Teti, compulsive grudge-starter he is, starts off the revisionist finale review with "Screw The Naysayers..." Sigh. I want to take his side with this one because the negative comments are overwhelming IMO, but when you look at the reviews, the top comments tend to be positive with a lot more upvotes than the negative ones, so I wonder if the naysayers are more of a loud minority than we realize? Surprisingly, reddit's True Detective subreddit has been relatively positive towards the season. It's been one of the few places where I felt like I could discuss it without having someone tell me my opinion is wrong at least once or twice. They're even the ones who figured out the murderer and identity of the kids iirc.

But I'm not the 'screw the naysayers' type in question here.

Nothing's more aggravating than knowing exactly what you disliked about something, but not being able to share it without either A) killing someone's buzz or B) inciting an argument from a fanboy who can't tell the difference between criticism and hate. If I had to count the times I was leaving the movie with my friends, and even though I'd give it a solid B, I had some problems, and try to list them as diplomatically as possible to silence, only to be broken by "...Well, I don't know about you guys, but I liked it!"

I like the season overall (I appreciate the badly written parts as camp) but Colin Farrell really deserved a better show. Ray Velcoro and his mustache are the best things about the season.

TD Season 2 or Arrested Development's Netflix season, it's the same thing. I go with it while it's happening, this ain't so bad. Then six months later it's out of sight, out of mind. The doomsayers were right after all.

The doomsayers were right after all. Doomsayers definitely weren't right about AD season 4. It was really quite good, it just took some patience (and, to be fair, did suffer from the extended episode lengths), which meant that half the internet was against it immediately. As for being out of mind- as ridiculous as this sounds, it singlehandedly started a meme that's still popular today (the first line of "The Sound of Silence" spontaneously playing whenever something bad happens), and among The Youths, that ain't nothing.

AD season 4 also had a fantastic ending which was the culmination of all 4 seasons, not just that one.
