So apparently LSU is going all out for us. They're flying our team in on their planes, hosting a free tailgate for fans and since it's technically a SOuth Carolina home game the LSU band is learning our fight song and alma mater and the stadium is gonna play both our intro video and Sandstorm... good on ya lsu. Now please don't beat us too bad... That's pretty cool Hawk, especially considering they also have to give all the gate to South Carolina too, right? College sports gets a lot of those kinds of things right, if only they could get past that whole blatant exploitation of athletes and athletic departments wielding entirely too much power over universities business. well that, but they're also donating all profits (after operating costs) to the relief effort

This is the greatest sacrifice. I will never understand what makes a university fandom adopt a song that has absolutely nothing to do with them like this, or Wisconsin with "Jump Around", or Virgina Tech with "Enter Sandman". Is it because "Sandstorm" came out in 1999 and South Carolina lost every game that year?

Is it because "Sandstorm" came out in 1999 and South Carolina lost every game that year? They had been trying a variety of songs but the combo of this game and the song just clicked (i was at that game in the student section and it was fucking bonkers in that stadium)

Look at my preview, i didn't even mention Utah. Who knew? It makes my Twitter timeline an absolute blast. Being that I live out here in the heart of the Pac-12, the vast majority of the people I follow are fans of one of these teams. So, so, so, so, so glad I don't bet on these games. This is the most fun I've had watching this conference in years! I think a coin flip would give you better odds of predicting the outcomes than using any knowledge of football would. Or, just pick the road team, apparently? Should I pick Cal to beat Utah? 2016 Pac-12: A New Definition of Parity!

Tennessee showing they're not the only ones who know how to blow a commanding lead by not playing for half the game.
Our record-breaking, would-be Heisman contender is seriously injured in the first 30 seconds of play.
Our receiver drops a tying pass falling right on his chest with no defender touching him.
Our special teams fumbles two returns, pulling one into a TD and the other into an opposing TD.
Mark Richt actually shows emotion not once but twice, smiling and raising his arms, and chucking his headphones. He's such a good guy, he always tries to keep embattled SEC coaches employed.

Yikes. Sarkisian very well might have coached his last game at USC. Maybe they should have given Ed Orgeron the job permanently, after all.

After Pete "When the going gets tough, the tough runs away," Carroll, followed by the Kifkining, USC had had some shitty luck at head coach. So we all think the Irish are just going to beat them with their big jewelled shillelagh?

So, less than 48 hours after taking undisputed control of the SEC East, Florida announced that starting QB Will Grier will be suspended for the next 12 months after testing positive for PEDs. Had the punishment come down a few days earlier, Saturday night's game against Mizzou would have been the Suspended Starting QB Bowl (incidentally, it looks like Missouri's Maty Mauk will remain suspended for this week's game against Georgia). The Gators should still be the favorite to represent the division in Atlanta, since they currently have a 1.5 game lead over Kentucky (and hold the tiebreaker) and a 2-game lead over Georgia, and have yet to play Vandy and South Carolina. But should Florida lose to LSU this weekend and then lose to Georgia on Halloween, the left-for-dead Dawgs (whose remaining SEC schedule looks far easier than Florida's) might just be back in the hunt.

So Will Grier suspended for PED. Are we surprised? Remember the week leading up to the Ole Miss game? He had the shits all week. Then he comes out and throws four touchdowns in the second half. Imodium is good, but...
And how about Spurrier? Who just decides to retire in the middle of the season unless it's health related?

I mean Spurrier would totally be the type to decide when he's done regardless of the time of year. Silver lining I guess is we'll lose less recruiting time, depending on when we make a new hire, then we would have if he left at the end of the season...

I kind of think he'll be gone at the end of the year.

I know this year's been bad, but it's not like the program is in shambles or anything, right? In theory that should be an attractive job for another good coach to come in and hit the ground running. Or maybe they'll just promote from within Spurrier's staff?

We have brand new facilities, passionate fans, proven success, regular nfl talent and a much larger media footprint. People used to say you cant't really recruit there (and some still do *cough* clempson/our sec rivals) but even beyond my obvious bias I truly don't believe that's true anymore

I figured Spurrier was going to retire after this season, but to leave in mid-October? We've now had four FBS coaches get fired or resign since Saturday. This feels like it has to be some sort of record for a week in the middle of the season.

Oh god, how many jobs is Chip Kelly's name going to be attached to between now and the end of December? all Yep. I've already read one article saying that USC's first call should be to Chip, and an article that says Maryland's first call should be to Chip. I'm sure there's articles out there that already say USC's...er, South Carolina's first call should be to Chip. Probably the only reason I haven't read anything saying that North Texas should call Chip is because the notion that he would leave the NFL to coach a C-USA school is Onion-level ridiculous.

There's always that one yahoo on the message boards that truly believes something along the lines of "If Nick Saban were really a great coach he'd prove it by trying to make North Texas/Iowa State/other perennial bottom-feeder a winning program!" I always get a kick out of that, much as I might wish things actually worked that way.

College Football Thread Sorry this is late, I was golfing with my dad. He had 101, I had 117, but the score is really never important.
Washington @ USC Washington's Myles Gaskin had a great game running for 134 yards and a touchdown. Cody Kessler threw two interceptions, but losing 17-12, is the least of USC's problems. Coach Steve Sarkisian was indefinitely suspended after showing up to a Sunday team meeting hammered. On Monday, he was fired.
North Carolina State @ Virginia Tech Hokie quarterback Brendon Motley threw three touchdowns in Friday night's win 28-13
Georgia Tech @ Clemson Dabo Sweeney wants everyone to stop using the phrase "Clemsoning" to mean "doing very well, but then completely fucking up." Dabo, you know how to fix that. Deshawn Watson threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns and Wayne Gallman ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns, so they haven't Clemsoned yet, but they might Clemson later this year. 43-24.
Arkansas @ Alabama For a while, it looked like another upset, as Arkansas lead 7-3 at the half, but Alabama scored 24 points in 17 minutes, including an 81 yard touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley in the third quarter from Jake Coker. Coke had 262 yards as Alabama wins 27-14
Florida@ Missouri The Gators continue their rise as Will Grier threw for 208 yards. Missouri was led by Drew Lock in his second start following Maty Mauk's indefinite suspension, throwing two interceptions. Florida 21-3. Speaking of suspensions, the Gators announced on Monday that Grier will be suspended for ine calendar year for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.
LSU @ South Carolina Due to flooding, the game was moved to LSU, and by all account, went above and beyond in welcoming the Gamecocks. On the field: a different story. Running back Derrius Guice ran for 161 yards and a touchdown, Leonard Fornette ran for 158 yards and a touchdown, and Darrel Williams ran for 61 yards and two touchdowns. South Carolina could not withstand the assault and fell 45-24. And on Monday coach Steve Spurrier announced he was retiring immediately.
Georgia @ Tennessee Nick Chubb went out of the game early with a knee injury, he is scheduled to have surgery in two weeks. Joshua Dobbs had an impressive game, throwing for 312 yards and three touchdowns, but also running for 118 yards and two touchdowns as Tennessee finally closed, 38-31.
Oklahoma State @ West Virginia Even though West Virginia's Mason Rudolf threw for 3 interceptions, they still managed to beat Oklahoma State 33-26 in overtime.
California @ Utah Cal's Jared Goff threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw five interceptions. Devontae Booker ran 222 yards and two touchdowns. Utah continues to lead the Pac-12, 30-24.
Baylor @ Kansas It wasn't even close. Seth Russell had 246 yards and three touchdowns and Shock Linwood had 135 yards. Baylor 66-7.
TCU @ Kansas State Kansas State was leading 35-17 at the half, but TCU made some adjustments. Treyvone Boykin threw for 301 yards, ran for 124, and was responsible for four touchdowns. TCU survives 52-45.
Oklahoma@ Texas Most people thought the Red River showdown was going to be all Oklahoma, all the time, but Texas's D'Onta Foreman ran for 117 yards, Jerrod Heard ran for 115 and the defense had 6 sacks. Coach Charlie Strong donned the Golden Hat trophy and lives to fight another day. 24-17.
Miami @ Florida State The Nole's Dalvin Cook was healthy this week and ran for 222 yards and two touchdowns. The Hurricanes didn't go quietly, as Brad Kaaya threw for 405 yards and three touchdowns, but the Noles retain bragging rights for another year, 29-24.
Northwestern@ Michigan Michigan's Jehu Chesson started the game with a 96 yard kickoff return, and that started a 38-0 rout of Northwestern.
Navy @ Notre Dame The Irish kept performing at a high level with Deshone Kiser 281 yards and a touchdown and C.J. Prosise ran for 129 yards and three touchdowns. 41-24.
Elsewhere in the league: Ohio State beat Maryland 49-28, Ole Miss took care of New Mexico State 52-3, Iowa beat Illinois 29-20, Penn State wins over Indiana 29-7, and Michigan State escapes Rutgers 31-24.
Next week: Auburn @ Kentucky, UCLA @ Stanford, Michigan State @ Michigan, Oregon @ Washington, Boston College @ Clemson, Louisville @ Florida State, Pitt @ Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech @ Miami, Missouri @ Georgia, USC @ Notre Dame, Penn State @ Ohio State, Alabama @ Texas A&M, Florida @ LSU, Oklahoma @ Kansas State, and Arizona State @ Utah.
