Also, since you seem unsure:
ALCS will be Texas Ranges vs Houston Astros
NLCS will be Arizona Diamondbacks vs Philadelphia Phillies

Sorry, I'm not sure. I was at rehearsal tonight so I couldn't actually watch this game. Which is for the better as even in text form I was getting annoyed at Zac Gallen throwing the Phillies hitters 92mph fastballs down the middle.

I watched the extended highlights on YouTube. Arizona definitely made it interesting, getting tying runs on base in three consecutive innings but sadly I guess the Phillies having several more baseball players that I’d heard of than the Diamondbacks helped them win. I really want my dumb prediction that perhaps this would be the year that Arizona wins the World Series, a prediction that I made way back after their first win of the season, to come true.

Only seven wins to go.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Congrats! Only four wins to go! I honestly don’t think I would care at all about what was happening in the MLB this postseason if it weren’t for keeping up with my improbable D-Backs prediction, and I’m very happy to see them make it this far.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Anytime a Philly team (and their fanbase*) is denied a championship is cause for celebration. Chase Field was nice the one time I saw a game there, so good luck. This might be a rare occasion where I'd want the NL team to win the World Series (though no problems with the Rangers per se, Bochy seems cool, no ill will to Scherzer or DeGrom either). * Possible exception for the Sixers, I don't get the impression their fans are considered noticeably awful/notorious as with Philthies, Iggles and Flyers.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I cannot even believe this is happening! Even everyone here is shocked! The Dbacks players are shocked! Corbin Carroll was asked last night to explain what has happened and he said, "I can't explain it. It's magic." He was asked if he expected to be here and he said, flat out, "no." LOL, exactly, Corbin! I am friends with some of the local writers and media people who cover the Dbacks. All these people, who have covered the DBacks daily for YEARS, are shocked. My goodness, my highest expectation for this team this year was that maybe they could make the playoffs. I was aiming for "Please finish over .500". I really thought they could contend in 2024 and 2025! I said this before, and I am still saying it: The Dbacks even making the World Series is one of the most surprising things I've ever seen in sports!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Anytime a Philly team (and their fanbase*) is denied a championship is cause for celebration. Ha! I am so delighted that the DBacks have emphatically ended that whole "Phillies can't lose at home in the playoffs" nonsense narrative. Media was all, "Oh but Schwarber and Harper!" I'm like, "Media, the Dbacks just played the Dodgers and Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman were 1-31 in that series." Betts and Freeman are better than Schwarber and Harper! See, Atlanta Braves? It can be done! No more excuses for you. Yeah, I have no problems with Texas. I'm sooooooooo happy it isn't Houston. Scherzer was drafted by the Dbacks! Made his MLB debut with the Dbacks. Fans STILL complain about the team trading him. Bochy managed in the NL West for so long, the Dbacks practically consider him an old friend. If Texas wins, then it is still fun because they've never won the World Series.

Here's one of the secrets of why the DBacks are surprising these other teams:
The roster that won 84 games is not the roster the DBacks are fielding in the postseason. These teams, Brewers, Dodgers and Phillies are being misled if they think they are up against an 84-win team.
Sarah Langs has crunched these numbers. Here's one factor: Gabriel Moreno!
WITH Moreno - 94 games, record 57-37 (.606 wp), Runs allowed 4.1/game WITHOUT Moreno - 68 games, record 27-41 (.397 wp), Runs allowed 5.5/game
They play at a .600 pace with their starting catcher! (Who was playing injured to start the NLCS!) GM Mike Hazen may have fleeced Toronto with that trade.
Additionally, the current DBacks bullpen didn't exist until mid-AUGUST. Mike Hazen made it his mission to improve the previously-horrendous bullpen. He traded for Paul Sewald, picked up Thompson after the Rays released him, called up Saalfrank from AAA and actually sent down Ginkel to AAA and then called him back up after some coaching. The season stat will be misleading there. Over the season the bullpen ERA ranked 18th with a 4.22 ERA. As per SI:
So, it is slightly less surprising to me that THIS team is winning. Let's remember, Madison Bumgarner was a starting pitcher on this team in April! (The nightmarish start he made on my birthday in April is what ended up causing the DBacks to DFA him.) They carried Zach Davies on the roster most of the year, and he was never good. The first half season bullpen was horrible.
So, while the pitching situation still isn't ideal, it is a LOT better than it was early in the season.

Woooo! DBacks are not getting swept in the World Series. Ha! Game two was a beat down by the DBacks. They kicked the Rangers asses! Ha! Honestly, they've kinda outplayed the Rangers in both games. Devastating bullpen loss in Game 1.
Have no idea what will happen in the remaining games! I still feel like the Dbacks pitching situation is dicey. But hey, it looks like the Rangers also have a shaky pitching situation. So, who knows?!
I'm just happy the Dbacks are not getting swept.

I live in (a suburb of) Dallas. I was not aware the Rangers were in the World Series until reading a Reddit headline about the Rangers winning the World Series.
I guess the Cowboys are up. Time to make good again.

Interestingly, while Will Smith of the Dodgers is not noted thespian Will Smith, he is what you could call a slap hitter, so that's a fun synergy. He is also not Will Smith the relief pitcher, who the internet tells me went from the Astros to the Rangers organization over the offseason. This Will Smith has now been a World Series winner in three consecutive years with three different teams- Rangers 2023, Astros 2022, Braves 2021. I believe he's a free agent after this season, while he's been about average, I wonder how many teams will want him just as a good luck charm. Also slap-hitting catcher Will Smith won in 2020 with the Dodgers, extending the streak of Will Smith World Series Championships to 4.

Well, thanks but I don't need them. I am elated at the incredible season the Dbacks put together! This exceeded EVERYONE'S expectations.
Saw the GM giving an interview today where he talked about his own expectations for the team and how they blew by them. He is raising expectations for next year to "Make the playoffs". (As in, this wasn't his expectation in advance of 2023.) The notorious cheapskate owner is indicating he might now be willing to spend more money to get a good team. The GM is saying he may be a bit more aggressive in trying to get another starting pitcher and one more good hitter.
This was a freaking GREAT season by the DBacks!

I think they may be my new favorite team! If I move to the Southwest I can't be a Mets fan anymore, I don't think, but I would love to continue rooting for a team that never makes the playoffs and has a terrible owner, so maybe I will be a DBack stan now.

If I move to the Southwest I can't be a Mets fan anymore, I don't think, but I would love to continue rooting for a team that never makes the playoffs and has a terrible owner, so maybe I will be a DBack stan now. Ha! Well, the Dbacks made the playoffs in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2007, 2011, 2017 and 2023. That is within 25 years. So 7/25 = 28%.
The Mets have made the playoffs 10 times in 62 years. Which comes out to around 16%. So, the Dbacks should have a better chance of making the playoffs. That's how that works, right?
They do, however, have a truly miserable owner. Who is notoriously a Trump donor, just to make sure we all know he is terrible. And when we say, "He may spend more money next season", we mean, "he might bring the spending back up to 2018 levels".
So yeah, if you come here, join our bandwagon. Though, honestly, people move here from all over the country and don't give up their home sports allegiance. Which is why the DBacks have notoriously low attendance. And sometimes have visiting fans outnumber home fans. Which probably won't happen next year, due to this playoff run, but it has definitely happened before. At games I've attended.

This week has the MLB awards for the 2023 season. Tonight was the Gold Glove awards. DBacks had 3 nominees.
Two winners! Yay! Congrats to 1B Christian Walker and C Gabriel Moreno.
Tuesday has the Rookie of the Year winners for the AL and NL. Dbacks Corbin Carroll should win the NL award. Only suspense there is whether he'll be a unanimous choice.
Carroll and Ketel Marte are the only Dbacks nominated for the Silver Slugger. Don't expect either to win, but crazier things have happened. Carroll may have a shot since there are three OF winners.
We expect manager Torey Lovullo to have a shot at Manager of the Year, though I don't expect he'll win. We'll see.
NL MVP will be going to the Braves Ronald Acuna Jr. I'll be interested to see how many votes Carroll gets.
Similarly will be watching to see if Zac Gallen gets any Cy Young votes.
