I actually really like the sidebar disqus window.
I don’t like getting in arguments with people who object to a comment I posted two weeks ago on The Atlantic, though.
ETA: Fuck, this is the second time today I’ve started a new page.

OK, I will say this: it's nice being able to see the comment replies to you in your notifications, vs. clicking over to the article to find it. Still, that's a small tradeup for getting notifications that "guest" upvoted a comment I made on a Breaking Bad episode two years ago.

I wonder why the hell it's a good thing for the sight, though. Wouldn't clicking back to the article to see the reply comment jack up pageviews for advertisers? I'm now less likely to click on that page to see the reply later when I'm at my home computer instead of work, for example.

Holy shit, I just middle-clicked on my notifications in the comments, and suddenly I've opened up the whole comment section for an article in a new window. Hopefully it'll be less laggy if I want to read through 1000 comments, or keep a thread open for new comments.

Newswires are coming so fast, I am literally able to read the article and click to the next newswire before comments load. I mean, Disqus is just that slow, but the newswires are coming fast.

I think the increased newswire speed is hurting the hangout character of the comments.

Disqus has now stopped working altogether on Firefox (Mint Linux). I can't log in and "Load More Comments" does nothing. Still works on Chrome/Chromium.

Oh Jesus, I think Disqus just took away notifications. I click on the little balloon now and it shows me recent posts from people I'm following. I had to click "feedback" in that window, which opened up a new tab where I could again click the little balloon to get the notifications window.

I'm starting to get notifications for myself as well as random people on other websites. Yesterday I was getting notifications from someone's posts on a car review website in London, and today I'm getting notifications from someone posting on a Nassau county news website.

Now there's a thread about it on the latest Newswire. And then I just clicked on notifications and it was back to the way it was!

If there's less than about two dozen comments disqus is fine for me, anything massive like TIs and it just shits the bed.

...and FuckDisqus is back to that old trick of notification links not taking you to the actual post, leaving you to scroll through the whole comments to find your replies.

I saw this in the OC last week, and thought it summed things up pretty good. "Discus is the box of raisins in the Halloween candy bag." -claudia-

Anyone using Firefox noticing that pictures aren't showing up on AVC pages lately?

A bunch of the comments I made last night now have a little yellow "Pending" button next to them. I can see the preview of the comment and it looks like the same thing I actually typed (so it doesn't look like it was edited) but I can't see the comments at all. They're not showing as "awaiting moderation", they're just...gone.
I really hope my account didn't get hacked.

Anyone using Firefox noticing that pictures aren't showing up on AVC pages lately? On the times (only at work, not on Firefox at home) when Disqus is stupidly slow to load it takes the same amount of time for the header images to load. I can read a Newswire twice before the picture loads sometime.

It's my understanding that we had a flagging troll, and that's why a ton of comments got deleted. So many upvotes lost!

Does anyone get annoyed when they get upvoted a ton by the same person? Like do you feel stalked? Because I think I may be upvoting some folks a lot, and I just want to apologize for cluttering up their notifications.

Being stalked is a sign of popularity, after all.

I find a mixture of uncalled for sarcasm, obscure allusions, and absurd, barely coherent digressions do much to prevent this from becoming a pressing problem.

Does anyone else's notification number never seem to go away? If it says I have two new notifications for example, I check them, close the window and come back an hour later, it'll still say I have two new notifications.

Or spread out over the course of a bunch of articles? Because if it is one article then the person just likes what you have to say on that subject. If not, then it could seem weird. But my own opinion, GIVE ME ALL THE UPVOTES!

Because I think I may be upvoting some folks a lot, and I just want to apologize for cluttering up their notifications. Not really. I usually feel 'oh, clearly this person has just come to this article and finds my half-dozen comments vaguely relevant.' Granted my notifications are sufficiently active I don't recall any time I was just being upvoted by one person, there's a quite a number of guests in particular who take the time.

I know I've probably upvoted everything you ever said on the Farscape reviews. And then I post one or two sentences of word vomit like "I ENJOY EPISODE YES." I'm terrible at internet.

Has the font size for comments decreased recently for anyone? Maybe I did something that shrank it. But then again the font for articles is the same size it always was.
