hi - thad here. no luck getting thru kinja today so here i go.
i keep getting these calf cramps first thing in the morning. like, you know how you just automatically stretch when you wake up? not even thinking about it, just yawn and stretch your arms and legs, still in bed? well, if that happens i feel a pop in my lower back, then a shooting line of pain down my left or right glute, thigh, and then calf, which cramps like an mf'er.
the other day it happened and i screamed and the cat leaped off the bed and ran away. i spent about two minutes digging my thumbs into the calf but *that* weren't working, so i tried to control my breathing and relax it. that finally worked, but i couldn't put any weight on the leg, so i spent the day hobbling about the apartment propping myself up with a six foot dowel i'd previously used as a curtain rod.
uh, that was a digression, wasn't it. hi again.

The best thing for me for leg cramps - which is also sometimes SUPER difficult and painful - is to stretch the muscle in the opposite direction. I get calf cramps a lot, and I have to manually pull my foot up by my pad/toes to counter it. The upside is that it seems to not hurt all day if I do that. |

I am Colin! My hobbies outside of posting are strangling animals, golf and masturbating.
I am a long time lurker who has decided to sign up for the TI much in the same way people in northern Idaho build bunkers: because Kinja is coming for all of us and I need someplace to wait it out with my gold bullion, guns, and dried food tubs.

Hello. I'm a longtime AV Club participant - at least 15 years. A few fellow members clued me into this site just a couple of weeks ago. I'm prone to writing for too long in the AM before going in late to work. Kinja does not appear to be essay-friendly, so I'm trying out this new space. Looking forward to it.

Hey, I'm Anna. Like others, I used to be an AVclub lurker and occasionally (very occasionally) a commenter, though I went by Lily whenever I did post anything.
This forum setup is giving me serious flashbacks, but I think it'll be worth it.

Hello, I'm forever1267, as I was on AVClub, and also new to The Avacado. I like walks on the beach, and going down on-- Oh, wait, this isn't Tumblr.
I've had this moniker since... Fametracker in the early 00's. It's a combination of birthdates and a screenplay and a favorite word. I also chat on PrincessMC board, another Pop Culture board in this same format.
I'll probably be seen talking about television, movies, and celebrities, and less about politics. It's already depressing enough without my cynicism showing up.
I'm still hanging on at AVClub, but, seriously, Kinja just makes no sense for communication.
I also heartily endorse PowerThirteen's avatar, (sigh) and encourage others to do the same. Thank you for creating this!

I am rev_skarekroe. I wish I had the underscore I get to use with Disqus. Welcome to the TI! You can't have an underscore in your username unfortunately, but you can get it back in your display name. Just click on "Profile" on the menu at the top of the screen, then to the right of the tabs that appear when your profile loads, click on the "Edit Profile" button. Then select the "Personal" tab. You'll have the option to change your display name to something other than your username under "Display Name" - just make sure to scroll down to click the "Save Personal Settings" button after you've made the changes you want. As you can probably guess, a lot of people's display names are quite different from their usernames. If you're not on a mobile device, you can see what someone's actual username is by hovering your cursor over their display name. This is helpful both in terms of being able to identify people who frequently change their display names and avatars, and so you can tag someone in a post (which you can do by putting @ in front of their username, so if someone wanted to tag me in a post they would put an @ directly in front of randomdude, which is my username, which would result in Roy Batty's Pet Dove). |
