a7x certainly gets most improved, s/he really put it into hight gear this year. i'm still biased toward nudeador for commenter of the year just for his effort. Also for the way his posts get people to respond in the style. god damn, that is funny. blanket hornpipe! for best username/avatator i nominate Gnome de Guerre with their avatar of a garden gnome shooting a machine gun. i have no idea what the commenter's personality is though, s/he may be a dick. but that username/avatar synergy is top notch. I am always impressed at the speed with which a7x comes up with spot on reposted comments. I like to think they have some massive database of quotes sorted by category and cross referenced by band/actor/movie name that they use, because it's either that or a sweatshop of laborers scouring Youtube for the perfect comment posted by an middle school "emo" to reply to an article about how racist the Oscar nominating committee is.

Well that made my morning! You're the tops, Pops! Though I'd nominate FatMan for Most Downvotable Commenter. After his comments regarding Broad City, you are probably right.

I'd like to offer what will likely be an unpopular opinion: I don't think the TI Forum should do the Commies. Or in another way, the TI Forum should have awards recognizing contributions to the TI Forum. The main reason being I wonder if the results would actually be an accurate reflection of the AVC. GaryX did TONS of work in not just designing the Commies but also in promoting them here, on Twitter, and at the AVC in Newswires and the (classic) TI. Would the same happen with a TI Forum sponsored Commies? Or would the results skew more towards the opinions of those who are more active here? And the reality is both sites are two separate and very distinct entities, with a commenting base that doesn't quite overlap as much as it used to or as much as we'd like to believe. Some of the more prominent members of this site either comment very infrequently or have not commented at the AVC in some time. GaryX himself withdrew himself from the Commies b/c he felt he was no longer a regular part of the AVC community. Hell we refer to the AVC here as "the old country." In other words, I wouldn't feel comfortable voting about the commentary at the Dissolve and someone like Dikachu likely wouldn't feel comfortable voting on the commentary here. No question, if it's an AVC award then it should be advertised on the AVC, so it'd need Modell's blessing (a newswire about it would be helpful) and opened up to everyone at the AVC for voting AND nominations (if nominations are even required--I think it'd be better if people could just vote for whoever they wanted, without having to nominate). I thought the intention here was to find a volunteer and discuss how we might vote if such a thing were to occur.

Well, obviously they need to happen.
WHY!!! WHY, GARYX? WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN US???
I'd plug Nudador (phrasing!) for COTY, because he's taken it well beyond the realm of gimmick. There's a difference between a gimmick and a *style*, and Nudador's all about the *style*. A7X, if I recall correctly, won gimmick last year, and damn if they haven't earned it all over again.
I'm also humbled to be nominated by anyone for oversharer/ranter of the year, though I'm still kind of shocked that I didn't get it last year, when I definitely did more actual over*sharing*. I mean, this year, I feel like I've mainly just been referring back to shit I revealed last year...

the TI Forum should have awards recognizing contributions to the TI Forum. Agreed. I actually agree that Commies and TI Awards should be - ahem - two things.

Fatman just got banned and replied on a new account by demanding reinstatement, emphasised by posting a jpeg of his arm with 'AVC' cut into it. So there's that...
(Happened in latest Cosby thread. I missed the incident, but several confirmations this is what went down.)

This is the most spectacular meltdown of a person that used to be pretty innocuous into a Scott Stapp level nutcase. If that's true he really needs to get off the Internet, and get help.

There was, If I remember correctly, AV club written in blood on the wall next to his arm, and AVC in blood on his arm. Then, in meme-style, a caption that read, THE AV CLUB, LAUGH AND LEARN or something like that. It was unsettling.

I hate to self-nominate, but this story came up organically in the Bieber thread... "True story: Back in the day, Tonks was in a lesbian feminist soft porn/arthouse movie, made by a friend of hers. One of the scenes involved Tonks having golden syrup poured over her, then licked off. The woman doing the scene with her had, however, neglected to warm the tin of syrup to room temperature first... so the shot dissolved into giggles as, slowly, clumps of syrup fell on Tonks's torso in a defiantly unsexy manner. My wife, ladies, gentlemen and others. (Tonks interjects: "It wasn't that porny, it was just a bit of tit-licking...")"

I suggest bookmarking this article in case you ever need to name names for a McCarthy-ist purge of Neo-Marxists from the AV Club. It reviews a book about robot sex, the title of which is basically a Bat-signal for everyone who'd read critical theory in grad school.

I like to keep track of vote-to-comment ratios for no reason, but it has to be weighted because many commenters have been around since before voting and before NuDisqus vote inflation. Gimmick accounts are a whole other division. Flyweight: < 100 comments Lightweight: 101-500 comments Welterweight: 501-1000 comments Middleweight: 1001-10000 comments Heavyweight: > 10000 comments Carade continues his stranglehold on the Welterweights. I'm not sure who's currently leading the biggest class Middleweight, but it may be Pear. I think today we have a new title-holder for that most fleeting class, Flyweight.

Despite an impressive 75:1 ratio, with 75% of their upvotes coming from one comment, they're still trailing gimmick Hall of Famers Rappin' Jake Sisko (81.8:1) and Leslie Knope Headlines (84.7:1), if we want to include them as flyweights. Though they lead Ben Wyatt Fanfiction's 65.4:1.

Yeah, gimmick accounts have to be a different division. Taco Bell Bell is leading the Lightweights at 45.6:1, and though I can't find it at the moment, Reposted A7X Fan is leading Welter or Middleweights with a bit smaller ratio than that.
ETA: A7X is a Middleweight at 23.9:1. Even as well-executed a gimmick as that can only reach so high over thousands of comments and often multiple posts per page.

Are you leading the heavyweights, ganews? You seem to be ahead of Bergo and Battlecar. *checks AVC* My god, Ganews--16:1! Your ratio is even higher than O'Neal's!
I seem to linger at 6:1, which I'm fine with. My doctor assures me that six is totally average for male posters and is nothing to be ashamed of!

Hey after almost a year of posting I made it into the Welterweights with a 8.7 ratio ! Woooo ! Yeah I don't post much.

I am but a humble Middleweight, but my ratio is near the top of the class, behind approximately Polar Bears and Cookie_Monster. For the Heavyweights, it's really more about the shear volume of comments. Or that was my impression when Dikachu told me he was aiming toward Scrawler heights.

There is already a spreadsheet floating around out there, it should not be difficult to update it with stats every once in a while.
