The South Regional is sending the 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th seeds to the Sweet 16. That's impressive both for how much the top seeds flopped in that region, and for the consecutive odd number thing.

Gah, this is such a weird Sweet 16. I ended up completing two brackets, but I have nothing like this on either of them. This may be my biggest bust year in recent memory.

This is the biggest bust year for everyone. I mean, everyone knew that, at some point, a 16 would beat a 1, but no one in their right mind would actually fill out a bracket with that thing happening (well, I did, but I deliberately picked all the lower seeds to win every game. Congrats on your national championship, Texas Southern!). And I'm willing to bet that not one person had that bizarre combo of teams coming out of the Southern Region. Meanwhile, the East has 1, 2, 3, and 5 still alive.

I'm glad Michigan is still in this thing so that I can continue to laugh at the German shaved Wookiee they have at power forward. I couldn't even finish typing this post before he drew a foul on a layup and started doing a Frankenstein walk.

I always find it amusing that the rules require the winner of the region with the overall #1 seed to meet the region with the overall #4 seed in the national semifinals, because in reality, trying to bracket like that never works out. In one semifinal game will be two #1 seeds. In the other will be #3 vs. #11.
Anyway, my revised prediction--Villanova over Michigan.

Went into the city to meet friends for the game, had to wait an hour just to get into the bar, and Loyola lost. They were damn good for 3/4 of the game, but only 3/4.

I have no idea. They really looked like shit the end of the season, but looked completely different in KC and won the conference tournament. If they get past the first weekend, they’d be playing in the same arena and ISU fans would be guaranteed to show out and a substantial run wouldn’t be crazy. But if they revert back to two weeks ago, they could lose on Friday.

I did not watch one bit of college basketball outside of Zion destroying his shoe, can I repeat last years bracket win? Probably not.

If folks want another chance to take pride or shame in their predictive abilities, I made a group for the Women's Tournament as well. Group name is " AV Club Pick 'Em", password is "avclub_2019".

I filled out a bracket for work. It has to go better than last year, right?

I'm honestly shocked I did that well for day 1, so of course I'm suspecting day 2 to be a total disaster.

I'm second place in a two-man contest, sad! If it makes you feel better, I was last (or next to last, meaning last of those who actually filled out a bracket) in the men's challenge last I checked. Winning a two- man person contest is all I have.

The nice thing about picking Duke to win is that you aren't mad when they lose.

The tourney was so very, very chalky right up until the moment it wasn't.
Two of my Final Four picks, including my predicted champion, are still alive. That's not bad for me.
We'll just ignore the fact that I predicted one of the other Final Four teams would go out in the first round, and the other would go out in the second.

I managed to pick all four of the Final Four of the women's bracket, and absolutely zero in the men's bracket. Guess I learned where I should put my money next year.

It's kind of mind-boggling that Duke, of all fucking schools, couldn't find one dopey looking white kid with a good 3-pt shot to plant out on the wings and wait for Zion to pass out of double teams.

Gonzaga has "Zags" on the front of the jersey. Lame.

Gonzaga has "Zags" on the front of the jersey. Lame. Ganews, what is your opinion of the fact that in the NHL the Toronto Maple Leafs have an advertisement for the concept of milk that just consists of the word “Milk” written in fairly small text just below one shoulder? For context, there are no other advertisements on their jerseys, and I don’t think any other NHL teams have ads on their jerseys.

I joined the ISU women's basketball pep band in 2006 (which was super lucky, basically the second golden era of that team) and they've pretty consistently been 'competitive, but can't get over the hump' in those 17 years. But this year might be the biggest all-time 'what if' year because Coach Fennelly FINALLY addressed his teams' biggest perpetual flaw (a solid traditional post that can defend, rebound, and be fed on offense if outside shots are failing) with a gift of a transfer falling in his lap and getting added to a team that already had good guards and the school's all-time leading scorer. And then, of course, she gets hurt right before conference play starts. And now almost all their core is graduating or transferring and they'll have to start over again from scratch
