While the AVC appears to be getting the band back together, the Takeout is just sad. In its new incarnation there are no comments, so it's not much fun, and about 70% of the stories are kinda nonsense clickbait. Bah.

Bringing back Nathan Rabin.
His writing has gone from indispensable to insufferable and there's no sign of that changing. The MWOF on Ant Man is simply dreadful on pretty much all counts. The writing is smug and condescending and unbelievably self-important. The stuff about the Razzies and Duval is nominally interesting but has no place in that kind of article. It's self-indulgent in the worst possible way. It can't really find anything to say about the movie it's meant to be talking about other than "sludgy CGI mess" which doesn't require several thousand words to elucidate. But, you might argue, that's the nature of that film and there's not much interesting to say about it. OK. Find a more interesting film to talk about then (pretty sure even a mediocre writers of my ability could manage to find something more interesting to say though). Just awful.
It's nice, I guess, that they're trying to get the band back together but you know, sometimes there's a good reason they split up in the first place. Let it go.

And they're still doing that thing where they don't update for 4-5 days, and it's like, "Welp, I guess this is it." I wish the moderators would remove comments that solely comment on an actress's plastic surgery. The reviews on Nicole Kidman's show/film are filled with comments which are only there to comment on her face. Surely, these can be removed, right AV Club?

You start deleting comments about plastic surgery and before you know it, people are getting banned for saying the Nazis were misunderstood victims and Churchill was the real villain all along. |

But there is nowhere where it is relevant to film criticism to say, "Why would a man think Nicole Kidman is attractive with that face?" Or "Can she move her face in this?" Look at those reviews. It was shocking to see so many comments, usually the earliest ones that are comment after comment saying "She can't move her face".
