, one of my favourites from season one. Not only does he have a great look (the new one he started rocking towards the end of last year is even better) but he's just so damn good.
Their match was pretty good, Jack was fighting especially dirty and pulled out the surprise win. Then calling himself the "Dragon Slayer" pretty much cements that him and Drago will be going at it again pretty soon.
Finally, the main event, King Cuerno vs Fenix in a last luchadore standing match. Given the calabre of talent and their match in the season opener it's pretty much a given that this is guarenteed to be good. And they do not disappoint. Some great spots naturally happen, Fenix's springing hurricanrana early in the match was especially awesome. The finish was great, after Cuerno sets a ladder against the wall of the office and then setting up a table Fenix quickly climbs the ladder to get on top off the office and when Cuerno chases him up Fenix kicks him and the ladder over sending Cuerno through the table. Just a beautiful sight as he fell.
Throughout the match Mil was watching and reacting when Fenix was getting good moves off. I like how this is setting up Fenix as someone for Mil to worry about. Which isn't that surprising since I believe that Fenix is the only person to have beaten Mil one on one. I want to say Fenix has won more once but I can only really remember him winning their casket match.
And that post credits stinger was interesting. Cortez Castro has been an undercover cop this entire time? That's crazy. But now, a new undercover cop and his unstoppable penis are being sent in as well. Yes, (insert name of the guy I've forgotten) who went viral a few months ago for his penis slam is entering the temple. I have no idea how good this guy is in the ring but that move was fucking hilarious so I hope he's good in the ring.
I can't decide if I want him to have an unstoppable penis in Lucha Underground though, that seems a bit weird for this promotion.

So this weeks episode was pretty fun.
We started off with Ivalise confronting Catrina about wanting to get the trios titles and threatening each other. I'm kind of scared how attractive I found Catrina while playing with that knife. I mean, she's always hot but that gave her a little bit of extra spice. The end of this resulting in Catrina booking them into a match so they can rebuild their worthiness to get a title shot though.
We start off with that match, Ivalise, Havoc and Angelico come out to face Chavo and the Crew. It was alright, the wrestling was good but it didn't really have any stand out moments during it with the exception of when Angelico did a running rope flip to the outside while Havoc did a spring board moonsault to the outside and Ivalise jumped off the second turnbuckle to the outside each of them taking out an opponent each.
After the match Chavo and the Crew were having words when they were attacked by Texano, who makes his first appearence this season. Chavo feeds him the Crew and gets out of there. I find this a little on the disappointing side since last week we had a promo about Texano returning this week and for it to only be a run in is kinda lame.
This is followed up by a backstage promo with Cortez Castro and Joey Ryan with Ryan being a dick to Castro. Also, I don't think you're that good at being a cop or being deep undercover if you talk about being cops in the lockerroom of the place you're trying to infiltrate.
But we get to see Ryan in his first match, and he comes out and oils himself up in the ring. He is pretty creepy and sleazy and quite frankly, I'm feeling it. It's weird and gross and for some reason I just like it. However his opponent is no man... HE'S A MACHINE!
Cage gets his first match of this season against the debuting Joey Ryan. Pretty good back and forth with Cage getting the victory in the end. After the match he gets jumped by Johnny Mundo, but after the initial attack Johnny goes for The End of the World but Cage gets up as he's jumping up and grabs Johnny's leg pulling him down and then sets him up for the Weapon X. I'm pretty amused that Johnny's run in did not work, which is good since the last match had the same thing happen with Texano but Texano's actually succeeding. Right now Johnny is on the more losing side then winning, I think that when Cage and Johnny finally face off against each other Johnny is going to pull out the victory because of the laws of reverse momentum in wrestling.
Finally we get to the main event, Pentagon Jr vs Prince Puma.
One little detail I've really liked about Lucha Underground is that ever since Pentagon went after Melissa Santos every time she's announced his name she has not been very pleased to say it.
The match itself is pretty good, a nice high light being Puma going for a springboard moonsault off the ropes and Pentagon drop kicking him in mid air. The finish was interesting, Pentagon had Puma in a surfboard when Puma slid up so that his shoulders were were down above Pentagon's head. The ref starts counting a doule pin but Puma gets his shoulders up at the last second scoring him a surprise win. Pentagon doesn't realize his shoulder's were down though and starts to celebrate only to become quite angry when Puma is the one with his arms raised.
Pentagon kicks the ref in the face for this, Puma returns the favour to Pentagon and sets him up into Pentagon's own arm breaking move. While Pentagon is helpless and about to have his arm broken Puma talks some trash to him. Puma doesn't break his arm though. He's too honourable for that, but he did send a message to Pentagon. Knowing Pentagon though, that message is more chum in the water for him to attack Puma.
The post credits stinger belongs to Sexy Star this time, she's running through the halls of the Temple I think, scared out of her mind. She runs into the Mack who tries to calm her down but she's freaked out by being attacked by The Moth's sister. Or at least whatever Marty calls his sister.
I really want to know what the hell is going on with this creepy Sexy Star/Marty the Moth thing. Especially since the Mack is now getting involved and anything that features the Mack has got my attention.

LU is just killing it this season. Fantastic matches and incredible angles. Also: GET FAME I've been kinda curious if anything was going to happen with Famous B since the last time we saw him was in some battle royal thing and he eliminated the other jobbers. Was that a sign he was going on to other and greater things or am I just reading too much into things? Time will tell. Although that ad might be an indication that yes, he will be.

I am never not impressed with Dusty's mic work. How the hell does someone have that much charisma?
And how the hell does someone say "suck cup" with a straight face?

So this summer Smackdown is moving to Tuesday night, going live, and apparently reviving the brand split. Via VarietyThis, I think, could be really good. Early on in the original brand split it was really cool and led to some PPV matches that felt special. When RAW guys showed up on Smackdown and vice versa it felt like a big deal. They've got a lot of good talent right now and I think that a brand split could help some of the guys who are not Roman Reigns get a chance to shine. Depending on what they do with PPV/Network specials they will give shows longer to develop a feud so things do feel so rushed. That being said, they run a risk of repeating the same problems that the original brand split faced if they aren't careful. While guys showing up on the wrong show was kind of shocking in the beginning, over time they did it too much and that shock and awe faded. Plus there would be those months with two PPVs where it was just too much wrestling over the course of the month. Right now there's not a lot of concrete details, but there talk of creating a second World Heavyweight Title and pairing that with either the US or IC championship on one show while the other one gets paired with the current Heavyweight championship on the other show. To be honest I'd rather they reactive Cruiserweight Championship or Hardcore or a TV championship or something as a low level belt for each show and keep the heavyweight championship as a thing that moves between brands. Set it up like the old NWA belt where the champ goes from federation to federation to face the top guy there because in my mind one of the biggest flaws of the original brand split was the two top titles because after awhile the Raw Heavyweight Championship became the true main championship, while the Smackdown one was like slightly better than the IC belt, but that's just me. What do all y'all all think about this y'all?

Yeah, I'm not sure about the brand split. I'd like to think that maybe it would work and it could be like the Smackdown Six era wherein both shows had a unique falvour and their own identity, but I have so little faith in WWE's attention span nowadays . . . I think my biggest immediate concern is that they'll use the brand split to randomly break up a bunch of tag teams for no goddamn reason. They did in the first time giving us Reverend Devon and other shit like this and on Raw this week they had the audience surrogates (New Day) come about and be like, "We are somewhat confused by this brand split. What about those of us in tag teams and stables? Surely we would be drafted as a single entity," to which the McMahon Siblings were pretty much like, "Nope! Anything can happen in the draft and subsequent brand split!" Which made me sad, because I now like 87% certain that one New Day guy will get sent away while the other two get turned into a standard issue tag team which is a tragedy.

A friend has an extra ticket for Monday Night Raw tonight and I'm super psyched to be going! It's been way too long since I've watched the shows though so I feel totally out of the loop. I looked up the major "storylines" on the website but I wondered if you wrestling fans had any scoop on what's going on. What sort of fun things are we yelling at the wrestlers these days? I remember enjoying myself greatly yelling "You suck" at Kurt Angle oh so many years ago....

So, are we talking about Omega - Okada from a couple months back? We probably should be, as well as NJPW in general. We talked about it down in the shoutbox shortly after it happened but we can talk about it again here. I'll start. Man Kenny Omega sure has come a long way since he wrestled a nine year old girl and an inflatable sex doll (not at the same time)!

Post by Jon Pertwees Shameless Gurning on Feb 24, 2017 9:06:02 GMT -5
He sure has. I'm really just starting to get into his stuff now, but he's arguably the biggest non-WWE star on the planet right now, and more than deserves the spot.
His decision to stay in NJPW for at least the foreseeable future is pretty big, too. I'm sure he and the Young Bucks are being compensated well to avoid a repeat of the Styles/Club/Nakamura defection as well. I think there's a good chance Omega especially gets to the E eventually, but he's biding his time and driving his value up. Very smart.
