What if Orpheus only looked backward because he knew damn well Eurydice was prone to not paying attention and walking off in the wrong direction If I was Orpheus, I would have turned back to see if that cute three-headed dog I saw on the way in was still there.

No sympathy. He knew the rules. If he got to the end and found that she wasn't with him, he should have just accused Hades for reneging on the deal.

When you get sun on your arms from wearing short sleeves, it's a farmer tan. When you get sunburn on a sliver of skin above your butt from bending over for hours so you shirt slips up, it's a farmer tramp stamp.

I'm not saying the post service is slow around here, but we just got a Sharper Image catalog in the mail.

Mariah Carey came up in conversation the other day, and my husband said "can most people even hum a Mariah Carey song besides All I Want for Christmas is You?"
And I promptly named a dozen 90s Mariah Carey songs because I was born in 1981.

I went to a restaurant yesterday and when it came time to pay, she said it's cash only. I was like, what? Shouldn't you have told me? She said there's a sign outside. Okay. So I (amazingly) had enough cash to pay the check, and when I was done, I looked at the door and there was a sign saying cash only but it wasn't next to the door opening, and there were about 3 other signs on the door. I normally do read signs but I read the holiday hours sign and just didn't read the others.
My opinion is that they should have told me it was cash only when seating me. Wouldn't that have made sense?
(Also, merry Christmas!)

Something is wrong with the intersectional timeline and interdimensional topography. This afternoon I was searching for replacement bearings for the farm's 40 year old water well pump, when I discovered this: In what universe does Monkey Wards still exist? I'm pretty sure that in our world they went bankrupt and disappeared at least 20 years ago. I consider this proof that time is not simply a flat circle, that it is in fact half a toasted bagel and we are all merely cream cheese smeared upon it's tasty surface.

The reanimated zombie corpses of several formerly massive companies rendered obsolete by technological innovations still shamble around as either online entities, and/or wildly disconnected brand names randomly licensed to unrelated cheap-ass products, often electronics. For example, Polaroid and Bell and Howell still exist mainly in this trademark purgatory.

Apparently it is one of the aforementioned zombie brands that only exist online. Wikipedia tells me that after the company disbanded that its name and trademarks have been sold twice to 100% Online retailers.
That is so strange. What person alive in 2022 would think some online Montgomery Ward was the same as the old brick and mortar store? Like, I'm someone that remembers going to a physical Montgomery Ward store. I know that any online version of this is not the same company. How valuable is the name and logo, really?

I got my favorite hat at their going out of business sale at the State Street, Louis Sullivan-designed location, now Target and I think part of the DePaul downtown campus.
My uncle had what must have been the best adjunct gig of a lifetime in the downtown campus, complete with an office in an old skyscraper with a big window overlooking the street.

I miss Montgomery Ward, and Sears for that matter, simply because so much of their appliances and stuff was bulletproof. I stumbled onto the zombie MW site because I am trying to see if their is any way to replace the bearings and rebuild our 50-60 year old cast iron well pump. I replaced it a couple of years ago as a precaution when the pressure tank it used started to leak, and the brand new, top of the line replacement pump died after about a year. It was still under warranty, so I returned it, dragged the old Monkey Wards one out of the junk pile and reinstalled it, and it ran perfectly until a couple of days ago, when it began occasionally making that horrible screeching sound that means the bearings are finally going out. If I can't rebuild it, it means I will have to go and buy some new plastic and aluminum* planned obsolencense piece of shit. *I started to use a term I have heard commonly describing the low quality metals in many imported products nowadays, but it might be considered racist and xenophobic, so I changed it. I wouldn't have meant it that way, just that so many new products have no durability, but I changed it anyway. Domestically produced products of the same low quality would also be pieces of shit.

The thing about things made in China (or elsewhere) is that they can be just as high or low quality as the company wants. There is *so* much manufacturing there, itβs all about how much money and effort the ordering company wants to put into it.

It's funny to me that it's within our lifetime that "made in Japan" went from suggesting "shoddy and poorly made" to meaning the literal opposite of that.

Should I spend my entire Saturday at an auction just for a chance to bid on a framed picture of Dick the Bruiser?
