Only a little more than 2 weeks away! Who else is ready to stop paying attention to a disappointing football season and focus on hoops?

I usually wait until the Tournament to get excited about basketball. Not really my sport, but the bracket makes it fun

Only a little more than 2 weeks away! Who else is ready to stop paying attention to a disappointing football season and focus on hoops? As a Jayhawks fan, I'm always ready to ignore football and focus on basketball! I have some apprehensions about this season: signing Wiggins changed our outlook overnight but regardless, we lost a lot of talent from last year. But last season was supposed to be a rebuilding year as well and we ended up overachieving (albeit with a disappointing late collapse against Michigan), so we'll see. The conventional logic on the team to beat unfortunately seems to be Kentucky again. Easily the most raw talent in the nation, but you never quite know when you're relying at that many freshmen.

What's your take on the Big 12 this year? Obviously your guys and Okie State are the headliners. I'm not sure what to make of my Cyclones this year, but I have faith in Hoiberg to keep them competitive and get into the tourney. Baylor's always a wildcard. I have no idea about the rest of the league though, seems like it's going to be pretty top heavy.

I'm usually more of a neutral college hoops fan, but i'll probably be paying attention to Kentucky this year since these two twins from my school will be on Kentucky this year.

I think I'm morally obligated as an Iowa State fan to hate Mich. State after the 2000 tourney, but I will be very happy if you guys beat up on Iowa and Ohio State this year.

Go anyone but Kentucky!
And it's been said over and over, but what a ridiculous group of freshmen this year.

When you figure in Marcus Smart and some of the others who came back along with the freshmen, it's really ridiculous.

When someone like Aaron Gordon can't crack the top 10 you know this year's draft will be downright ridiculous. I really want the Kings to commit to tanking and scoring a high pick. I'm fine with Riggin' for Wiggins, Sorry for Jabari, Losiest for Julius, or Shart for Smart.

I assume guys like Parker, Randle, Wiggins, Smart, and Gordon are all givens. However, I don't think it's crazy to think someone who is getting slightly overlooked like some of the Kentucky freshman or Selden at KU would stick around to insure they're a lottery pick.

In the past five to ten years, we have had some fairly decent teams at Texas A&M, and I was kind of hoping that we could come into the SEC and do really well, since the SEC sucks at basketball (excluding Kentucky). But, man, were we bad last year. Didn't even make it to the tournament, and we're unranked again this year. Boo. I try to get into basketball, but it's hard when your team sucks. Oh well, we are undefeated so far this year! Whoop!

MARCUS SMART. That is all. He is really good at basketball. I might have to scalp tickets when OSU comes up to Hilton at the end of the year.

Yeah, I did actually remember Florida before typing the post, but then they mysteriously did not get included in the actual post. Brain fart!

Did anyone else watch the Duke game last night? East Carolina really had a chance to win until about the last minute and a half.
Also, Jabari Parker is really fun to watch, which is annoying because Duke.

Fuck Kentucky. I wish the NCAA had done the right thing in 1988 and given them the death penalty like they considered doing, just so I wouldn't have to hear Kentucky fans brag about how great their all-but-professional team is.

I think my Cyclones took about 3 years off my life last night. Basketball isn't supposed to be that nerve-wracking in November.

That grueling strength of schedule finally looks to be paying off for Kansas. A tough little stretch in early December, but the losses aren't looking so bad in retrospect and a 5-0 start in conference play gives us solid footing in a surprisingly high caliber Big 12.

Of course KU would finally click right when league play starts. It would be more infuriating if it didn't feel so inevitable. I dont know whats what's happened to Iowa State. A damn good tourney seed is still in play assuming they turn things around starting tomorrow, but you can't help but feel disappointed when 2 weeks ago you thought you'd be competing for a conference title.

My alma mater's team is almost certainly out of contention. It's their first year in a new league and two of their major players were arrested before the season opener on rape charges. But on the bright side, one of the non-rapists is set to break the NCAA record for three-pointers this weekend.

Man, I'm really kicking myself for missing that Duke-Syracuse OT game last night, but happy to have that as a newly emergent ACC high-stakes rivalry. On the negative side of conference realignment (which is most of conference realignment): man, screw the Big East for snatching up the Bluejays and denying us 2-3 Wichita State-Creighton match-ups.
Closer to home, it was a hell of a bummer watching KU's lackadaisical performance against Texas yesterday. We're still in pole position, but not much separation now - just one game ahead of UT for the Big 12 lead. This is a tough, tough conference (to my pleasant surprise, perhaps the best in the country), and a 7-0 start is far better than I had anticipated, but still shitty to see such a lackluster effort after we had really been heating up.

We've still got a home game against Texas and both games against the Cowboys, so we're in a position to do some damage. Hopefully we end our ridiculous 18 year losing streak in Stillwater tonight.

Man, if you haven't watched Doug McDermott this year, you're missing something. Very rapidly approaching critical mass for consensus POTY.
