Oh man, it is fun to see the Lakers lose and lose and lose. I wonder how many games this year they will actuallly win? What's the Vegas over/under on wins for them?..... Looks like 32.5. I'm tempted to take the under.

I'm tempted to take the under. take it. They are terrible, and while Kobe can get 30 a night, it will be on like 30 shots a night as well. They have no one that good. Boozer is the worst defender in the league. Lin needs a good supporting cast. Nick Young is actually really shitty and injured. Hill is decent I guess. And they also play in the west. The over under should be closer to 27.5

Damn, Celtics are blowin' up the Bulls in Chicago! Wasn't expecting that! In the Bulls defense, they were playing their 4th game in 5 nights, they didn't have their MVP, and they still almost came back and won it. Also, their actual defense is terrible right now, and they played like crap for the middle 30+ minutes of the game. They're still better than the Celts.

Heard my favorite stat ever yesterday:
Kobe has now missed more shots than anyone else. Ever. Hahahaha. I hate him. So so much. If my previous posts in this thread weren't indication enough.

deadspin.com/sports-columnist-loses-his-mind-over-derrick-rose-1657998407Fuck this Steve Rosenbloom guy. I never really cared for Derrick Rose(his MVP should have gone to Lebron or Dwight that year), but Rose is completely in the right here. Rose is just trying to make sure he has a future where he isn't a hobbled mess like so many other athletes. Especially having a different perspective when he has been dealing with major injuries the past few years. Rose knows that more than ever now, and I think it is completely fine to sit out games. You don't need the number 1 seed to win a championship, just to make it in the playoffs. Rose can still do his job he is being paid for while also making sure he can still have a normal life at 60.

One of the many reasons I stopped consuming very much sports "journalism." What a piece of crap. Being a Bulls fan, I love Derrick Rose (though I agree that his MVP was questionable, but without him the Bulls couldn't score on a high school team that year). It's a truly silly argument from an unprofessional dope.

Watch this same guy write a column around playoff time about how smart Gregg Poppovich is for managing his veteran players' minutes so they're not worn down when it counts. It is really bizarre how entitled people feel when it comes to athletes. You wouldn't expect anybody else to sacrifice their future quality of life for the sake of their job.

Really enjoyed seeing Derrick Rose and the Bulls play like they're capable of doing tonight. Though the Nets are sort of terrible. Still nice to see.
Then watched the Warriors completely handle the Rockets in the last 8 minutes of their game without having a player over 6'8" on the floor. Steph Curry is so good and just a blast to watch. Fun game.

I hate the Charlotte Hornets. I'm still in the mindset that New Orleans are the Hornets, so whenever I see a box score or a glance at a quick guide listing on tv that just says the hornets. I always get excited that I can get a little something something of Anthony Davis, and instead I'm met with the flaming shitpile that is the Charlotte Basketball team. The basketball team that drafted Adam Morrison, the basketball team that once had a racing checkered flag design for a jersey, the basketball team that has routinely sucked since it became a thing. FUCK YOU CHARLOTTE HORNETS.

And those of us who were smaller kids and thus liked Muggsy Bogues, or at least the idea of him

Might be a blessing in disguise that the thunder didn't get Lopez. Kanter is younger, cheaper, and plays better defense. While the thunder still lack that third offensive presence, Durant and Westbrook could still beat that by sheer offensive talent. The cheaper thing is really important though, because if Adams does keep getting better and outplays kanter, it will only be around 5 mil for a bench player not 15.

I don't get the bucks though, Knight is better than MCW, at least this year.
I like Dragic to heat though. That means Lakers lose a FA target! Yes! Let the Lakers(and Kobe by extension) never have another winning season!
Oh yeah, one last thing I forgot to add about the thunder, they still have Scott brooks as a coach..... That will be their downfall.

My best guess is that Knight has played himself into a bit of a raise this year, but Milwaukee isn't convinced he's the best fit with Jabari and Giannis going forward. So why not pick up MCW and Ennis and see if one of them works out as long-term answer. And I would assume getting Plumlee also held some appeal seeing as Larry Sanders has gone insane.

Interesting that Phoenix shipped Thomas to Boston too. They are pretty much blowing up that backcourt.
Have to wonder what that means for Smart and/or Avery Bradley too.

Knight had one more year left I think, and was only going to be an RFA at the end. I don't see how MCW will be a better fit with Giannis and Jabari, and they are going to be a playoff team. So I think they should go with knight. But maybe you are right, maybe Ennis and plumlee hold that much value for them.

@taxman Knight is probably still better, but I would expect MCW's efficiency numbers to improve on a team where he gets coaching beyond, "Yea throw up whatever shots you want, nobody really gives a shit this year"

He might get somewhat better, but the guy still has like no three point shot in comparison to what Knight has done. MCW even though he won ROY was not really the best rookie, he just was able to put up stats because no one else on the 76ers were last year.
Brad Stevens might be one of the top 5 coaches in the NBA. The Celtics best player the past 2 years was a Rajon Rondo who didn't give a shit, and after that maybe Jeff Green, and hell now it is Marcus Smart after Green being traded. So about as much as the knicks, and yet Boston might crack 30 wins this year, while the Knicks could very well not even get 15. If this team can ever actually have a roster, that would be fun to see for a few years.

After taking the night to mull it over, I have come to the conclusion that it was Jay Cutler's fault.

Just heard the Rose news. As a bulls fan FUUUUUUUUUUCK (This is particularly depressing for me in conjecture with hearing Noah is now 30. Which I know isn't hugely on its own (it's not like he'll suddenly start playing like Kendrick Perkins), but feels representative of the door starting to close on this Bulls core)

This has gone from tragedy to comedy and all the way back to tragedy. The only thing I disagree with is this narrative is that it makes the bulls a lot worse. It doesn't. Derrick Rose was not really having a good season overall. Yes, he was playing better in the past month or two, but still wasn't that great, and shooting close to .400 That's not good. I think the bulls will get as far without him as they would with him. If anything they might be able to spread Rose's usual 15 to 20 shots a game around more efficiently to the rest of the team.

Starting to get the sense for the first time that with this ownership group and this coach, and the recent injuries to Durant and Westbrook, there is a real possibility that the Thunder will squander their title window with two Hall of Famers in the starting five.
This SHOULD be the year. Spurs finally slowing down, LeBron looking human, the Cavs not meshing well, finally getting rid of Perkins (note- I like the guy. by all accounts he is an awesome citizen and teammate, but damn he is on his very last legs as a player). The main obstacles on paper would be A) the annual slugfest with Memphis B) a potential shootout with Golden State C) A respectable fight from either Atlanta or Chicago. Not gonna happen.
Not sure for how long it will continue not happening, and how patient Russ and KD will be.

Damn, you are just now getting around to this? Then again, I feel most OKC fans might be slow to coming to this end point. After the thunder lost to the heat in the finals, in the way they did, and then lost harden. That was when I felt their window was closed, if it had really been open all along. The way Brooks coaches the thunder it really is up to Durant and Westbrook to play as perfectly as they can. They can cruise to being one of the best teams in the regular season that way, but the fact of the matter is in the playoffs that isn't sustainable all the way. 4 series and westbrook and durant have to play their ass off because the rest of the team is kinda not that good and not coached well. This actually may be the best team overall, but I don't know. Even if they sneak into the playoffs all the games missed from durant and others, just don't think the team will know how to play together as good as they can. The best bet for the thunder is to not get memphis, I think they would have a punchers chance against GS because I don't know if their defense can hold up to playoff basketball, whereas the Grizz can. I also think the thunder would likely come out the victor if they somehow make it to the 6th seed and face either portland or houston, but lose the next round.
Oh, and I think the Cavs are working now, they have been so much better in the 2nd half than the first. I really do think they are coming out of the east. Toronto and Washington are on the downturn, chicago even at full health is good but not great, and Atlanta is just not as talented as the Cavs. As far as thunder vs cavs? That would actually be really interesting. I think Lebron has the edge over Durant, but Westbrook would easily carve up Kyrie the way he is playing right now. While both Love and Ibaka have not had the best of seasons. While both Mozgov and Kanter are additions who seem to be doing very well for both teams. JR Smith and Dion Waiters also are very similar players.

JR Smith and Dion Waiters also are very similar players. Everyone knew it was bad after the Heat loss and people are still furious about the Harden trade, but it is really sinking in now because we've realized that the ownership group is completely OK with this. They won't bail on Brooks until he pisses them off personally. They won't ever pay the luxury tax unless there is a season ticket holder walk out. They keep an extremely tight lid on their players in a PR sense (see how quickly Kevin Durant, a guy with an insane amount of leverage on a team, backed off his recent media comments) and seem to be more focused on building an asset that pays out a decent dividend in the form of annual profits than a winning basketball team. That is technically Presti's job but he's got one hand tied behind his back, and that just shows what a great/lucky GM he is. As far as a Thunder -Cavs match up, I think the Thunder have it in 6. Ever since Kanter showed up Ibaka has been completely rejuvenated. He can go back to playing the 4 instead of pretending to be a stretch 5. Dion Waiters is now the sixth man (and his extension is an acknowledgement that Jeremy Lamb isn't working), so he'd be going against the Cavs second unit mostly. Who knows, maybe it could still happen if everyone gets healthy and Memphis gets taken out by someone else. It gives me a headache thinking about what Rick Carlisle could do with this roster, but a coaching change probably won't happen unless Westbrook and Durant publicly turn on him. The great fear is that they stay loyal to Brooks and get sick of the owners, then bail when their contracts end.
