Watching Auburn-South Carolina right now. One touchdown for each side got scored in the time it took me to load up the SEC network on my laptop, so it's 35-28 Auburn in the 3rd. The Auburn band just played "Livin' On a Prayer". What the hell is wrong with people. So the refs missed that two Auburn players were wearing #1, which you can't do. I understand that one plays offensive and one plays defense, but why have two players with the same number? Why risk it? Did they run out of numbers? Ugh as if i didn't feel shitty enough about my team going and getting my hopes up that had to happen to place an * on the game and make me think "what if?". Granted we shouldn't have even been in that situation if we hadn't thrown 2 redzone picks or, hell, had made 1 defensive stop...

You know sometimes I forget about Thursday games. I guess Virginia Tech forgot they had a game Thursday night too, because it didn't look like they bothered to show up. It also seemed that everytime they had the ball they turned it over to Miami (well not really, but three times!)
Friday night Oregon beat Cal- 59-41. Mariotta had 5 touchdowns with 326. Cal thratened to make a game of it until Oregon scored 17 points in four minues in the second quarter.
Hey guess what? Did you know you can pick up a lateral and run it back for a touchdown? Davion Orphey does, which he did to help Utah beat USC 24-21.
I couldn't watch the Penn State game. Ohio State had their number in the first half, but Penn State came back in the second. They had to settle for a field goal to tie the game, but then lost in double overtime. Penn State has to win two more games to be bowl eligible, which is really all I wanted since the sanctions were lifted.
But speaking of teams that may not be bowl eligible this season, Michigan lost to Michigan State 35-11. Kansas State shut out Texas 23-0.
TCU manhandled Texas Tech 82-27 with Trevone Boykins racking up 7 touchdown passes.
Heading to the SEC. After taking a dump on Tennessee's program and leaving it in shambles, Lane Kifin returned with Nick Saban's Alabama. Luckily he also brought Amari Cooper. Auburn and South Carolina went back and forth and Auburn intercepted the ball on the last play, even though they had two players with the number 1 on the field which should have been a penalty (did they run out of numbers?) Kentucky kept up with Mississippi State for most of the game until an onside kick was kicked directly into a MS player who ran it right in for a touchdown.
The biggest game was Ole Miss playing LSU. LSU managed to put up a lot of numbers again Ole Miss's defense, but turned the ball over four times and just couldn't seem to score, until they took the lead in the fourth quarter. Ole Miss drove down and set up for a field goal to tie it up, but a delay of game penalty knocked them back five yards to the 47 on thrid down. The offense then took the field to try to get a closer field goal, but QB Bo Wallace saw a man open in the end zone... and threw an interception. Throughout the game the commentars were talking about "two Bo Wallaces" and which one would show up. Since the one we've been seeing is a big old Bubba, I wonder if the other Bo Wallace is sitting in front of a fire wearing a monocle and sipping Lady Grey tea. Afetr the game Heather Cox asked Les Miles about his mother who just died. If she wants to be the Barbara Walters of college football, she should at least have a funny voice.
Arizona State played Washington, but by then I had been drinking heavily and I just plain don't remember it.
Here are my four: Mississippi State, Florida State, Michigan State, and Oregon. Right now there are 13 one-loss teams
Next week: Florida State plays Louisville Thursday night, Florida vs Georgia, Ole Miss vs Auburn, Oregon vs Stanford, UCLA vs Arizona and Utah vs Arizona State. I will not be able to see most of these because like all MVPs, I'm going to Disney World, bitches!

Oh Mississippi teams, you tax me. I'm not at all surprised Bo Wallace threw that final interception, because had been trying to just that throwing into double coverage in the previous plays (one interception lost to a defensive flag, one through the fingertips).
Kentucky and Mississippi State was harder to watch. Sure, I want on of those Miss teams to win the West, and the LSU game was not yet over. But it's also been lonely in the SEC East with just South Carolina for a while now. I wanted something for Kentucky.

As I said last week I was going to Disney World for Halloween, so I didn't get a chance to see a lot of the games this week.
So I'm going to to start with Thursday's game FSU vs Louisville, and the Cardinals gave them a run for their money in the first half, but luckily for the Noles there are two halves in football. Winston and company came back in the second half and won by a comfortable margin. Winston had 3 TDs and 3 Interceptions. Even Steven.
I think everyone thought the Florida/Georgia game was going to be an easy win, just the other way around.
Ole Miss played Auburn, with the winner of the game possibly making the playoffs. It went back and forth for a while, but Auburn pulled off the win, and Ole Miss suffered their second loss and WR Laquon Treadwell a broken leg.
Mississippi State struggled against Arkansas and TCU barely beat West Virginia. Oregon beat Stanford, which has been a problem for them in the past
My Top four: Mississippi State, Florida State, Oregon, TCU
Next week: Baylor/Oklahoma, Notre Dame/Arizona State, Auburn/Texas A&M/ TCU/Kansas State, LSU/Alabama, Oregon/Utah, and Ohio State/Michigan

I saw a sports writer say that Maryland not shaking the hands of Penn state was bush league. Why yes, NCAA football is bush league to the NFL, the NCAA insists that everyone is an amateur, and that there is no room for paying players. So how about you get off your fucking high horse you pompous piece of shit, Peter King.

That was an.... entertaining game ASU played today. The first half, where they absolutely throttled Notre Dame was lovely. The, in the 3rd Quarter they thought they didn't have to play anymore? It was like watching a team in the NFL try to play the "prevent" defense. Then when Notre Dame brought it to within 3, suddenly ASU started playing again.
Leading me to wonder: ASU? If you could explode like that why the fuck weren't you doing that in the 3rd Quarter? All my U of A alumni friends are despondent at this result.
Anyway, this game was payback for Notre Dame trying to weasel out of their contract to play here. Specifically that 4th down sack and subsequent touchdown. That was karma. Ha ha!

Georgia actually showed up for that Florida game long enough to play one half? Could have fooled me.

Alabama vs. LSU coming back from halftime. Verne Lundquist gaves the number of stadium attendance, "plus a couple of youngsters who probably snuck in."
Good fucking luck, Verne. It's obvious that you haven't been outside the press box in a while. College Football is big damn business, and you have to be Houdini to so much as sneak alcohol into a major campus stadium, much less somehow get past an army of scanners, bag-searchers, and security without a hologram-stamped ticket, even in a shit-show like Baton Rouge. NCAA stadiums will someday be the last place you can't bring a gun in the Deep South.

The LSU marching band is playing at the same time as pop music from the LSU stadium speakers. What's the point?

The LSU marching band is playing at the same time as pop music from the LSU stadium speakers. What's the point? Probably just bad coordination between the stadium people and the band. Or the band was playing and got cut off because somebody decided they needed to pump in some extra noise right now. Happened all the time when I was in marching band and I see it happen a lot at Iowa State games.

I'm torn between being happy that Auburn lost and being disappointed that the "SEC West 4-Way Tie of Death" scenario that was being floated around won't come to fruition now. Of course LSU would have needed to win on Saturday as well.

Well, both undefeated teams stayed undefeated. Mississippi State beat UT- Martin handily 45-16. Florida State fell behind early, but capitalized on Virgina's mistakes to beat them 34-20
The nation had a good laugh when Utah's Kaelin Clay started celebrating early, dropping the ball like a boss, but he hadn't crossed the line yet. It sat there on the field of play for a few seconds while Utah celebrated until Oregon's Joe Walker picked it up and ran it back for a touchdown. That pretty much set the tone for the 51-27 defeat
TCU beat Kansas State 41-20 with Trevone Boykin passing for 340 yards. Ohio State suprised us by defeating Michigan State 49-37. Notre Dame tried to make a comeback over Arizona State, but it wasn't enough, the Irish lost 55-31. Baylor beat Oklahoma 48-14.
Texas A&M has not had a good year, but they were good enough to capitalize on Auburn's mistakes. A&M went ahead early, even blocking a field goal and runnning it back for a touchdown at the end of the first half. Auburn mounted a comeback and came within three points until a few botched exchanges killed Auburn's hopes. First Curtis Artis-Payne missed the exchange from Nick Marshall, and on the following possession center Reese Dismukes hiked the ball to his own taint. The Aggies won 41-38.
And then there was Alamaba at LSU. I'll be honest, I was rooting for the Tigers, and as usual it was a close game, tied at ten for most of it. LSU kicked a field goal late in the fourth quater and I thought it was over. How wrong I was. After holding them most fo the game, LSU's defense couldn't keep Alabama from leading a drive to get into field goal range to tie it up. Once in overtime, Alabama had the momentum to win 20-13.
Here are my four: Mississippi State/Alabama (should be stettled next week), Florida State, Oregon, and TCU
Next Week: FSU plays Miami, Geogria plays Auburn, but no one cares because Mississippi State plays Alabama.

Beast, what do you make of the latest rumors surrounding America's Sweetheart Jameis Winston? Why? What did he do now? (didn't see anything on ESPN, just checked) Ok I found it on MSN. Point-shaving? I doubt it, we don't have that much control. It seems like they're throwing anything at him and see if it sticks. If it's true than he's out, but I remain skeptical until more info comes out. But for a while there it had been a few weeks since I saw him in the news

I am really hoping Oregon and ASU don't blow their upcoming cakewalk games. I don't want to see some other team playing for the Pac 12 title. I really want a Pac 12 team in that playoff, but I fear if the Championship isn't Oregon vs ASU then committee will just overlook whichever team wins it.

If there was any real meat to the story, you'd think a bigger outlet would have picked it up and ran with it by now. That being said, I think we're at the point where no story about Winston would really surprise anyone all that much.

This makes me nervous, since I'm going to the Mizzou-A&M game this weekend with my brother (he's an Aggie, I'm a Tiger). Before Saturday, I was fairly confident that we had recovered from the Georgia debacle to have a good chance even though the game is at Kyle Field (again--seriously, this is the 5th straight season we're playing A&M, and 4 of those games have been in College Station. How the hell does that happen?). What's worse is that, since I'm sitting with my brother, I'll be sitting in the A&M section (well, the entire stadium is pretty much the A&M section. I won't be sitting in the Mizzou section). Win, and I'm pretty sure the SEC East title will be ours. Lose, and I'll have to hope that Auburn takes out their frustration against Georgia. Not that I think whoever wins the division has a prayer against the SEC West champ. But I'd still like bragging rights.

OSU managed not to lose the bye. Texas is the best remaining chance to get bowl eligible. Missing a crappy bowl (Heart of Dallas?) would only be a bad thing in that these younglings need more reps. This map of who cares too much about football seems unscientific but nevertheless accurate.
