Apparently it's only an urban legend that the singer from eighties funk-rock band Living Colour, Corey Glover, is Danny Glover's son. No known relation.

There's a village in England called Nether Wallop. I can pretty much die happy now.

Near where I live, there are remnants that you can visit of a theme park based on the Red Ryder franchise (comics, radio, serials) which is the source of the BB gun that Ralphie's obsessed with in A Christmas Story.

Today I learned that dreams do come true, because there's a browser plugin for Chrome Vivaldi which automatically converts imperial measurements in to metric. You cannot - cannot - imagine how annoyed I get having to laboriously convert everything from imperial to metric in any recipe with more than a couple of ingredients - and now I don't have to! A small annoyance has been immeasurably improved and I am a happier bot for it.

The phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" only appeared in print in 1977.

Wow, Mexico City feels like it is a long way away from where *I* live. Hard to grasp that Portland is closer to Mexico City than it is to Washington DC.
Though, this nicely puts into perspective how far Alaska is from everything. I remember seeing a great traffic sign when I was in Fairbanks. You know, the ones that list the next closest major city to where you are and the mileage to get there? It was something like "Anchorage 360 mi, Juneau 732 mi, Vancouver 2057 mi". I was definitely feeling like I was in the middle of nowhere when I saw that.

Tasmanian devils (whose Latin name, I never tire of sharing, is Sarcophilus satanicus, "Satanic flesh-lover") are puzzling biologists because the vast majority are picky eaters and not generalists like almost all scavengers.

According to James Cameron, the "give me your clothes" scene in Terminator 2 was shot in a bar across the street from and on the very same night as the Rodney King beating. Really makes the T-1000 dressing like a cop all the more insidious.

Nunchucks became legal in New York State in 2018 after a dude used a second amendment argument about nunchucks in front of the NYS Supreme Court. Switchblades (and other spring assisted opening knives) were legalized in Texas around the same time. There's been a whole spate of legalizing weapons that were mostly "illegal because minorities used them" lately, which on the whole is probably good.

James Madison was only 25 in 1776 as he helped with the Articles of Confederation, he was only 36 when he acted as the "Father of the Constitution" by writing large portions of it and getting it ratified.

My favorite thing Madison did was one of the Federalist Papers where he completely decried "modern" fashion trends for the economic impacts of fickle changes (specifically how all the buckle-makers lost their jobs when everybody suddenly wanted buttons).

Mammals did not evolve from reptiles. The amniotes evolved from amphibians, and from the amniotes came the synapsids and the sauropsids. The mammals evolved from synapsids, while reptiles (and eventually dinosaurs and birds) evolved from the sauropsids.

Today (or yesterday) I read that you can coax earthworms out of the ground by tapping rhythmically, and that some birds will do this with their feet to draw the worms to the surface instead of digging for them. I did not realize there was an earth-based factual basis for the thumpers in Dune.

Today I learned that Galentines Day is a real thing and not just something made up for Parks & Rec, and then I learned that no, that's bollocks, it definitely was just made up for Parks & Rec and a few people have taken to copying it.
It's been a wild ride.

It's been a wild ride. It was definitely invented by Parks & Rec but also it's a good happy thing and we should all adopt it
