There is still room on the Kings bandwagon! We have Jeff Carters continued playoff success that can piss of Flyers fan, or watching Gaborik do good for the Kings to piss off Rangers fans! And who doesn't love the extremely articulate Darryl Sutter! You can even follow along with the best hockey twitter account @lakings. And then there is this I'm all over jumping on the Kings bandwagon! I mean, like any sane and normal person I can't cheer for the Sharks (I'm not sure I can live in a world where the Sharks actually win in the postseason; isn't that a sign of the apocalypse?), and on top of that I love Mike Richards. He's one of my favorite players in the league, which made things very uncomfortable for me as a Devils fan back when he was a Flyer (although he was much more noticeably awesome a player in those days, to be fair...). I was accused at times of being "too orange" for my own good. Thank heavens it's safe for me to cheer for him now! (Plus, any success for Carter and Richards is further egg on the Flyers organization's face. GO KINGS!) Also, Bailey is awesome. And Anze Kopitar is like the raddest raccoon ever. Yeah, I'm very much in favor of the Kings.

Thanks SensitiveSethPutnam. Yeah, the crash of the Coyotes was painful. Losing Mike Smith at the end of the season did them in. They can't win without top tier goaltending. Once again, for the second year in a row, they finish within a handful of points of the playoffs. Truly sucks.

Everybody whose teams didn't make the cut and are looking for an eastern team are welcome aboard the Rangers bandwagon. In the west I'd actually like to see Dallas make some noise, but I'm sure they'll be bounced in the first round. I feel like I should cheer for Montreal as the only remaining Canadian team, but cheering for Montreal is always wrong.

Hey, the Panthers got the first overall pick! Good for them, I suppose? In other news, my Canes pick 7th overall, after yet another frustrating year, and the Devils didn't lose their first round pick somehow, but pick 30th in a weak draft class, so that's punishment enough, I suppose.

I'm just happy the Devils didn't win the lottery (which was apparently a possibility, after which they'd just redo it until the Devils didn't win), because I would have gone on a killing rampage. I mean, I'm glad for the principle of having a first-round pick restored (since it's not like there aren't other teams that have flat-out openly admitted to cap circumvention [*cough*Ottawa*cough*] since the Kovalchuk contract fiasco), but it would have been a devastating gut-punch if we'd had to go through a charade of "oooh, look what a great pick it could have been!" Anyway, sorry the Canes didn't get a better pick. I haven't paid super-close attention to this draft class, but I'm kind of under the impression it's about one guy deep.

What was the last defenceman taken number 1 overall that was really worth it? If I were Florida I'd probably trade down to number 3 or so and let someone else grab Ekblad. Or even trade it for a high pick next year. I admit to not really paying much attention to drafts/prospects, but my understanding is that next years draft class is supposed to be quite deep.

The first round of the NHL playoffs truly is the greatest thing sports has to offer. I'm especially excited for them this year because my interest really waxed and waned throughout this regular season (still suffering from lockout burnout), so I'm not sick and tired of most of the teams. I'm partial already to the Ducks and Lightning, so you can count on both teams being swept, but other than that I'm trying to be open-minded. Come on and try to win me over, all you other playoff teams!* *Okay, let's be realistic -- all you other playoff teams that are not immediate geographical rivals of the Devils. Yeah, an asteroid is welcome to fall on the arena during any of the Flyers/Rangers games. Sorry, SensitiveSeth. It's just the truth. And then there is this Gabby's success wouldn't piss me off, I loved his time here and I wish nothing but the best for him. Carter and Richards can go die in a fire though, they can't wash that Philly stank off.

Dammit, Hawks. X2
Each of these games burns in their own way, but two in a row like this? Plus losing Seabrook? (Love the guy, but that was an awful hit). GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Oh, wait -- he just did what for my team? I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THAT GUY! WOOOOOOOOO!" And my deepest apologies to Lightning fans out there. Sorry I jumped on your bandwagon and then had... that all happen. Probably my fault.

It was the some of the best fan trolling I've seen in the NHL since this Steve Sullivan incident a few years ago.

Hockey Playoffs? I have no clue what those are. What is a puck? Are goaltenders people who let goals into nets? Is this a real sport, or am I being Punk'd?

I was all excited to get really into these playoffs, I'd lined up a bunch of secondary teams I could cheer for... and this is going to be a short-lived enthusiasm at the rate things are going. I'm started to get like, "Hockey? Yeah, whatever. The World Cup's starting soon..." again. So, to all the real fans of all the teams I bandwagoned on, my apologies.

Wooo, not a sweep. At least I can take solace in that. Now the next 48 hours will be me two sides of me fighting. A. Me talking myself into a 3-0 comeback, and B. me trying not to get my hopes up for something that is HIGHLY unlikely. A will probably win, and then A will be crushed. FUCK YOU, A ME!(preemptively).

Because I am an old, old lady, I can't stay up late enough to watch those Pacific Time Zone games. So I was obliviously sleeping through the latest awesome San Jose chokery. Early this morning, as I was dressing to go to the gym, Hugs knocked on my door and announced, "Sharks lost." And rather than reacting with a gobsmacked, "Are you kidding? Unbelievable!" my reaction was much more, "Well of course they did. Everything feels right in the world." (I don't even dislike them, for the record. I just don't know if I want to have to adjust to an NHL where they actually win shit.)

Well, I'd say the Kings' trade for Gaborik justified itself with his performance tonight alone.
