It seems that the Disqus Dashboard has gone back to the older style of notifications, and thanks to that I've been commenting a lot more on AVC for the last few days. Disqus admits to nothing and actually pretends that this is a new development they just came up with. I hadn't realized that people were upvoting comments I'd made on Game of Thrones episodes from two seasons ago. Is it possible that Disqus actually heard the outcry from their users telling them to eat shit?

It still vacillates between decent load times a millions of years from my work computer, usually the latter. My notification number keeps changing when there is nothing new: at first it was a baseline 90, then 10, now "9+".

Yep, actually getting worse. I just made some increasingly-rare comments, and the reply notification just said the baseline "+9" even though I had three unread.

Had a nasty moment earlier where I couldn't log in at all & got error message about 'activate your account', but it went away (thank fuck).

I quite like it that the dashboard now notifies you who upvoted you. I depend on upvotes for validation, so it's nice to see who's helping me get through life without going back to the original comment.

It's great for old threads, though even if it changed back for good I think for recent stuff I'd still go back and look at the original thread. That way, when some joyless pedant responds to my comment by correcting minor or imagined errors, I can check to see if anyone else at the a.v. club has rushed in to defend my questionable virtue and/or hygiene. It's never happened so far, as I'm too quick to lie on my back, expose my soft furry belly and offer these bullies payment of all my future lunch money. I've no doubt that if I waited long enough, though, someone would eventually read the thread and think to themselves, "Huh. Who the fuck is 'billy boy'"?

Trust me on this - nobody will ever defend your questionable hygiene.

I can't stand this "9+" for notifications instead of the actual number. I still have problems with comments not loading. And having a way to check all my upvotes and who's doing them will just feed my insecurities.
Edit: Scratch that on the upvotes! When i hover over them, I get a slash symbol, so I can't even access them.

Huh. Anyone else seen the new-look search page with the filter option? Look at those numbers, people. Just fucking look. At. Them. 18,314 Newswires. No wonder O'Neal drinks.

Well, now the obvious question: does it actually work? Shockingly, yes it does work. This is probably because Disqus don't run it.

What's this "sponsored comments" malarky I'm hearing about (but not seeing because I have adblock)?

Seen the sponsored posts you can't comment on (they really missed a trick there if the sponsors wanted pageclicks), but not sponsored comments. I would willingly offer my services to be the Official AV Club Sponsored Poster Of Comments OF CONSEQUENCE

This is a very good way to stop me from commenting at the Old Country. Dammit Disqus, you're the canceraids of discourse... of cock or whatever.

"Quality - Businesses don’t want to ruin your fun."
Oh yeah, because what everyone wants right in the middle of their discourse is an ad for Ragu. So basically this whole thing is spam, but Disqus is actually getting paid for allowing it.

When you're the biggest commenting system out there it's hard not to turn a profit through shady ad schemes which we (as users) spent a long time trying to get rid of. Disqus got greedy and expanded into advertising because fuck the reader, captive audiences want exploiting but there's so few other places to go for easily installed and decent commenting systems and the ads make sites a little bit of scrilla so it's a tough position for the users who just seem screwed coming and going.

And this is what the game of monopoly was trying to warn us about the whole time.

The really funny part for me was when the sponsored came up today and it read "This comment has been deleted." Methinks they need to re-think this system...

Fuck. This. Shit.
Downvote and flag every fucking one of these, people. We will not let this stand!
Either that or we roll over, join in, and earn ourselves a sweet new BMW.

Is disqus automatically switching to “newest” for everyone, or is it just me?

Is disqus automatically switching to “newest” for everyone, or is it just me? It's been doing that for me too, and not just on the Old Country.
