I may have a soft spot for him because he’s a consistent point producer for me in my fantasy league, which is a great way of finding out who’s an under the radar base-hit source. This is music to my Brewers-fan ears! I read yesterday that Grandal had more walks last year than Manny Pina (ostensible Brewers starting catcher) had singles. Considering how strikeout-happy everyone on Milwaukee's roster not named Yelich or Cain was last season, I'm not even looking for base hits at this point.

Last year he was the #2 catcher by offensive WAR and #3 by OPS (both excluding catchers with fewer than 200 ABs), which is nothing to sneeze at whatsoever. His K rate was maybe a little higher than it could be, but he also walked a fair bit, and overall I'd be stoked to have him in the middle of the order, which is where the Dodgers usually had him. He also pinch-hits pretty well on his off days.

That just seems an insane amount of money to pay for one year. For a guy with a PED suspension in the past.

Following the Braves-Phillies play-by-play in a browser at work, and they have the little headshots of the Phillies due up in the bottom of the first. All three (McCutchen, Segura, Harper) are wearing different caps which I guess says a lot about the 2019 Phillies.

The Rangers have a winning record!
I suspect this will the last time in 2019 I'll be able to say that.

Man, wouldn't it be great if the Cubs continued to suck this bad all season?

Stopping in to say once again, Mike Trout is the best player in the MLB. Dude could retire after this season and would likely get in the HOF despite how stingy voting is. Guy has 8 all star appearances, 2 MVPs(should be more), like 4 runner up places for MVP, 6 silver sluggers, and is already one of the top 100 in WAR all time. He is only 27. Just think of how much better his stats would look if the Angels could actually build a team around him.

Can you even imagine being as good at anything as Mike Trout is at baseball?
He is amazing. I am in awe of how great he is. What a shame the Angels have been so mediocre.

Surprised the Diamondbacks traded Greinke. They still have a realistic shot at the wild card spot, and Greinke was their best pitcher, at least 2nd best player on the team overall. I guess they just can't afford the contract and field a true contending team at the same time. Anywho, if the Astros(barring injuries) actually don't win the world series they should be made a minor league team for a year.

I'm amused to see Blue Jays box scores now, where their first three guys in the lineup are all second-generation major leaguers (Bichette, Biggio, Guerrero) While Vlad Jr. was the one with the most hype entering the season, for the past couple weeks, Bo Bichette has been absolutely raking.

There is no way the Dbacks will make the playoffs this year. No way. I watch their games. "Realistic shot at making the playoffs" is just not true. Not even with Greinke there.

They're only 2.5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot right now, and at +75 actually have the best run differential of any of the Wild Card hopefuls, plus I would say the NL east and central are more competitive right now than the West. I could believe the Diamondbacks sneaking into the Wild Card game, because the other teams just lose a battle of attrition in their own division. Now, would the Diamondbacks make it out of the wild card game and be competitive in the playoff series? That is another thing all together.

Dear Arizona Diamondbacks,
Please stop "leaking" emails you're having with officials in Nevada about relocating the team to Vegas.
The citizens of Phoenix will NEVER allow you to shake us down for tax money to fund a new stadium. We're literally having strikes because our schools and teachers are underfunded. These silly tactics are not going to scare us into suddenly throwing millions of dollars at you because you think a stadium built in 1997 is a dump.
If you want a new stadium in Las Vegas, I'll give you a warm send off, wave goodbye and not feel bad. Go ahead and fleece a neighboring state.
Signed, Someone who really, really, really LOVES baseball, but knows the team is valued at over $1.2 billion, and the owner is extremely rich.

As always fuck the Cardinals and Yankees, and the stros just won it not long ago/would be favorites. All the good teams to root for got knocked out early, though the tomahawk chop comeuppance for the braves was hilarious.

Washington had two chances to keep iterations of the Senators and they blew it twice. It’s ridiculous that they hang banners for the Senators 1933 AL Championship. The Gnats has fuckall to do with that, it should hang in Target Field (if the Twins want it). That said I’m glad the Cards got sent home fully embarrassed and we’ll be spared having to look at Molina’s nasty neck tats till next year. I’m fine with either AL team. I like Houston personally but have money on the Yankees. This particular iteration of the Yanks doesn’t have anyone particularly obnoxious on them to be honest, if there was a way they could win without their fans being able to enjoy it that’s be ideal

Somebody explain to me why that one play in the bottom of the seventh in Game 6 was called interference on the Nationals runner.

Somebody explain to me why that one play in the bottom of the seventh in Game 6 was called interference on the Nationals runner. Seems to me that it was one of those situations where it's a legit rule that does not get evenly enforced. Right-handed batters start their run inside the baseline all the time, rule or no. Game six of the World Series was hardly the time to be draconian, especially given that it was a bad throw and at the moment of contact with the glove Trea Turner was inches from stepping on the center of first base, in the baseline by definition.
This was the very same ump who fucked the Braves on the infield fly rule in the 2012 wild card one-game playoff.

But what even is the infield fly rule? If you play one of the bases, your uniform pants need to open in the front. If you're in the outfield, they can just be pull-ons.

Also, the Red Sox are fucking idiots if they trade Mookie, which they will. How much money does a billionaire even need? Just pay the stupid Luxury Tax and keep the 2nd best position player. There is no way they will ever be able to replace his production, plus JD is just going to walk next year. Only one year of paying the Luxury Tax.
What is the point of owning a sports franchise if when you get the best talent you just trade it away. As long as there is some revenue(which there will be, it's the fucking Red Sox) just go for winning.

Isn't their thought that they'd re-sign him after his year abroad, while also getting a bunch of tasty prospects to stock the farm with from the trade? I don't know -- if I was a Red Sox fan I'd be furious if they traded him, whatever the long-term plan is. But I'm not, so fuck the Sox!
