You are right, and I misspoke. I did install an aftermarket remote starter on a work truck I once owned. That started died before the truck did, and I never really got used to using it. I have never had a vehicle with factory keyless entry or starting, but then my newest vehicle is a 2000 model. Our last car was a 2000 and had an aftermarket remote starter. That was a joy to have in Februaries. I've never had a remote start (different than keyless start) but my current car is a 2013, and one of the "upgrade package" features was heated front seats - I thought oh, I don't need that, but sure. I LOVE having heated seats in February in Chicago. (I also put takeout on the passenger seat and turn the heating on, ha)

I was incredibly angry when I had to go in Wifemate's Subaru one time and my using the key on the door set off the alarm. Why even have a mechanical lock then!
Oh dear, memories.... My previous car is one I bought used, but it was only 1 year old when I bought it. I always used the keyfob to remotely unlock the doors.
The night before I last moved, I went to a concert with a friend. He drove. And somehow I lost my keychain. No problem, I think to myself. I have a spare key. I'll just unlock the door with the actual key.
NO! The car alarm goes off. WTF? I can't open my door with its own key? I am literally moving out that day! Cannot start my car. Alarm is blaring.
I ended up having to disconnect the battery and have it towed to the dealer where I originally bought it, which was thankfully only a couple of blocks away. They told me the alarm system wasn't the factory installed one. The original owner installed it after purchase. They had not known it was there. They said they could remove it at no cost, if I wanted. And then sold me a used keyfob so that it only cost $30 instead of the $85 they charge for a new one. (!!!!)

Ok UK-ians, help please:
Today I was talking to an 18-year-old, and in the course of the conversation, Kid said that her on-line girlfriend in England probably "wasn't even in the system"* because Girlfriend wasn't doing an apprenticeship ("they're supposed to do that after graduating") and didn't have a driver's license** so Girlfriend couldn't even get, like, a job in a shop.
Obviously things are different in different countries, but "supposed to get an apprenticeship after (HS) graduation" sounds more like a "thing your parents want you to do if you aren't doing higher ed" than a societal requirement, right? But uh... I could see "can't get a job without the UK equivalent of a social security number", but not without specifically a driver's license? orly?
So can any of y'all translate this into American-over-the-age-of-18-ese?
*I did not get into how hilarious it was think there such is a thing as "not in the system", when Girlfriend has a disability of some sort and her parents are getting $$ for her support.
**To be fair, Kid did just say "Girlfriend doesn't have a license" at first, which really threw me, because a license to work was a totally foreign concept, but y'all also have TV licenses (which is also confusing and then specified"driver's license" when I asked for clarification. None of that makes any sense. Hope that helps.

I moved to Canada shortly after the 2000 election, but after the last four years apparently that wasn't far enough away because we're looking at moving out of North America altogether. Although that will likely happen regardless of who wins in November so I can't claim it's because I'm taking some kind of principled stance.

From about December to March that thing made life much more bearable.

Meatheads Have been around for many years. I used a picture of one as my icon for a while. I kind of like them, especially for Halloween, although I have to admit, sometimes the thought of serving one to the relatives at Thanksgiving has given me a chuckle.

Yeah, I have an issue with using meat to sculpt things. It's animal flesh, so unless you're going to lovingly prepare it into food or preserve it, it seems extra disrespectful, like desecrating a corpse.

I accidentally bought cherry vanilla Coke Zero instead of just cherry and it is weirdly reminiscent of vodka. I donβt even drink vanilla vodka.

Vanilla Pepsi and Lime Coke are attempts to cash in on trends even though the two sugars water in question taste different in such a way that vanilla enhances Coke and citrus enhances Pepsi but people are mad that their winning brand doesn't have the same options so sure, have a terrible drink so your team is better.

You know, I can only think of a few explanations for why the dad in I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus is still dressed as Santa long after he and Mom think the singer is asleep, and they're ALL kinky.

From the thread, "At 40 I can still have a laugh about crapping myself. I'm sure twenty years or so from now, when it is a weekly or even daily event, I will find it much less amusing." Now it's just eight years to go...

Pink, candy flavored Mac and cheese..... I need to apologize to my cousin. Just this afternoon he posted this Spaghetti-o Jello casserole topped with Vienna sausages
and I called him "History's Greatest Monster". Now I see how wrong I was.
