Former wrestleman, Shad Gaspard, who went missing on Sunday after getting caught in a riptide while swimming with his son and telling lifeguards to save his kid first. His body was found today. Simultaneously a horrifying way to go and also a moment one can look at and be like, "Goddamn there was a good dad."

Larry Kramer passed away last week. When I first learned about Larry Kramer I was completely in awe of his passion and dedication. I had never seen something like ACT UP which used such aggressive protest techni ques to actually influence public policy. Quite impressive.

Rupert Hine, who wrote, produced and / or performed with Rush, The Fixx, Tina Turner and seemingly half the new wave artists of the '80s, along with writing and performing half the soundtrack for Better Off Dead, perhaps the only good thing Dan Schneider was involved in, and John Cusak's best movie, despite his disavowal of it.

Kurt Thomas. Olympic gymnast and perhaps most importantly the star of the 6th greatest movie of all time, Gymkata.

Kurt Thomas. Olympic gymnast and perhaps most importantly the star of the 6th greatest movie of all time, Gymkata. wow. it seems early for him to die, but, at the same time, I'm kinda surprised he wasn't dead already. No real reason, though.

Fuck no, Ian Holm. One of those actors that always make everything they were in better. "I can't lie to you about your chances but you have my sympathies."

Said this in the Shoutbox but it's crazy how big of a mark he makes as Bilbo when he's really only in the first hour of a 10 or 12 hour series. Perfect casting, perfect performance. RIP.

RIP Joel Schumacher. You made a lot of stuff that wasn't my cup of tea, but you also did "The Lost Boys".

RIP Joel Schumacher. You made a lot of stuff that wasn't my cup of tea, but you also did "The Lost Boys". And Falling Down. A gap in my cinematic viewing history I'm afraid. I have a general sense of what it's about but haven't seen a single scene from it. It came out during a period of the 90s where I saw almost no movies.

The legendary Carl Reiner, at 98. Passed peacefully at home, it sounds like. Stayed sharp and funny to the end.

The legendary Carl Reiner, at 98. Passed peacefully at home, it sounds like. Stayed sharp and funny to the end. I literally just added Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid to my queue right before I saw this. R.I.P. Carl. EDIT: There was a mildly interesting oral history of The Jerk with Reiner, Carl Gottlieb, and others earlier this year. The best part was where they talk about the mansion Navin buys: ELIAS: I was involved in location scouting. I remember the first time we went to the Sheik’s house [the mansion Navin lives in], because that was unbelievable. That’s the way it really looked. That house was just the way it was. It was owned by a Saudi prince’s son, and his son was going to UCLA and lived in this house, so, of course, the house was designed by a college freshman with 40 billion dollars to spend.
GOTTLIEB: I remember walking through it, looking at the billiard room and the clamshell bathtub and all the features. I said to the prop man, “Where did you find this stuff?” And the guy would keep saying, “It was here.”
ELIAS: The guy put up nude statues that hung out by the fence outside and he painted them. And the neighbors, this is in the middle of Beverly Hills, were going bat shit, man. They couldn’t stand it. They burnt it down a few years later. And I think the kid was recalled by his father back to Saudi Arabia for embarrassing the family.

Well now you've got your opening to Ocean's 10.
The gang gets back together one last time at Saul's funeral to pay their respects .... and plan the next job.
