Hold on there fella, Rubberneck is a great album. I think so, too! But apparently you and I are the only ones... I still hear Tyler on indie radio...

I heard "Two Princes" while eating lunch in a Subway the other day. I thoroughly enjoyed the song AND my sandwich.

I heard "Two Princes" while eating lunch in a Subway the other day. I thoroughly enjoyed the song AND my sandwich. This first album I ever had to buy twice! (A CD to replace the tape.) Don't be ashamed, unless you also enjoy the subsequent album and live album, two cassettes I did not bother to replace.

I'm supposed to be ashamed of really liking Taylor Swift, but I'm not. However, I'm deeply embarrassed by listening to "I Really Like You" over and over all day.

I never liked any hair metal (and very little dilapidated metal in general) but for some reason I really liked Ratt's "Round and Round".
Also, I find Uncle Milty completely unfunny, even if he is hung like a horse. And this video is unwatchable.
It could be how the song's structured - I figured out a while back that I seem to like songs that are mostly in a minor key but modulate to major and back.

You all know what Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" sounds like. I'm not linking it.

Taking it to the Matthews Bridge I can't profess to be a big Bizkit fan, but I have always liked this one. It probably helps that the video guest stars my long-time girlfriend.

Did I ever tell you guys how much I like Nicki Manaj?
I really like Nicki Manaj, guys. Yes, even Stupid Ho. Yes, even Anaconda. Yes, stop looking at me like that.
Also, dubstep hits my tinglies. Yes, even Skrillex, though his stuff lacks the drop of the base.

Oasis. I really like Oasis. There's something about shameless distorted arena rock performed by snarling assholes that I really enjoy.
I think a remastered version of Be Here Now would easily be a top 10 album today if they hired a producer (that is 10 years free of cocaine at minimum) to filter out much of the "excess," i.e. starting a single with 40 seconds of Morse code. This version could be at least 15 minutes shorter.
Don't Believe the Truth was a perfectly acceptable pop/rock record and is still quite listenable.
Actually, I kinda like The Gallagher solo stuff too.
I'm so sorry.

I look forward to your recording of one or both of those Minaj songs.

The other day I was going through my music library and realized that I own seven Barenaked Ladies albums. Seven. Honestly, there's actually some good work to be found around the "One Week" "If I Had a Million Dollars" crap. I also love those songs. God help me. I absolutely, unabashedly love the Barenaked Ladies. I've never understood why they anger some people so much. That's my favorite line delivery in a pop song outside St Vincent's sardonic "Yeah?" from "Digital Witness." That bit is fantastic! She really knows how to make a throwaway interjection memorable. ...I find the "y'know"s in "Huey Newton" far more arousing than I can justify.

I'll allow it. And I admit, Minaj had my love mostly for her sweet rhymes. Girl can spit, she's witty, and I love her various personas. I wish the biz was more friendly to a lady who raps more than sings. The battle between her and Eminem on her Pink Friday album is my most listened to track of hers. (Though I think her voice is just fine, too).

Look, I know his music is overly-sentimental pap. I get it. He is one homely motherfucker, yet every ditzy indie chick wants him to wash her hair in an antique copper tub, then gently braid it, with sprigs of lavender woven through their silken locks. I know. But ugh, I still like his music a little bit. Ugh. Ice Cream Planet will appreciate this, because some people like Springsteen covers more than the average bear. Update: waaah, the video won't work. You'll just have to settle for a link.

While sapped of the passionate angst and urgency of the original, and reduced to a languor that I think detracts from its emotional impact, it's a nice rendition. I have to accede to Christgau's assessment of For Emma, Forever Ago: 'solitary meditations, which lose definition faster than an angel's breath on a January morn'. I thought it contained some lovely passages, but not enough to sustain me. Couldn't find much use for Fleet Foxes and the like either. But de gustibus. A lot of smart critics like him a lot.

Bon Iver is the best.) I have to accede to Christgau's assessment of For Emma, Forever Ago: 'solitary meditations, which lose definition faster than an angel's breath on a January morn'. Honestly, I think the self-titled album is a lot better than For Emma. It's the sort of music that's very easily mocked by those inclined to cynicism, but I find it to be really beautiful. Sometimes it's nice to ignore the hipsters and just sincerely love something. That said, I definitely get that it might not be for everybody.

I don't object to the lyricism by any means, his just isn't to my taste, regardless of what anyone else thinks. As I said, a lot of very thoughtful people admire him a lot and those albums were well received critically.

I wasn't referring to either of you, but just the general ease with which people tend to dismiss music like that. There's nothing wrong with it not being your thing, didn't mean to come off like I was bashing your tastes!

All of the '90s alt-rock also-rans--Better Than Ezra, Spacehog, Toadies, even Everclear, those kings of banality (I KNOW, I KNOW). I am the ultimate connoisseur of mid 90's alterna-rock. I know far more about Better Than Ezra's music than I care to admit. However, I've only ever heard that one Toadies song. "Possum Kingdom"? That song gives me the creeps.
