Considering how great March Madness is, I don't understand how college football resists a similar playoff. We could have been pissing away all of our December work productivity all these years.

College football playoff will be much more boring than basketball playoffs. The sport just doesn't allow the kinds of upsets you see in basketball.

Feeling bad about picking Ohio State in the first, but feeling way better than the three people in my non-AVC pool that picked them as champions.

Your job is productive in December? I work at in education, so my job only goes for about ten days in December. I'd agree that the smaller number of teams make the magnitude of football upsets feel smaller, but if #25 beats #10 (which seems about analogous of Dayton over Ohio State), I'd bet it would be thrilling. Woo hoo, March Madness! Now I just need my students to take their stupid midterm. Then I can go back home and watch a ton of (DVR'd) basketball.

Comment/Avatar synergy. But it's even funnier to visualize you shouting with your bow tie and gigline.

Dayton did us all a favor. Now we can watch a tournament free of nauseating Aaron Craft worship.

And Craft got a tech for an intentional foul. It was a gentle hug, but it was fairly late in the 2nd half.

Dayton gave lie immediately to any partiality for bracket picks: it doesn't matter how much I believed OSU would win or how many tourney pools I picked them to advance. When push comes to shove, when there's an upset like that on the line, I will ALWAYS be rooting for a Dayton over an OSU.

My exception was that I hate all things North Dakota State, so I was really hoping Oklahoma would crush them.

I was out at a bar with a bunch of Longhorn fans last night watching the UT/AZ State game. I am an Aggie, and our team sucks and didn't even make the tourney this year, but the wife went to UT, so I got dragged along. Anyway, I went outside for a bit because I don't care, but right when I walked back in, I looked up at the screen and saw UT's last minute basket to win the game. It was pretty great, even though t.u. sucks!
I have a friend who went to undergrad at Michigan and then got an MBA at UT, so he's going to have a fun Saturday. Even though he hates rooting against the Horns, his heart lies with the Wolverines.

I like basketball and think of the tournament as a time for all of these great teams to play on a national stage.
But those Baylor uniforms are making me hate them and their stupid success.

Well then we can all be happy with Mercer (14) over Duke (3), because nobody here picked Mercer (I compared screenshots of the leaderboard). LEK4 gets a happiness exemption for picking Duke to win the tournament.

Duke losing in the first round is the next best thing to dickpunching Christian Laetner.

Duke losing in the first round is the next best thing to dickpunching Christian Laetner. I just came in here to post this same sentiment. If the #1 thing to wish for, NCAA tournament-wise, is for your team to win the whole damn thing, #1A is clearly to have Duke go out in the first round.

As someone who picked Duke in the Final Four, pretty relieved it didn't collapse everything too much for me.
In my main pool (non-AVC), I just need Virginia to beat Michigan State and I'm pretty much golden.

It makes me so happy to see Duke lose in the first round. I know folks around here are still grumbling about that ASU/UT game. But, I have no particular allegiance to ASU other than living in Phoenix. And it was a good game, so I'm not too upset. How upset could anyone be? Duke lost! In the first round! Wooo! It's a great tournament already.

Looks like no one in all of ESPN has a perfect bracket anymore. Only one person on all of Yahoo Fantasy.

Condolences Superb Owl π¦: Iowa State looked fantastic but talk about a Pyrrhic victory. Losing Niang is pretty devastating. If they play the way they did in the first round they may not miss him, but regardless, that's a huge piece of their offense they'll need to make up for. KU looked pretty weak - way too many turnovers and open three point defensive looks - but I'll take it, especially considering how shaky a lot of top seeds have been. How crazy is it after all the talk of strength of schedule that Wichita State was the ONLY #1 seed that actually looked like a #1 seed?

I still think it's possible they could finally break through to the Sweet 16 without him, but I've pretty much given up on getting further than that. Special seasons don't happen that often in Ames, and this is a pretty shitty way for this one to end.

Stanford basketball team on the floor: telegenic, fun to watch. Stanford bench: Ugh, enough with the damned gang signs. Stanford band: Gaah, it's everything cringeworthy about college!

Woooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you expressing excitement because State won a dramatic game last night, or just making an owl noise? Or both? I guess it could be both. That was a hell of an exciting game. I texted a fellow fan after it ended, saying "I'm not sure I can follow this team any more, it will lead to a medical condition".

And I agree, they need to start putting some sort of medical advisory on screen before Iowa State's games. Everything now is just icing on the cake though, so I'm going to try my best to relax and enjoy it on Friday. I actually still think UConn is a decent match-up for us, even playing in their backyard.
