the monroe signing hasn't panned out that well. but, hey, giannis is now playing as point guard ( ?) which is really fun to watch and he's putting up some great numbers lately. jabari is developing into a really good player and middleton is still a beast. all in all they'll miss the playoffs but the core is there and getting better.

The Monroe thing was always puzzling to me. When has "well, this guy doesn't really fit what we want to do, but we feel like we have to make some sort of splashy signing, so why not?" free agent ever worked out well for a team?

There's no way Golden State doesn't advance to the finals again, but I hope the Clips advance to the semis and make it a memorable 7-game series, like the one they had in 2014. (UGH, they're never getting to the WCF, bah)
I rooted for the Warriors in last year's finals, but I hope Cleveland gets that chip this year.
The Bucks, Jazz, Wolves are gonna be formidable a lot sooner than later.
How the heck do the Blazers lose their entire core this season and earn a HIGHER playoff berth than last year?! Evidence of Portland's resilience, and a noticeably weaker western conference, that's how. But much respect, regardless. They're going to be a tough out.
FUCK KOBE

FUCK KOBE Well that and Portland limped through the back end of the season last year with no Wes Matthews and a bunch of other injuries last year. Even if the current core isn't as good as the old one (and they didn't lose everyone, they still have Lillard), at least they stayed pretty healthy this year.

I rooted for the Warriors in last year's finals, but I hope Cleveland gets that chip this year. Funny, I'm the reverse. Last year I really wanted the Hollywood ending to Lebron's return to Cleveland, and hated Golden State with a passion. Now I've soured on this Cleveland team and would feel happy with Golden State starting a dynasty.

For the record, I was on the Steph train since 2014, when he torched my team with an 87% True Shooting Percentage during all their matchups. I said he'd surpass Ray Allen as the greatest NBA shooter and that he was a sure HOF'er down the line. I still somehow managed to underestimate him. I have some Cleveland buds, and I just want them to finally win one.

Just saying, they had every excuse to phone it in this season, and instead they fought their way back into the postseason. That's admirable, is all.

Looks like the Wolves are going to Thibs as their new coach. It's weird to think they might soon be legit good again for the first time in over a decade.

Inexplicably, the Wolves do not play in the Central, but the Northwest with such noted geographic rivals as Oklahoma City, Portland, Utah, and Denver.

My NBA nerd dream is the following: -Ditch the current play-off bracketing and go to straight 1-16 seeds based on overall league record -Blow up the conferences and divisions and go to the following schedule pods/divisions: -Pacific: Blazers, Kings, Warriors, Clippers, Lakers, Suns -Southwest: Jazz, Nuggets, Thunder, Spurs, Mavericks, Rockets -Midwest: Timberwolves, Bucks, Bulls, Pacers, Pistons, Cavaliers -Northeast: Raptors, Celtics, Knicks, Nets, Sixers, Wizards -Southeast: Grizzlies, Pelicans, Hornets, Hawks, Magic, Heat -Teams play 4 games in their pod, 3 games with their "neighbor" pods (alternating which pod has the extra home game each year), and a home-and-away against the rest of the league. Pros: Eliminates the stupid 'weaker conference' issues for who gets into the play-off each year; gets rid of the dumb northwest division, hopefully allowing some new regional rivalries to flourish; cuts two games off the absurdly long NBA schedule in a sensible way, alleviating some of the issues with frequent back-to-back games Cons: Still has some issues with uneven scheduling with regards to playoff seeding, lottery odds, etc., but not as bad as before; loss of 30 games worth of TV content and general out-of-the-boxness means it will probably never happen.

Chris Paul just had his yearly playoff injury, and is out for the rest of the postseason. Sigh.

I've gone to at least one Bulls game every season the last several years. I might not next season, because I fear at a random point in the game without provocation I will start to sob uncontrollably.
I think the Knicks will be a fun team though.

Are Bulls fans actually that sad about losing Rose at this point? I know it wasn't a great haul, but from the outside looking in, I'd think Chicago would be happy to have a clean break from that albatross.

I guess I can't see being that bummed about moving on at this point unless you were expecting a wizard to come give him a new set of knees/ankles/whatever else he's broken by now. It makes sense for the Knicks to take a flier, but he's just not going to be the guy you can build around anymore.

It's not that and most of them acknowledge that he's not going to lead them to a championship. They know this is Jimmy's team, but it's still sad to see a Chicago kid who loved this city leave. At this point it's more like shipping off a mascot who used to be insanely talented.

Everybody wins? I honestly think that makes the clippers and cavs worse in the short term. As well as the fact kyrie is a better long term bet than Paul. And there is no way westbrook stays in LA, where they still have a shot with Griffin.
