Marah is generally terrible, and specifically terrible at music. It flummoxes me that she's the music editor over there. I appreciate that it is not just me who is not a fan. Between being in charge of the music coverage in general (which has been abysmal for a while now), the terribleness of Hatesong, and "being responsible for the site's Great Job, Internet content," I confess I do not get the appeal of her work thus far.

I brought an old ruggedized laptop back from the dead by replacing a surface mount milspec fuse with a 5 amp car fuse. -And- I overhauled the brakes on my old truck. Pads and rotor in the front, shoes in back. I even replaced a broken brake line, including test drives, and all without running into anything.

I did mine a few years ago. I am not, at least, not at this time. I am considering AgilePM training later on, but given I would have to pay for it out of pocket, I'm not in any huge rush.

I have my first DIY brake job coming up on the horizon soon, on my Karmann Ghia, and I have that "dread of screwing up/excitement for doing it myself" emotional stew going on at the moment.

My best advice would be to try to have alternate transportation lined up for a few days when you work on it, just in case. The (older) vehicles haven't been very complicated as far as brakes go, but I think I put the first one back together two or three times before I got it right and took it down off the jack stands, and it took me a few days to do it. Learning curve. Oh, and as soon as you take the wheels and hubs off, take some pictures of the hardware setup on the brakes on each side (some stuff is the same, and some may be a mirrored layout). That has bailed me out a few times. It's really frustrating to have to crawl around and look at the wheel on the other side to remember what goes exactly where. Having a pic to reference is a real time saver. Good Luck, and remember, on the first test drive, hit the brakes in the first five feet, before you build up any speed, and point the car towards something soft!

My bug has 4 wheel drums so when it needs brakes I'm just gonna roll it into a ravine. *walks away dusting hands*

My previous bug had front discs and man, the driveability difference is huuuuge. If I end up keeping the one I have now I'll probably convert it to discs. It needs some front end work in general (it's got what they call the "super shimmy" from worn out parts) but I'm moving at the end of July, and I haven't had it long enough to be attached to it, and it's not that nice, so I dunno yet.

The front discs do make a world of difference. Between those, the "big" engine (a thunderous 57 horsepower, for those not up on their air-cooled Volkswagen history), and weighing about as much as a large shopping cart, the Ghia's a blast to drive. I take it you've got a Super Beetle, since you mention the shimmy. Definitely get that looked at - but the Supers are cool, I always dug 'em. This is my Ghia - it's a '73 coupe, in Zambezi Green:

NicoNicoRose that's super cool, man! Mine's a 72 super beetle in a bastardized version of Marina blue: Also, hell yeah to tow bars and flat towing!

Fellas, please, I'm having trouble concentrating on anything over here. Do you also experience a certain response to the scent of motor oil & sweat on a handsome man? Asking for a friend. I came here to say something, what was it... Ah! I finally made a dentist appointment and it's tomorrow morning! First time in a shamefully long time, but I'm pretty diligent with brushing and flossing so there shouldn't be any surprises. My TMJ, on the other hand...

I drove into Chicago on Saturday to meet up with a friend, and met her in Wicker Park, which is a pretty hip and busy neighborhood. Not only did I manage to find free parking on a side street, I parallel parked on the LEFT side (one-way street) like a boss.

I registered my wife for the 1-mile Green Lake Open Water Swim 2016, for which she won a 1st place medal in her age class. Yeah, yeah, I swam it too. Didn't get a medal *scuff-kicks floor*.

Though I've entered middle age and I've been neglecting my yoga practice for years, I can still kick up into a shoulder stand and push into plow with ease and control. Still can't do bridge or a decent headstand, though.

My recent talk in London, the one that had people weeping by the end. Starts mystical, gets political, ends with hope.

This weekend I changed the starter on my truck in the middle of a parking lot. I also loaded and trailered a horse without supervision (first time for me doing that) and drove 400 miles to boot.
