Flagged. Maybe by a bearer of some sort. I’m pretty sure Flag-Bearer is one of the people I share a wireless router with, largely because I just found myself banned from the AVC (and also might explain the fixation on me and other bugbears). It was also incredibly confusing to get notifications and then see all my comments removed—I emailed the AVC and then it dawned on me. Now I’m going to be up all night refreshing my dumb J-LL yahoo mail account hoping they’ll reply/reverse the decision, though I’m not hopeful. Some people try to impugn so-called SJW's as being armchair leftists as though they're somehow removed from the real thing, but by gar, if, like our brave flag bearing fellow on the AV Cllub, they're willing to expend their political energy engaging in pointless fighting with any similarly-, but not exactly the same-,minded people over any perceived ideological deviation, and to no discernable gain, then I say they're as much a part of the left as anyone has ever been.

Dorian Mode We share an internet connection: ban Flag-Bearer’s IP and it pings back to Jean-Luc de Lemur’s, too. Modell was pretty gracious and lifted my ban (both account and IP) after I explained the situation, so the system worked. Great Unwashed There’s probably some of that, but a lot of it was just shit-stirring (the guy’s sense of humor reminds me of the doctor Ricky Gervais played in Louie). Honestly, the guy’s moving out later this month and the who meatspace-AVC connection has me rattled enough (had to take a benzo to get to sleep and am only able to type quickly and coherently now; guy also works in the same building as me until he moves, which is how he found out about J-LL because I was commenting ovr lunch) to not want to deal with it. I never “fed“ the guy online, why should I give him the satisfaction IRL? Okay, enough of this, let’s go back to finding hilarious stuff that deserves recognition.

First of all: NOOOOOOOOOO! Second: Why? Why now? You've been around for some time. From what I've seen you sometimes like to argue, but never saw anything ban-worthy. Well maybe the odd comment but we all have some deletions under our belt, right guys? Guys? So your account can get banned simply because you use the same IP some asshole/troll does? My internal guidelines have just changed from: "People at work shouldn't know" to "People at work must never know". Anyway, Good Luck on getting your account back, we're all counting on you! EDIT: Disregard all that, I was not capable of going to page 9 of this thread before I posted. *facepalms in front of mirror*

Jean-Luc Lemur Ohhh, gotcha. Somehow I didn't read/didn't comprehend the "one of the people I share a wireless router with" part of your post. I blame alcohol/tiredness/Obama.

OK gang: let's get serious here.
Since Gary X has abandoned us and Dissolved, we'll have to do our own Commies this year. Flagging this now so we have plenty of time to sort this out.

If there is going to be one, can we all agree on me for "Most Downvotable Commentator"?

I will award the prize for Most Sexiest Sexy so that no-one else will have to pay the cost of shipping it out to New Zealand.

I don't think the polling function on here can get too complicated, so the actual thing will need to be hosted somewhere else. Anyone got any leads on websites that let you design your own online questionnaires?

If most downvoteable pertains to just regular commenters, and not the rape trolls, I can think of one corpulent gentleman who has been making a pretty good case for the title over the past few weeks. [edit] fuck, I meant to respond to Frohman, stupid mobile site.

OK gang: let's get serious here. Since Gary X has abandoned us and Dissolved, we'll have to do our own Commies this year. Flagging this now so we have plenty of time to sort this out. Of the categories I remember/care about: A) Nudeviking's gradual conversion to a full-time gimmick deserves a "Commenter of the Year" award. It takes commitment to comment (commentment?) in general to post as often as he had in the past, but his full-time conversion to Nudeador Viking III has been magnificent to watch, (especially when I originally pointed out the brilliance of the first comments -- what can I say? I'm a king-maker). I nominate Nudeviking/Nudeador Viking III for Commenter of the YearB) I nominate A.A. Down for the SIIIIIIIIIMS! award for most clueless reviewer. And I fuckin' dare you to name a better candidate. C) I nominate Todd Van Der Werff for Most Missed Writer. This is a close one for me, because I still think Steven Hyden pretty much made the Music section of the AV Club credible, and it has yet to recover. But Todd Van Der Werff understood his audience best, and the AV Club lacks without his presence, gentle humor, and willingness to tell the damned truth about television -- even when he was admittedly wrong. D) I nominate Nudeviking/Nudeador Viking III for Favorite Gimmick/Character Account. For obvious reasons. Through, if I recall correctly, we saw Adam Sandler return to his 'idiot' state after enjoying his brief stay of logical, coherent thought. Sure, I miss those days, but I will say I'm pretty sure he has that shit locked down on a time line, beginning from his own conception, to his current state, according to scale of when Adam Sandler's own timeline experienced his changes fluctuating between respectable and idiot. E) I recuse myself from the "Best Recurring Commenter Post" nominee, in the hopes that somebody nominates me. Not bloody likely. F) I nominate Beema for Most Downvotable Commenter of the Year. Not only has he abandoned us here, but he routinely posts some of the laziest trolling comments in between the brief moments where he seems to enjoy lucidity and say something worth reading. G) I Nominate Mrs. Langdon Alger for the No Longer Named After E. Buzz Miller Because It Weirds Him Out Kind Commenter of the Year. I honestly don't know anyone else kinder than MLA who hasn't been nominated for the award before.

Dear Mister Pops Freshenmeyer, I write you in my own hand to first and foremost thank you for your most kindhearted nomination for the Community Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence. To be somewhat forthright I had been suffering from a rather acute melancholy as of late as I had given up hope of the awards being held this year. While I do not fully expect to win such a prestigious award as the Commentator of the Year, winning the Grandest Gimmick in the Five Burroughs is entirely within the realm of possibility and I therefore commissioned a rather charming championship belt to be made. A sizable deposit was paid to the beltsmith which unfortunately is non-refundable, and I have long been of the belief that only a most duplicitous fellow would wear a championship belt that he himself had not earned through hard work and ingenuity. So again I thank you most sincerely for not only for your most generous nomination, but also for your dedication to ensure this grand and glorious tradition continues. With regards to this esteemed awards there was a category that you neglected to include that I think more than one of our fellows from this fair social club would be most eligible for. Of course I speak of the most prestidgous Overly Informative Commentator of the Year Award for which I would like to nominate the following gentlemen of sound body and mind: Lord idiotking of East Southington, Master @abradolphl and of course, the current reigning champion, HipsterDBag. Again, I thank you for your kind thoughts and pray to Odin above that the awards ceremony does not transpire during my upcoming tour of the European continent. I am, as always, Your Humble Servant, Nudeador Viking the Third

MrsLangdonAlger In the Broad City review he mentions he has a lot of psychological issues and doesn’t respond well to the medication he’s been given, and he’s said elsewhere that he doesn’t expect to live to thirty. I kind of suspect that a lot of the people I kind of dislike at the AVC are a bit…off…and while I wish FatMan wouldn’t take his issues out on us (especially since we’re overwhelmingly unqualified to deal with them) I’m also pretty uncomfortable with the most downvotable category because we have no idea of what’s going on the other side of the line with a lot of these guys. Between this, finding Sluggo’s confessions, and my experience with Flag-Bearer I feel like I’m becoming the AVC’s resident annoying commenter (I think “troll” should be reserved for people like the Sonia troll) expert.

After the Sonia troll struck one weekend I looked up Sluggo’s blog again, out of curiosity, and he posted a big two-part confessional about his time as Sluggo around June. It’s both way more pathetic (he claims to have put more effort into Sluggo than his then-just-ended marriage) and less stable (his confession ends with a fantasy of stalking a thinly-veiled O’Neal stand-in) than I anticipated. For his own sake I really hope it’s just a bit but again, he was on the AV Club (and tried to register here multiple times).

Fatman is the leader in 2015 with Gentle Herpes a distant second. 2014's most downvotable commenter is Ricky Coogin. His posts were always some combo of long winded, rambling, off topic, racist, or just plain dickish. He officially became my archnemesis when claimed that black people are ruining "the dignity of French names" such as Antoine with various misspellings.
Also with all due respect to our dear Nudeator, the Commenter and Gimmick Commenter of the Year is Reposted a7x Fan. No one nails it the way he does as consistently as he does and in the sheer volume that he does.

I don't share the hate for Gentle Herpes. Obviously, I can't defend everything he says, as some of it is pure trollery. Also he has some kind of mental issue where he says whatever comes to mind without appearing to subject it to any quality control. Also he never upvotes anyone, ever. The latter point is, I think, why Greyhound Zero has it in for Herp--he expressed frustration with it about half a year ago, and that frustration has turned into (what reads to me like) animosity. Still, despite all that, he can be pretty funny sometimes. He's just a hotdog internet commenter who plays by his own rules! If only someone could tame him!
I nominate Xanderpuss as commenter of the year because he makes me laugh more consistently than anyone.
For best gimmick account I'd go with Nude Viking, whose eloquent missives delight us all. I hope, for his sake, that he has a second account where he can write in the fashion of the current times.
Best recurring commenter post: I'd go with Idiot King's Savage Love rants/overshares, which serve as cautionary example to the masses.
Kind commenter: that's a tough one. I would also give that one to Nude Viking, who has yet to lose his famed composure since adopting his current voice (to my knowledge).
Best username/avatar: I get a kick out of the emo kid avatar for reposted a7x fan.
Best meme: hm, were there any new ones for 2014? I'm kind of sick of all of the old ones.
Best new commenter: Abradolph Lincler.

@billyboy Plus Herps is OGAVC, and one of the last links to that time too. Dr. Rumak My point wasn’t to defend FatMan but rather that a Most Downvotable category is just a bad idea in general, and I think it was almost omitted from last year’s awards (and way back when WolfmansRazor organized the Dawesies there wasn’t even any worst category). It’s mean-spirited in a way the rest of the awards aren’t.

So on what website does this funny Gentle Herpes post? As I said earlier in the thread, I think his suggestion for the sequel name to An Inconvenient Truth--"An Inconvenienter Truth"--is pretty damn funny, and there's a nice economy to it. He's hit and miss, to be sure, but I personally don't think they're all misses.

Perhaps if I knew what "God-tier" was. I wouldn't mourn not being nominated--no one's ever going to nominate me for anything, even though my mom says I'm the coolest commenter of all. There are many people who write consistently wonderful comments who aren't going to receive a nomination for anything. I'd list a bunch of my favorites, but I don't want people to be feel hurt for being left out. *pulls out acoustic guitar, sings "Michael Row the Boat Ashore"*

I'd like to offer what will likely be an unpopular opinion: I don't think the TI Forum should do the Commies. Or in another way, the TI Forum should have awards recognizing contributions to the TI Forum. The main reason being I wonder if the results would actually be an accurate reflection of the AVC. GaryX did TONS of work in not just designing the Commies but also in promoting them here, on Twitter, and at the AVC in Newswires and the (classic) TI. Would the same happen with a TI Forum sponsored Commies? Or would the results skew more towards the opinions of those who are more active here?
And the reality is both sites are two separate and very distinct entities, with a commenting base that doesn't quite overlap as much as it used to or as much as we'd like to believe. Some of the more prominent members of this site either comment very infrequently or have not commented at the AVC in some time. GaryX himself withdrew himself from the Commies b/c he felt he was no longer a regular part of the AVC community. Hell we refer to the AVC here as "the old country." In other words, I wouldn't feel comfortable voting about the commentary at the Dissolve and someone like Dikachu likely wouldn't feel comfortable voting on the commentary here.

a7x certainly gets most improved, s/he really put it into hight gear this year. i'm still biased toward nudeador for commenter of the year just for his effort. Also for the way his posts get people to respond in the style. god damn, that is funny. blanket hornpipe!
for best username/avatator i nominate Gnome de Guerre with their avatar of a garden gnome shooting a machine gun. i have no idea what the commenter's personality is though, s/he may be a dick. but that username/avatar synergy is top notch.
