Lately been listening to weird, new-to-me, prog metal on Spotify, but woke with this in my head today and not sure why. Call Me A Dog

Smacks Tell me of this weird prog metal... that's a category that always gets me attention. Well I was listening to OSI, who is kind of electronic as well, but that led me to Frantic Bleep, who I really liked. And also Opus Dai. A band called RWake which was ok, and the aforementioned Russian Circles. Just kind of delving into the suggestions Spotify is giving me right now. Some of it they have labeled prog is more drone/sludge, and there's not enough time signature changes there for me to honestly consider it prog.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer's self-titled debut. I had that on 8-track! It jumped tracks right in the middle of The Three Fates AND Tank.

Seiken Densetsu 4 OST. I'm not a cool person, I'll admit to this, but it's very pleasant.

Through them I discovered the German electrofolk outfit Qntal, whose name is pronounced exactly like you'd think it is. (Lead singer said name came to her in a dream & she has no idea what it means. Right, luv. Sure.) Will give those bands a spin.

My old 1968 Dodge Charger had an aftermarket 8-Track player installed in it, and actually had one 8-Track tape stuck in it, although since it never worked I don't know what the tape was. I am currently listening to the Spanish language audiobook for 100 Years of Solitude, or Cien Anos de Soledad.

I am watching a production of Verdi's Il Corsaro that I was involved with earlier this year. First time I actually get to see it, having been stuck under the stage the whole time.

The Magnetic Fields- 69 Love Songs Vol. 1-3 This probably could have been condensed down to about 20 songs and have been an absolutely kick ass album where every song is blissful but it has a lot of filler at 3 albums. However, I could listen to an endless loop of I'm Sorry I Love You all day. There are a few songs on there I could listen to on an endless loop, but my favorite is easily All My Little Words. It's also one of the few songs I can pick up a guitar and play at any time. Though I have to sing it a tad higher, as Stephin Merritt is a freak.

Chvrches - "Lies" I'm going to be infatuated with this song for a week or so, I can tell this right now. I can't stop listening to "We Sink" I love the line "I'll be a thorn in your side 'til you die;" that shit is romantic, bro.

It's just a coincidence that I happened to pop open a Murphy's Stout while listening to another James Murphy, but it makes me smile just the same.

Catgun absolutely adores Twin Cinema. "Bleeding Heart Show" is definitely the crown jewel, but that entire album is excellent. That's a great album. But oddly enough not that huge on "Bleeding Heart Show". "Use It" and the title track are my favorites from that.

By some miracle my local library system had "Waking On a Pretty Daze" available, making it the first album I listened to in the year it actually came out in years. It's also one of the very few albums I picked every song from as well. Will immediately get "Smoke Rings for my Halo" out whenever the bastard that has it out now returns it.

Danny Brown - Old
I don't know how/why I kind of slept on this one when it came out. Granted this is still my first listen, but it's probably already my second favorite hip hop release this year after Run The Jewels.

Seiken Densetsu 4 OST. I'm not a cool person, I'll admit to this, but it's very pleasant. I thought that OST was kind of bland (at least compared to the soundtracks of FF VI and Chrono Trigger); Meridian Child is fantastic though. Alex Burkat - Shower Scene (John Talabot mix)Also, everyone should pay more attention to John Talabot.
