Don't say that. What about all of the joy you've brought to the children, but more importantly all of us lonely souls? I suppose you are right. Much like those bastions of hope and inspiration, the Wu Tang Clan; Nudeador Viking the Third, is nothing if not for the children. Plus you can take solace in knowing without doubt that if the Commies DID happen, you'd sweep them!

Plus you can take solace in knowing without doubt that if the Commies DID happen, you'd sweep them! hands down. My Dear Lord Nudeador, Putting pen to paper in order to write your contrivances have been for naught, and by logical extension raising the spectre that you will call them to a halt, has filled me, and I'm certain all my fellow shirt-waist craftsmen and craftswomen, with deep despair. Well, even if GaryX isn't going to do the Commies anymore I'm sure SOMEone will step up and selflessly put in hours of free labour to help provide recognition of the talents of others. *crickets riding on tumbleweeds drift by, pedalling their legs backwards furiously, like mighty log rollers, to keep atop the tumbleweeds* **crickets get poached by The Dissolve**

I've found a new commenter with a username/avatar that I like as much as DipsterHeBag: over in the Doolittle comments, "Brer Rarebit", who has an avatar pic of a woodcut of Brer Rabbit punching the tar baby.

Are there reverse commies? Like for the worst comments? Cause I nominate this one:
clytie Dikachu β’ 2 hours ago Except the kid with the toy gun nobody but cops had guns. Cops might be less loathe to act like bullies if more people were armed. I remember when the Columbine massacre happened, the police stood outside while people bleeding to death. Then when Michael Moore asked one of the cops why they didn't enter the cops said they were scared of being shot. Of course.

I assume not by sitting down sometime in November and going through several thousand comment sections? So, I guess it was a process of collecting "Nominees" over the course of the year. And if so, isn't it too late to start now? Maybe we can save the Commies by making it a group effort? Yes, I hear your boos and hisses but hear me out on this: We make this the official nominee thread. It's a little thin by now so let's say we all take the time over the holidays to reflect and maybe go through one's favorite articles of the year and find, with a little luck, some undiscovered gems. Also, we put in our nominations for the personal awards, like best/worst/most improved commenter so that we have a meaty list of nominations in January. Then we vote. In polls. All fair and transparent. OR we do like a proper award: We elect a committee of about 5 persons. They then decide in secret per PM and announce the winners. Think about the DRAMA we could have here! Here's the list of last year's Commentariate Categories: Most Downvoteable Commenter The Unicorn Best Reoccuring Commenter Post Meme of the Year Best Username/Avatar Favorite Gimmick/Character Account The Biastoic Overly Informative Commenter Award The No Longer Named ************* Because It Weirds Him Out Kind Commenter of the Year Most Improved Commenter Best Comment β Comedy/Musical Best Comment β Drama Commenter of the Year There are also the AV Club Awards with normal categories like Film of the Year and more fun ones like most clueless reviewer. I don't know if we should also do these? And yes, I know that I basically just said that I will put effort in this. So, yeah, I'd be ready to read a lot over the Holidays and come up with nominations and also do other stuff to help, but I am bad at internet and organizing things in general. So no, I can't do this alone. How about that TI'ers? Approval, suggestions, rotten fruit?

Someone may want to contact garyx though, just so we know for sure he is not doing anything this year. We can probably steal a lot of his graphics if he does not mind

Can I suggest a Best New Commenter category? (Although I suspect Abradolf Lincler has that on lock.)

If I were running the commies, I'd have people list their top 5-10 commenters for the various entries, though my intuitive math senses suggest that it'd be more difficult that way. Also, I would take out the "most improved commenter" category, as that's a backhanded sort of compliment if I ever heard one. I'd also take out the most downvoteable category, because every comment is sacred (or, perhaps more accurately, I'd rather the event was about praising people than kicking them).

Though this year did expose some troubling MRA tendencies among some of the regulars. Then again, probably better to be positive rather than negative.

garyx was tagged here, and I asked him at the AVC: www.avclub.com/article/tell-us-about-your-pop-culture-weekend-december-12-212938#comment-1742745665so let's see if we hear from them. If someone gives me the data I can help with online polls and maybe even a basic website, I am just not creative enough for the graphic design element.
Well, you're in for the ride now nowimnothing , so when the categories and nominations stand I/we might call you up on that. Can I suggest a Best New Commenter category? (Although I suspect Abradolf Lincler has that on lock.)

I'd also take out the most downvoteable category, because every comment is sacred (or, perhaps more accurately, I'd rather the event was about praising people than kicking them). Sukaluski : Yes, i think we should have "Best New Commenter", and maybe there are at least some more we could put on the list so it doesn't look like we're just handing it out to Abradolph. @billyboy : C'mon, let's have a some Razzies in our Oscars, these are the most fun. I'd even like to bring back the category: "Worst Gimmick account that should just go away". You gotta be game for some snark, even if on the TI, comment snarks you! So furthermore I'd like to add the category: "Worst New Commenter" and nominate myself. So, I see a resemblance of a plan beginning to form: We wait a little for GaryX to chime in (say 2 or 3 days) while we fight over the categories. Regardless of their approval/help/silence we then start nominating and set the time frame for the nomination phase

I want to keep most improved commenter. I feel like if I get shut out of the prestigious "Best Gimmick Account" category I could theoretically pick up Most Improved. All I know is I'd better win something because I already put a non-refundable deposit down on my championship belt.

Fine, fine--we can keep the most improved commenter and most downvoteable commenter categories if others are fond of them. The most improved category isn't really that bad, and I can always sit the other category out if I'm feeling unsnarkish. I certainly don't want to create any discord. *pulls acoustic guitar out of own ass, plays "kum by yah"*

You know, I just have to give props for this extended conversation on the social etiquette of interacting with your marijuana dealer. I wonder what Emily Post says about how long you should listen to your dealer's rambling stories before you can leave without being rude.

I have to give my proper respect to some of the older gimmick commenters on the site. Like this one:

Are you guys talking about doing awards particular to this site, or taking over the AVC Commies for garyx? Hoping it's the former, since I really don't go to AVC anymore.

I think they were all comments from AVC. Like this quip, from the Iggy Azalea/anonymous article (the comments from that page are pretty terrible, so wade in at your own risk): Mister Evil β’ 2 hours ago Ah, nothing says "justice" like blackmail!

I don't care if the Commies are dead. I will still make nominations, by gum. Like GreyhoundZero's short story about Whovian's quixotic crusade of downvoting comments that use hashtags:

Flagged. Maybe by a bearer of some sort. Iβm pretty sure Flag-Bearer is one of the people I share a wireless router with, largely because I just found myself banned from the AVC (and also might explain the fixation on me and other bugbears). It was also incredibly confusing to get notifications and then see all my comments removedβI emailed the AVC and then it dawned on me. Now Iβm going to be up all night refreshing my dumb J-LL yahoo mail account hoping theyβll reply/reverse the decision, though Iβm not hopeful.
