Those boots are wonderfully cozy, but I feel, and perhaps look, a bit juvenile wearing them on well-shoveled sidewalks. I also have extremely lean legs and feel a little like an ostentatiously groomed poodle given their bulk. Agreed. Unless you wear these with cargo pants like some sort of road worker, it looks a bit gender fluid (which isn't a bad look; just maybe not what you're going for).

It is about 70Β° F right now. The person working next to me at the cafe is wearing gloves. Oh SoCal.
He might have something going on with his hands, too, but I bust up a bunch of blisters rowing this morning and Iβm out here without anything covering my hands. Come on, dude.

Describe these gloves: are they black like a burglar might wear? Leather driving gloves? Does he strike you as a golfer, bowler, or weightlifter? Are the fingertips cut out hobo-style? Are they opera length? My mind is reeling with colorful possibilities of who one might encounter at an LA coffee shop.

I ordered several items the other day from an online catalog, got a big old package, tried everything on - one knee length plain gray skirt is all that fit. I bought two different pairs of corduroy pants (I love corduroy in fall and winter) and one was too big and the other was too small. Ugh. Now I have to send it all back.

moimoi Just ordinary black woolen gloves, the short youβd wear with a coat in late autumn

I enjoy that Rue21 caters to my exact soft-Joan Jett lesbian aesthetic by slapping embroidered roses on plaid flannel shirts and faux-leather moto jackets.
In other news, I just bought two plaid flannel shirts and a faux-leather moto jacket with embroidered roses on them.

Youβre meant to match the color of belts and shoes, but could the reddish ones be worn with a black leather coat and belt without being too jarring? Otherwise, they come in black, but I prefer the former, I think.

Lord Lucan, I like the reddish ones better and I don't see why you couldn't wear those with a black belt and coat.

moimoi Well, it bears considering, but I donβt think I quite satisfy the sufficient apparel/accoutrement conditions to be assumed as such.

An all black outfit with red boots could be fun, but...hmm, your accessories really better shout out "I am not a skinhead" or be concerned with Moimoi's point....just don't add white shoelaces, I guess.

Fun, in this instance, is a good thing. And this is apparently a thing, because when I tried to do an image search Google autofilled in my question after the word 'outfit,' so just do a search for "all black outfits with red shoes."

Amidst many bad instances, I found a few quite good and helpful ones, so thank you.

Didn't you say once that your hair was silver/gray? If so, either of those colors would look great on you, but I think the red would be stunning.

Land's End. Not that I buy them there (I haven't worn a button-up shirt in years), but I think their quality is good. Also possibly LL Bean?

I donβt wear button-ups on a regular basis either -usually under pullovers or sweater vests - but I have a couple soft blouses from Uniqlo that work well under their knits. They usually have good sales.

Today is a tweed jacket day, with charcoal pants and a purple tie. I look respectable.

Flying into LA from Chicago I had a sportcoat on for the plane and I actually didnβt bother taking it off in LA. There are benefits to it being a dry heat. Lord Lucan I think belt and shoes having to match is one of those things that people assume is a rule but has never actually been a rule. They have to go, but thatβs very different.

which one of these ludicrous hoodies should I think about buying before backing out because I'm not enough of a risk taker and don't have enough money to spend on a thing I'll be too scared to wear in public?

If you're going to embrace totally ludicrous clothing, you can't half-ass it. The first one says half-assing it.
