I saw coltsfoot blooming today, which is always the first indicator of spring in these parts. It's coming! It looks like this! Flowers first, then the leaves come out.

We do not have any flowers yet, that I've seen. The grass is still dead-brown. There's mud in spots.
BUT. It's 60 degrees, and sunny, barely a cloud in the sky. A gentle breeze. The birds are singing. The ducks are back on the pond. SPRING, I'VE MISSED YOU!

It snowed on Friday and was fairly chilly all weekend. It's now 60 degrees, and the rest of the week is going to have highs around 70 before dipping back into the low 60s. I'm enjoying the weather, but my sinuses are already in revolt.

Rain all week, supposedly.
I've realized that Houston springs are kind of anemic. Or at least the two that I've been here for. It doesn't all go at once: you get a few early flowers like redbuds, but you don't just get this explosion of flowers the way even Dallas does. Plus it warms up so quickly most things just go right into leaves and skip the flower stage.

But I kinda want my slip-ons and there's only so much room on our shoe shelf by the door. FINE, I'll keep putting my sneakers on, I don't want it to be my fault either.

It is 68!!!!! outside. SIXTY EIGHT. Breezy and partly sunny. In CHICAGO in early MARCH. That's practically unheard of.
I mean, it's gonna go back down to a more seasonal 50s soon enough but. I'll take it.

72 and sunny here in the DC area! I was so excited to put on a dress and ballet flats and a light cardigan that I didn't remember to shave my legs first. Oops.

I had this nightmare a few days ago that I went out in sandals in this warm weather and hadn't taken care of my toes. Seriously, it's a horrorshow down there.

Holy shit, you guys, I just had to drive over to the other site for a meeting, and it's amazing outside. 74, somewhat sunny (it's a bit hazy, actually), birds chirping... perfection. I drove with my windows down! It's supposed to be even nicer tomorrow and Thursday! It's going to be a harsh blow when things go back to normal next week... And hey -- the purple crocuses have joined their early-blooming white and yellow brethren:

We just left Atlanta, which, while spring is juuust creeping in there, is still more beautiful than Houston in full spring mode is right now. The grass isn't even green yet, but lots of trees were just exploding flowers. Plus it was spectacular weather all weekend. Seems like the whole city was outside basking in it. I'm worried Houston's good weather is already gone.
By happenstance, we were gone the weekend of the time change, but since we were already an hour ahead coming from CST, so it didn't faze us much. But now that we're back, we're definitely feeling it.

It's 80 degrees/sunny during the day, 50/foggy at night... definitely spring in California.
Last year, when I was doing a lot of extra work, I met a lot of fellow actors who were from the deep south and absolutely detested having to put on a jacket at night, which was amusing.
I just learned that's why our oranges turn orange. Orange peels work kind of like deciduous tree leaves. In tropical countries, it never gets cold enough for them to turn orange, but the Mediterranean spring nights do the trick straight away.

It's Spring! We got snow. Lots of big, fluffy flakes of snow. Enough to cover the ground in some places. It's all gone now, and it's actually fairly nice out. Also, the lawn needs mowing. Time to rotate the horses into the front yard.

We got some snow overnight, just enough to have a crunchy little crust of icy white stuff on the cars this morning. But it's sunny and warm enough that it'll all melt today. I know that all the early-blooming spring flowers can handle some snow, but it's still nice that we didn't end up with as much as was predicted, so the daffodils that are starting to pop weren't too inconvenienced.
Of course, the "warm" it is today isn't actual, real warm. Just not cold enough for a thin crust of snow to survive a day. I'm getting very annoyed by having to continue wearing my winter wardrobe, but in that weird in-between way of having highs in the low 50's. Apparently having daffodils blooming a month early isn't enough for me -- I need it to be in the 70's, too.

It's getting back down to 35 tonight. That is not what's supposed to happen in Florida in late March.

Yesterday, I went outside without a winter coat on and wasn't immediately filled with regret for the first time this year. It's back to near-freezing again today but it's a start.

We have an absolutely beautiful day here today. 85, with a clear blue sky, very slight breeze. Wow! I am really enjoying this one. I'm sitting out on the patio. I figure we only have 2-3 more weeks when I'll be able to sit outside in the afternoon.
Also, my neighbor's bougainvillea has exploded! The wall between our yards is now completely covered in magenta flowers. This tree is so huge, it is growing flowers up to their second floor windows.

Weather whiplash today.
This morning: gray, drizzly, humid.
Mid-morning the sun came out, looked nice.
Early afternoon, thunderstorm, pouring rain, hail.
Now it's bright, sunny and nearly 70.

After some warm days last week, the weekend has been cold and windy, and we had a freeze warning last night. Very soon, however, we will have our best season of the year, morel mushroom season! Yummy, delicious fungi!

After a glorious week of springtime with flowers blooming and leaves on trees and all the shades of green a girl could hope for on our vacation in Dallas, I came back home to fully blooming peach trees! Ornamental pear and cherry trees all a-blossom! The redbuds about to bust out! Aaaaaaaaaaaand... now we're getting predictions of a deep freeze tonight and tomorrow night, which means my peach trees have blossomed too soon and the apples, which are just on the verge, will probably get ruined too. Stupid too-soon warm weather! And even stupider falling-back-to-earth cold weather! ::kicks sadly at dirt:: That's okay. I didn't want peaches anyway.

Spectacular weather again, thank god. I left the kitchen door open to air things out (we have a frustratingly airtight house with very few open-able windows) while I cooked yesterday. Unfortunately, this let in a host of bugs and so now there's fruit flies and mosquitos constantly darting about the periphery of my field of vision.

It was so horribly cold this morning. HORRIBLY! I didn't just need my puffy coat -- I also needed my gloves! It's a nightmare. But! It remains the Daffodil Festival at stately Dick n Hisses Manor, so here are some pictures from this past weekend, when the sun made everything look a lot nicer than it really was:
