Clemson vs Alabama NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME I'll be honest with you. I missed the first half of this game due to rehearsals. I came into the game at halftime, where the two teams were tied at 14. What I saw in the third quarter were two teams going back and forth. It took something to shake it up. Nick Saben knew he was going to continue to have a hard time containing Watson. So they pulled a surprise onside kick.
So up to last night, I was convinced that an onside kick had to touch an opposing player before it can be recovered. I was wrong. As demonstrated Monday night. This was the play the changed the game and let Alabama go ahead. While the Tigers kept pace, they were now behind and constantly playing catch up. In the end, there just wasn't enough time. Tide rolled 45-40
Some numbers: Deshaun Watson threw for 405 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 73 yards in a phenomenal performance. Jake Coker threw for 335 yards and two touchdowns and Derrick Henry rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns
Oh and the buses left Lane Kifkin behind, which is just funny
North Dakota State beats Jacksonville State 37-10 to win the Division 1 Championship
Elsewhere: Bill Snyder announced Monday that he will return for a 25th season at Kansas State. Southern Utah announced the promotion of defensive coordinator Demario Warren to head coach
Here are some video highlights for the season:
So... national signing day is February 3rd... the NFL Draft is April 28... guess we'll do this next year!

Screw you Alabama! I took great pleasure in falling asleep after the onside kick and missing the end of the game.

Like a Kodiak Bear, I emerge from my den. I rub my eyes... "Hey... it's the draft..." I guess I'm interested to see who the Vikings pick up, but my NFL fandom is pretty surface-level and ISU rarely has any big pro prospects so I'm kind of meh on the draft. Beast, do you have any satellite camp hot takes? Our new coaching staff was supposed to co-host one of the Harbaugh/Michigan ones down in Texas and didn't pull any punches on how pissed he was by that NCAA ruling. I would imagine fans of southern schools are a little less bent out of shape over it.

Art Briles out at Baylor. I would assume the sexual assault report will be pretty damning when it comes out, though after Penn State I have zero faith in the ability of any scandal to actually change the culture of college football on campuses.

10 days after Baylor's old stadium was imploded, the program has officially imploded as well.
To my shame, my first reaction when I heard the news was "What will that mean for the upcoming season?" I suppose such a thought is natural, but still, I think that the fact that my, and millions of other college football fans, first thought was about how the firing would affect the program shows why the problem will never truly go away. My first thought should have been about the victims and how, as pathetic and small as the firing it, it can be seen as a form of justice. Instead, I wondered about wins and losses for a program I'm not even a fan of. Scores of football fans still are primarily concerned with wins and losses, and there are plenty of Baylor fans who, in their heart of hearts, would be perfectly ok if the rapes kept happening as long as it meant more wins. And there are plenty of Texas fans and TCU fans and Tech fans and Oklahoma fans who are excited about the firing, not because it represents justice, but because it means that Baylor will likely no longer be a behemoth on the schedule.
Sorry that this is so pessimistic, but I think, as long as winning is valued above everything else, stuff like this will continue. And I see no way to change the culture to make winning not be valued as much.

I somewhat understand the sports media covering the program downfall and not dwelling as long on the actual crimes that happened, but the slew of "Sucks to BU" memes and "oh good, Baylor will suck again" posts just completely ignoring the fact that this isn't happening because of some lame recruiting scandal or other relatively victimless crime is just sad.

Late to the party here, but as a Penn State alumni, I am upset that they didn't learn the lesson. I was hoping what happened to Paterno & co would change things, but I guess more people have to be hurt before people do the right thing.

MarkInTexasAnd now there are reports that there's a faction in the Baylor board of regents that only wants to give Briles a 1-year suspension and then bring him back in 2017. Just my 2 cents Baylor, but if it's 2016, one of the top news stories in the country is outrage over leniency toward an athlete convicted of rape, and you are the school that already had a "one our basketball players murdered another one and then the coach tried to cover it up" scandal, maybe you don't try to weasel your way out of a sexual assault scandal and actually fucking deal with the problem. Just a thought.

Wow.
I hadn't heard that, but...wow. If Baylor wants to retain any credibility as an academic institution, they can't do that. It seems unlikely to happen, but still...wow.

The excuses given for waving away Briles role in this are pretty incredible, I must say. Apparently, it's all Ken Starr's fault, because Baylor didn't have a Title IX coordinator, which means that poor Art had no clear instruction on what to do about all those rape allegations against his players. Why, he's a victim, too!

And who can forget Starr operating Briles like a giant marionette, forcing him to play those guys.

A WILD HAWKGUY APPEARED!! Excited for Saturday to get here and soak in that new coach honeymoon period. No idea if we should expect any noticeable results improvement this year, but the new staff is a notable boost in energy and youth, so apparently there will be some fun new in-stadium bells and whistles this year. Also, apparently week 1 actually has a decent slate of games for once?

I can't believe Penn State is doing a night in honor of JoePa this year. How does that program continue to be that tone deaf?

Even before the Appalachian State game I was wondering when Tennessee got to be a top 10 team. Did something happen in the past 15 years of rebuilding?
Kirby Smart seems agreeably excitable.

Hawkguy Should South Carolina embrace being a basketball school now and switch conferences with Clemson? Discuss. Also whats your opinion on the starters for a team being sat in the 3rd cause they're dominating but being sent out specifically for a curtain call in the 4th?
