Time to get heretical: Horror remakes that are better than the original
The Blob (1988) Dawn of the Dead (2004) The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

Yesterday in shoutbox I said that The Hudsucker Proxy is the best Sam Raimi movie AND the best Coen Brothers movie.
This shouldn't be interpreted as a putdown on either filmmaker, even though it is absolutely true

Definitely the best Jennifer Jason Leigh performance, too

I never liked the Rocky Horror Picture Show. And as much as I like Halloween, costumes and good, homemade costumes, attending one of those rowdy midnight shows with people yelling and throwing things sounds awful.

I never liked the Rocky Horror Picture Show. And as much as I like Halloween, costumes and good, homemade costumes, attending one of those rowdy midnight shows with people yelling and throwing things sounds awful. Aside from 'Don't Dream It, Be It', RHPS gets worse as it goes along. Not terrible, but it front loads its stronger numbers, and everything sorta peaks with The Time Warp. Our POV characters are a bit meaningless, the twist sorta comes out of nowhere, the 'hero' bites it ... it almost feels like the ending to Holy Grail. Audience participation can be fun for the participants, and entertaining for viewers, but often feels ossified. At one point all of it was fresh and a bit inventive, but sometimes it feels like an MST3K episode where everyone is slavishly following the riff track. Maybe this is a feature/bug issue for some - the same rituals that bring people back to church week on week bring people to RHPS, but I prefer to maximize slack within any structure. Still, I'd rather go to service at midnight than Sunday, or any morning, and while I rarely choose to go on my own, I'm almost always happy to go with someone else, and to drag a potential convert or two to a show. All that being said, I love the soundtrack, and singing along with everyone, no matter how terrible we are, is fun. Science Fiction/Double Feature is a great intro, and better in the live shows when the ushers just start into it to the surprise of most virgins.
